Congrats Lexington Christian

Lexington Christian held off Tates Creek 53-49 in the opening game of the boys' 43rd District tournament on Monday night for the Eagles' first post-season victory in five years.

Coach Brad Carter called it "a huge win" for LCA, but it wasn't a defining moment for the program, which has never advanced past the district semifinals.

"That's the next one we've gotta get," Carter said.

The Eagles will try for it against Lexington Catholic in Wednesday's semifinals.

"We've got a tough challenge, but we've got nothing to lose," Carter said. "We'll come out and see if we can get it done."

LCA got it done against Tates Creek.

Tyler Harville, a sharp-shooting senior guard, led the Eagles with 21 points, including four three-pointers.

TC has had a very poor season......no athletes?

Plenty of athletes in those hallways

No Braxton McFarland for Tates Creek?

Sorry, I've been out of the loop for a bit, so I'm not sure if he was hurt or had quit.

Not sure either but talk about two teams that have fallen hard and I don't see either one being competitive for a while.

Isn't the Rose kid that had some interest from Kansas State a Sophomore?

It seems like LCA has some younger talent if I remember correctly (based on some of the AAU rankings from this summer). Not necessarily saying that translated, but LCA might have some decent teams for awhile especially given what they usually have; whether or not that means they have success in a tough 11th is still up in the air though.

I did think that their hiring a new coach might breathe some life into the program. With Lexington Catholic slipping somewhat, they have a chance to close the gap between them and the rest of the region by filling that void. If you were thinking of Lexington Catholic instead of LCA when you mentioned the teams dropping, I definitely agree that Lex Cath has dropped off (I had a post on it awhile back). With that said, Lex Cath only appears to be less dominant when compared with themselves and the success they've had over the past decade plus.

With that said, I wonder if there is any correlation between the success of Lexington Christian and the relative decline of Lexington Catholic. I would venture a guess that there is. There are now two nicer private schools with competitive sports programs to choose from in the city, and I would speculate that this has hurt the talent pool at Lexington Catholic more than some may realize. Looking on the school's website, the current building that houses LCA has only been open since 1999, so the school has now had some time to take off. The next decade or so should be very telling as to exactly how much of an impact LCA has had on Lex Cath.

What success has LCA had recently?? And for sure there is no effect on Lex Cath with LCA getting their athletes.....

As for their success, the only point I was trying to make was that they've had more recently than they've had in the past (not a very old school, but they've definitely seemed to progress as the school gets older and more established). Over the past four or so years, their profile has increased. Sure, they haven't been to a regional yet, but they play in one of the toughest districts in the state (Lexington Catholic, Lafayette, Tates Creek, LCA, and Dunbar). The fact that they have recently been more competitive with and have beaten some of the publics where they didn't in the past demonstrates this.

As for the kids that enroll, I wouldn't say absolutely no effect on Lex Cath either (although it probably doesn't have the same effect as I had initially thought based on your response). I guess I could have been more clear in stating that I don't think that LCA is the primary reason that Lex Cath has fallen, but it is a factor to consider.

There are inevitably going to be some kids that could help either team that end up playing for one or the other. If LCA weren't around, a kid like Brandon Burdette (now graduated) would have been at Lexington Catholic if they were going to be going to a private in Lexington and wanted to play football. LCA may not get kids directly for basketball, but it seems like there has to be some effect on the other schools considering LCA's success in football and baseball. Seeing him play, I thought that he could definitely play and be effective for a school like Lex Cath, even if he were just a starter/solid role-player type.

While I don't think Burdette would have made a huge difference in what Lex Cath ultimately did when he would have been there, I just thought some kids like this who might have otherwise been there would have a slightly more pronounced effect on what they had in a year were they were down (though unless I'm mistaken, Lex Cath was beaten by Lafayette in the first round of the district his senior year). I would think that over the years, it would be safe to assume that but for LCA, at least some kids like him, Barnette, Rose, etc. would have been at Lex Cath instead, but that's not really something that could be quantified and proven.

When people mention LCA why don't they ever know about Tyler Harville? Their senior guard this year led the whole state in made threes (89), made threes per game (3.4) and shot 42% from 3. Plus averaged 17 points a game. Score over 20 points 15 times. Finished his career with 1142 points and 226 three pointers, tying Taylor Barnette for the school record on made threes for a career.

He also led the 11th region in turnovers. As a pg this cannot happen. Harville is a solid player but what position will he play at the next level? If he plays at the next level. No slam on the kid but just simple questions. His more natural position is the sg, not pg.

Is the Fucci a son of Dom Fucci?

Yes

Led the region in turnovers? That can hurt a kid when you make incorrect statements like that. Totally false. He was in the top 5 in assists though. He will play at the next level. multiple D and D3 offers plus one really good prep school in Vermont after him. Just needs to add 15 lbs of solid muscle. Did you get to see any of his 5 game winners this year? Not a more clutch player in the region.
