Rambo, I agree that this is not for everyone. But, your comments are quite broad. I have to think that some could benefit from this option. Say a kid is already 18, mature, and has great grades. I think there are some that could benefit from this option.

NOW THAT IS BROAD. If they college coach guarantees imediate playing time and the kid is mature academically and physcially, as I have mentioned about John David Booty, then yes. If immediate playing time is NOT guaranteed, just like a college coach can't guarantee, and the kid is not physcially or academically ready, then NO.

Did not help them. They did not flunk out of school. Just didn't help them. They were not ready physcially and academically. Were told not to by their coach and look what it did from the athletic side. They ended up red shirting anyway, so if the college coach was going to do that anyway why didn't he explain that to the parents of the kid. That's why the high school coach said "not a good idea." It didn't work the high school coach was right. The college coach was wrong.

 

What else do you want explained. You have 0 expertise in this. That's why I asked how many from your school has done this. O response. Go back to look up stuff on the internet in your underwear.

 

Well many have done it from my high school and I have coached personally 4 four that have done it successfully, add in playing with two in my own highschool. So they got red shirted, and that means it did not work............. Really good criteria man. I don't get why you are attacking all of us for questioning the validity of your opinion, but it's probably not the best way to make your point. None of us are saying this is for everyone, and I'm sure it's not. But to think this option won't work for anyone because you know of two students that it didn't work for is very closed minded.

You can have your opinion, that's what we want. But, if you would give us examples, or opinions, on why it didn't work for those players it would be a more beneficial conversation. Just saying, "it doesn't work" doesn't help anyone to understand why it doesn't work.

I don't want the kids mentioned by name. Just for example: was the kid too immature for college that early? Where they not physically mature? Were they college ready academically? Did they have a good or bad support system at home? Was it a bad college choice? Things like that. In other words, why did it fail for them.

 

I'm not completely sold on this being a good idea for students, just trying to gather information from both sides.

Covington Latin high school's graduating class is almost always 16 year old kids because they skip two grades based on their accelerated course work. I do not think those kids are having trouble handling college.

WOW! How many of those kids are playing football? and they have that many going to Div1 schools and playing football? They should beat Highlands every year. With that many Div.1 players they should have NO PROBLEMS winning state titles.

What a Oscar Meyers Baloney of statement you have no business even having posting rights with this crap. Let me tell you about the Covington Latin kids that actual do compete in sports, you know the varsity team of 15 and 16 year olds in basketball and such. Those kids bust there hump in the classroom, then have to bust it 3 times as hard to even try to compete in some cases with other teams. You wont hear one of those kids complain about it either. Yes Cov Latin doesnt have football, but they do compete in many other sports very well. Those kids go to college at 16 or 17 and most have no issues once they get there.

USUALLY when kids leave for ATHLETIC reasons, which is what the thread is ABOUT! THERE is a some difficulty and issues for student/athletes to leave high school early.

 

 

DO the kids at Covington Latin High School kids that leave early for college play college sports? THAT's ALL I WANT TO KNOW!

I have seen kids fail from other schools NOT YOURS! at leaving school early. OK?
