Scrimmages?

I have always been a fan of high school softball being a fall sport. Anybody disagree right now?

A lot of other states do it. I agree with LB though around here it could really hurt numbers, Just speaking for my kid I know there is no way she would play HS softball over HS soccer. I would say Holy Cross's top 4 softball players would choose soccer over softball. Holy Cross has small numbers compared to other schools so maybe it wouldn't be as much of a problem at other schools.

As far as travel ball players go fall is huge for college recruiting, maybe more so than the summer so I am not sure what effect that would have on it but again other states do it and I guess it works for them.

This will not happen, unless they want to play in the mud.

Don't bet on it. Conner's field could be ready if we get the sunshine as predicted on Friday.

That is definately wishful thinking! It will be amazing if they get it in since their is still snow on the ground this morning. I have faith though.

If nothing else maybe they could move it too Highlands and do a scrimmage on the turf and just have a short portch in Right Field.

St. Henry/Dayton scrimmage cancelled for today. Holding out hope for Monday scrimmage @ SK...

I am sure Dale would be all for that. Make sure to tell the girls to wear their metal cleats too. :lol2:

Spoke with Coach Coffey at Highlands yesterday, according to him the football field is a "no go"!!!

Certainly is different from school to school. We haven't had a Soccer/Softball player in the last 10 years. Don't think it would make a considerable difference for travel ball either, Georgia plays their high school ball in the fall and I would guess they probably have at least 5 times the amount of college softball players as us.

Highland is at Conner Saturday at 11:00 for a varsity JV scrimmage

I am interested in how Highlands performs against Conner. No one has mentioned anything about Conner, but I am sure they will be a strong team. We will see soon, if all the hype is real

They practice on the football field all the time. I think they were out there tonight, even with snow...from what my daughter told me and I saw the lights on when I dropped her off. They have been out there 15-20 times since Oct. They would go out after the football team was done in the fall.

From my understanding, it's more of an approval process or something thru the school board to allow them to compete on the field. Not sure if that's true, but that's the rumor I heard. Perhaps liability or something.

Conner should be very good. I will be interested too. But no matter what happens, it's still a very early season scrimmage. I can't believe either team is ready to be "judge" at this point.

Conner is right there with Ryle and Notre Dame. As long as they have Biz on the mound they will be a force to reckoned with.

I think the football field simply does not allow for a scrimmage due to the space to safely have a scrimmage. Even in practice they have to be careful not much room beyond the sidelines of the football field. On One side there is the Concrete Stands with steps sticking out and on the other side is Brick buildings with all kinds of steps and ramps sticking out here and there.

Big enough for shaging flyballs or hitting ground balls but just not big enough for game situations. Definately would not be worth someone getting hurt over.

I think Conner is at the top of the Ninth region with Notre Dame, Ryle, and Boone County. I agree it will be interesting to see how Highlands girls compete with a very good team! If you have a desire to be the best you have to play the best!

I think those 4 are consistantly mentioned at top of 9th Region then the rest are mentioned in the next conversation and Obviously everyone wants to be mentioned and more importantly be competative with the best of the best in the region.

Boone Co. and Grant Co. are scheduled to scrimmage on Monday.
