Licking Heights 65 Harvest Prep 0 (Ohio Game)

There are so many ways you can get out. I witnessed Bob M. at Beechwood get "outs" to get an opposing player, whom he thought the other team was ruining his arm, out of an inning.

So where upset with a team that had 20+ guys on base due to walks and hit batters? What was the team supposed to do? Play the game, theres a mercy rule isnt their? You dont have to steal bases, do hit n runs and such, but play the game.

About 8 years ago when I was in high school, we were up by 20+ runs going into the 3rd inning. Granted after about a 15-run lead, our coach said to only advance one base at a time. However at this point our coach said that we were NOT allowed to walk. Meaning even if it was a 3-0 count, we had to swing. The only way we would be allowed to get one base was to get a hit of some sort. I would have personally liked them to do that at that point because that game appeared to be WELL out of hand.

Im fine with that, that doesnt solve the 10+ hit batsmen, but yes thats fair, I just think that teams should do what they normally do in situations like this and play the game.

The mercy rule in Ohio is 10 runs after the 5th inning. They don't do the 20 after 3, 15 after 4 deal like many leagues do.

The HC of Licking Heights needs to be flogged in town square. Shameful coach, now the rest of the nations baseball enthusiasts know your crime. At all costs after 20+ run deficit this clown should have enforced a jog only rule, a walk only rule if need be, even a bunt to the pitcher or run gassers policy.

Congrats coach you have earned the HS Baseball HC horses butt of the year nomination!

In one of the games I mentioned above, I should have said that after the 3rd inning the coaches had mutually agreed to end the game as it was clear it was one sided and this wasn't helping either team anymore. I'm wondering if there as a mutual agreement after this one as well to end after the 3rd inning.

I don't think any player should be asked to make outs intentionally. I do like the no walk stratagy. Can you decline a base on a hit batter as well? I just don't think it is a kid's job to give outs to the defense. If the coaches agree to stop the game, then so be it.

Deadspin had a report on this game and said they ended the game because it started getting too dark.

Well fortunate for them then. Still the score of this game is crazy. As for all the hit batsmen that was discussed earlier, could they not just get out of the way? I know some coaches teach the players to just stand there if the ball is thrown at you but in this case you should start telling them to avoid it and also do not walk regardless of where the ball is pitched.

I think more could have been done to curb a score like this but then whats done is done.
