Coach Feldhaus Post Game Comments Question

I stumbled upon this great post game interview with Coach Feldhaus. One of his comments kind of struck me as "out of place", Coach said "We don't except transfers, all of our players grew up in Richmond".

Is this a true statement? I have heard from multiple folks that both Bosley and Taylor are both in fact transfers?

Not trying to question the coach's comments just trying to get to the truth of the matter.

I heard that Bosley came in before or after his soph year? And I heard this from a very reliable Mad Central dude.

Were they enticed to come here to play basketball, or did their families move here and they went out for the basketball team ? Big difference. If I remember correctly Quan didn't even begin to get minutes until the middle of his 2nd season. Neither were starters on the team.

I'm not knocking it either. If your parent or parents move within the boundaries, I'm all for it.

From another thread on this board, Here are the situations in which KHSAA Player transfer rules apply:

Players with varsity experience at one school moving to another. Players just entering high school or even who spent their freshman year at one school and moved to another have every right under the rules to change schools as long as they have no varsity experience.

My question was we're they all raised in Richmond? These are the words of the coach. I understand that probably no team in the state is 100% homegrown kids, but point blank a transfer, no matter how good or bad, is still a transfer.

I read somewhere that Bosley transferred in his Sophomore year from Indiana. One of The Tribe should be able to answer our question.

One of the Tribe , answer the question are the kids "homegrown" as Coach Feldhaus stated?

I heard he moved here his soph year also. For all I know he is from Ky moved to Indiana, then moved back. I do know that on Senior night, he we escorted a large family including parents, sister, Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents. Doubt they drove in from Indiana on a Tues. night for that. As for the coach's interview, had just won a state title and was speaking to thousands and media and was probably not reading a script. He could have messed up. If your roster of about 20 kids has one who moved from another state, I'd say homegrown kids is a pretty accurate statement the way things work these days. Why don't you congratulate them on there hard work and move on. Now I answered your question, now you answer mine. What school do you support ? Are any of your schools kids from another area ? I'm guessing it's one who the Indians beat and now you're trying to get something started that isn't there. Congrats to the Indians. Job well done !

I was at the Finals supporting MCHS. My "hometown" team has transfers, but our coach doesn't go around promoting them as raised locally either! If you look above at a previous comment I stated that I'd doubt any team in the state is 100% homegrown. Congrats on Title and thanks for answering my question!

Here is a part of an article from the 2009 Madison Middle state tournament team. Where did Quan Taylor play 8th grade?

Madison 49 South Laurel 40 (Championship)

Madison took an 18-11 first quarter lead behind three three point bombs by Daniel Parke on their way to a 49-40 victory over South Laurel. Dominique Hawkins and Daniel Parke led the victors with 22 and 11 points respectively. George Walker added 14 points. Dominique Hawkins recorded seven points and dished out 11 assists. Matt Slavey, Austin Schaser, and Trent Abner led a balanced South Laurel attack with seven, six, and six points respectively.

Madison 18 12 8 11 49

South Laurel 11 7 11 11 40

Madison (49) - Parke 11, Walker 4, Stanford 4, Hammons 6, Hawkins 22, Cottongin 2.

South Laurel (40) - Sanders 3, Schaser 6, Slavey 7, Sears 3, Rader 3, Abner 6, Byrd 2, Jones 6, Grubb 4.

Congratulations to Madison for capturing the championship and to Dominique Hawkins for capturing the MVP trophy. There were excellent teams and players on display this weekend. Although Hawkins was very capable of dominating play as he averaged 19.0 ppg in six games, Madison had several players capable of stepping up in every game. Daniel Parke averaged 10.3 ppg in seven games and dished out 30 assists. A. J. Hammons averaged 7.0 ppg in seven games, George Walker 6.0 ppg in seven games, and Adam Stanford 7.5 ppg in six games. Hawkins was also accurate from the free throw line as he connected on 27 of 33 attempts.

Several of the players on display this weekend are destined to make an impact down the road at the varsity level.
