May 6, 201313 yr Author Have you seen the Reds farm system, its crap, they have maybe 6-8 guys that might make it to the show that's it. You think they can afford to resign all these "quality" players and keep them. How is that doing for the Yankees and Angels with all those big contracts. Which guys? Latos is under control 3 more seasons, same for Homer, Cueto for 2, Bruce and Phillips for another 3-4, Frazier & Cozart for at least another 3-4, Hamilton hasn't even started his clock yet....
May 6, 201313 yr Well for the Yankees signing their young talent like Rivera, Jeter, Posada, Williams, Cano and Pettitte lead to 5 World Series in 14 years. So there's that. Do the Reds have 200+million to spend?

Latos is under control 3 more seasons, same for Homer, Cueto for 2, Bruce and Phillips for another 3-4, Frazier & Cozart for at least another 3-4, Hamilton hasn't even started his clock yet.... So in say 4 years the Reds will have resigned every one of them? They can't afford that.
May 6, 201313 yr Do the Reds have 200+million to spend? You asked how it worked out, I simply answered.
May 6, 201313 yr So in say 4 years the Reds will have resigned every one of them? They can't afford that. And if they make the playoffs the next 4 seasons with a World Series win? Don't you think most fans would take that--even if it meant that it would take them a couple of years to rebuild afterwards?
May 6, 201313 yr Author So in say 4 years the Reds will have resigned every one of them? They can't afford that. Why the hell are you worried about 4 years from now? Guess they should never try to win, just keep building for the future, right? What you're saying is just illogical.
May 6, 201313 yr Why the hell are you worried about 4 years from now? Guess they should never try to win, just keep building for the future, right? What you're saying is just illogical. So you would rather have 1 WS win and 20 years in the toilet?
May 6, 201313 yr Author So you would rather have 1 WS win and 20 years in the toilet? Where are you coming up with this 20 years in the toilet garbage? Some of the guys will end up elsewhere, some will be resigned. 4 years down the road the next crop of young guys will be ready for this level. Votto's contract is not a hinderance in any way, shape, or form on the future of the organization. It's been discussed quite a bit on here, a large chunk of his money will be offset by the increased revenue that they'll be getting from the new TV deal. Just so we're clear, you'd rather the team be average every year, than have a real shot at winning a World Series?

May 6, 201313 yr ^What does that have to do with Votto? What is Votto doing for this team besides sucking millions from it for poor performance.
May 6, 201313 yr Hired bad GMs. Agreed, and bad managers, signed players to big contracts because they were hometown guys, turned out well for them. This group is doing the same, will get the same result.
