We wouldn't be talking about it like this no, but we would still be calling it a great block. I don't care if it was Mutumbo blocking Spud Webb, when a guy makes the turn like that to slam it with bad intentions and you punch it back the other way, great block. Like PP said, it was at least entertaining in that Splitter was going HAM on that attempt and usually the offensive guy is always going to win in that situation.

 

Far from a "routine" block anyway. In fact, about as far as you could possibly get from routine in reference to blocks.

As its pretty well known I've been a Lebron supporter for a long time. I've defended him through everything since my time on BGP's. One thing I have seen more than any athlete alive is Lebron gets more unwarranted hate than any athlete I have ever saw. Yeah the Decision was a stupid idea, but you can blame the hype machine that is ESPN as well. So I would argue for everything that gets blown out of proportion in regards to Lebron, all the baseless hate far surpasses it. People just love to hate on him, so much that it blinds them from the privilege of getting to watch him play basketball in his prime. People want him to fail, they want him to lose, he will never do good in some peoples eyes. If you deny the fact he is the best basketball player on planet earth right now and that he is going down as one of the all time greats, your dealing with some serious hate.

Routine block to me would be somebody coming off weak side help and blocking a shot the offensive guy didn't even know was going to get blocked. The ones where it looks like an easy lay up but some guy comes from no where on the rotation and picks up the block. Or even better, when somebody is in the post and goes straight up for the bucket but gets stuffed by his defender. Those are pretty well routine blocks to me. What happened in game 2 was far from a routine block, it's not referred to as the reverse poster for nothing. Anytime the offensive player has a clear advantage but still gets blocked it is not routine, however if the defensive player has the advantage over the offensive player then it is a routine block.

Or if your wide open and think you have an easy layup and somebody comes from behind or from your blind side to get the swat with the offensive player never seeing the defender.

Most people without Lebron's physical gifts would not have been able to make that play flat footed while the offensive player had all the momentum. Most of the time that would at least be a foul scenario.

LeBron has a 13" higher vertical than Splitter... Flat footed or not, he should block him, with ANY kind of warning. I just don't see the hype.
