Moss only pitched the first, but it didn't matter, both were outstanding. Here are pitching lines:

Moss: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

Graham: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K

Nice K/inning ratio for Moss.

I won't put words into Joe's mouth but my guess is you play the odds. Why pitch your ace in what is almost a non-winnable game when you have another game you need to win afterwards? He's looking past that one game. Give her a rest and let her be fresh for the winnable game vs the team that you're simply not going to beat.

I think she caught that game so not a lot of rest.

I understand his thinking but if it went south early you could get Smith out and bring Jones in. I can't speak for the NDA kids but I am sure they did not have the same thought process going in with Jones vs Smith. Jones is a very capable pitcher but she's not Haylee at this point in her career. I don't think NDA could beat Greenwood no matter how they played it but its the state tourney don't you play your best.

On a much smaller scale, HC played NDA 3 times this season and both were fairley close games even though the score looked lopsided in one of those it was still a close game. The 3rd game the coach pitched our number 2 against them, we had no shot and the girls knew it. It effected them in everyway, on the mound and at the plate and in the field...we were beat before the first pitch was thrown.

Who does Moss play with in the Summer?

Jones pitched, Greenwood is going to be hard to beat either way.

No doubt, I agree. Yesterday I heard on one of the radio stations that Greenwood is rated #3 in the Country. Is that correct? If so, Wow, that is awesome.

This just goes to show you how much I know about the state softball tournament...... I thought it was one and out..... That is why I asked why Jones pitched if she is the #2 pitcher for NDA. Clyde your explaination makes sense to me. My thought was, if you are going to go out, go out with your #1 on the mound. Thanks for getting me back on the straight and narrow.

Sounds like the only way NDA sees this team again would be in the finals. Let's all pull for a rematch.

Nasty!!! Just like these numbers from Richards Tourney preview:

The team’s top pitcher, Elizabeth Moss, is 27-0 with an 0.32 ERA and No. 2 pitcher Brittany Graham is 11-0 with 0.53 ERA. Boys and girls, that's getting it done!!! :scared:

Greenwood has given up about 20 runs in 40 games.
And 24 shut outs

Greenwood must be something to see. Wonder if they travel for competition.
