You mean besides fundraise, conduct summer camps for kids, cuts the grass, cleans the field, works with these kids in the gym and outside nearly year-round taking time away from his family, handles all state-wide paperwork related to the team, organizes overnight trips, schedules games (which has included some very tough out of town teams in the state), orders uniforms, deals with parents and administrative issues, and oh yeah, by the way, one of the most knowledgeable baseball guys in the region. Just because he is not 'on the field' during the game does not mean he is not involved. Delegation is a skill a lot of people don't have.

 

Sometimes people only show up at games and think that's all that goes into coaching a team. Wayne Huff has lost more sleep worrying about doing what's right for his team than you can possibly fathom. You may not agree with everything he does, but his head and heart are in the right place. I've been around baseball enough to know that if more parents, students, and friends would cheer positively for their own teams and conduct themselves with class towards their own team, opposition, and umpires, the whole baseball experience would take a giant leap forward.

Whoa ... that is a big upset. Who pitched for Boone? That is only the second time all season that Ryle has scored less than 3 runs in a game. Ryle has scored less than 5 runs only 5 times this year. Holding the Raiders to one run is a heck of a job on the mound.

 

On another note, the region is totally up for grabs now. The losers side is arguably as strong as the winners side:

Spin it around and the same argument could be made for the losers or in this case the runnersup bracket. LOL

 

Should be a great Region tourney imo and you are right this Region is wide open imo.

 

I do like to go with the hottest team(s) in Region right now though to be there in the end. LOL

Scoreboard showed game as 3-1. Less than ideal conditions to play in as a shower came through and dropped the temperature about 15 degrees. Field became tacky, but playable. Pitchers were obviously affected by it, but it was bad for both teams. I believe each team had 4 hits, depending on scorekeeper and several close calls. Strike zone started very tight, then loosened, then tightened again. Must have been fair, because both teams and coaches were complaining. Boone made some nice plays on defense - Brenden Stanley threw out a runner at home on a single by Ryle, Alex McGarr in center dove for a ball that looked destined for the gap. Trey Martin caught a shot about eye-ball high at 3B. Pitcher Nolan Klein snagged a ball at his feet off a rocket and threw the runner out easily. Austin Johnson in RF and Tyler Schultz at 2B collided on a ball in short right that fell in for a hit. Schultz took the brunt of the hit and has a potential arm injury, but stayed in the game - tough kid...

 

 

While I agree the strike zone expansion/contraction seemed to be called fairly against both teams it was apparently difficult on the players. As a batter the kids weren't sure what to swing at as balls were called strikes and strikes were called balls. The pitchers seemed less than satisfied as well, as if the mound condition, due to the rain, weren't enough to deal with. If I were pitching it would have been difficult for me not to walk to the plate and ask for a description of the strike zone as it magically moved up, down, in and out. Kudos to the Conner crew for the attempts to keep the mound at least playable enough and prevent the pitchers from doing the splits as they strode toward the plate.

Wow guy wins district in a down year/rebuilding year and he gets drilled 11 posts in.

I might think that with the trouble the pitchers were having with holding on to a wet ball and pitching from a slippery mound, might have been a part of Blue making the zone a little bigger. Just a thought! He didn't seem to favor one team over the other and remember I had no dog in this game!

Unfortunately, The ump's strike zone got real small in the last inning. Both teams had to throw more pitches than needed. I think the darkest might have contributed to the Blue's problems in the last inning, but he was very inconsistent the whole game. Like from another post, batters were not sure what was a strike or a ball. Last night, we had pitches down the middle for balls and near in the dirt and outside as strikes.

Boone's record isn't that impressive record wise. However, if you look at their tough schedule, IMO it prepared them for the end of the year.
