May 25, 201313 yr LOL! Funny! About the the best thing to do besides just hanging up! Ask them questions, ask for their numbers, ask any questions about them. Then tell them you will call them back, but towards the end say that the entire call is being recorded. If you think the call is within the US telling them that the recorded call will be handed over to the KY Attorney General who's office goes after these scams hard! I also tell them that they will be be held personally responsible in court as well (scares some of them). If the call isn't from the U.S. then the Attorney General tactic won't work, but mentioning the FBI or Interpol may work. But if you make the call about them and asking them the questions while not responding to theirs, they hang up. The reason they do this junk is IT WORKS! Funny as I know a few people from Ethiopia and they say that most African's can't stand Nigerians, that they all are thieves. Most scams come from there, again, they keel it up for a reason. I don't get to many calls like this but I do record all of them. Just yesterday I got a call about donating to the FOP. I do donate to them and other organizations but I do not do it over the phone! First I told the guy the person he was looking for couldn't come to the phone, and he started saying he was from the FOP and all this other stuff, I asked him his name and where he was calling from. After about 2 minutes I told him that we donate directly to the FOP locally, and I told him I was recorded the call and not to call back. Instead of saying anything, a thank you, have a good day, or sorry to bother you, he just hung up. I don't think the real FOP would like people calling for them to just hang up. These people calling do not give the organization even near 100% of the donations, if any at all! If you get a call and it reminds you of a good organization, don't give them the money over the phone or from a mailer. Hang up, and get in touch with the organization yourself to make sure the money is going to where you think it is. I honestly think the best solution is to stop answering their calls in hopes that they will think its a bad number. Answering/recording/threatening to report them won't do much if anything IMO.

May 25, 201313 yr I honestly think the best solution is to stop answering their calls in hopes that they will think its a bad number. Answering/recording/threatening to report them won't do much if anything IMO.Most people do care if it's being recorded, and for the most part they have no idea who they are calling, you could be Obama or Mitch, they don't know and they don't want the recording. They don't care if they have the wrong number, they just wants to call any numbers and if anyone to pick up. The thing is, as stated before, they keep up this garbafe for one reason, it works! People don't think and send them money or do what they tell them to do. I about beat my head into a wall trying to explain to a friend about a scam, he wasn't getting it. Several years ago he joined AOL, they was telling me how they said that they would never call or email you for his password, but that he is getting emails from AOL asking him for his password. I told him it was not AOL, but he said that they said they were AOL and it seemed like they were from AOL. I looked at the link and it was not from AOL. an email from yahoo.com/aolcustomerservice123, or blahblahblah.com/aol, or whatever is not AOL. I know it took me a few drinks to explain it, I still don't think he got it. Again, if people think first, these people won't make any money, and stop.
