I really dont know how Reed got up like he did, but I think I saw a couple of boys start to become men last night after the way they played. I think Owsley's new found heart will take them farther than the crooked roads of eastern Kentucky.

Reed has a very long arm reach for his size. And Kevin Riley, the Owls 6'6 sophomore center, can stand flat on the floor and grip the backboard, which is 9 feet. His arm reach makes him like he's 6'9. I told him the other day that he could probably tie his shoes and not even bend over :lol: . If this kid works hard over the summer on his game he could really be a force in the region the next two years.

Not really. It's 24 miles from Booneville to Jackson and route 15....and a straight shoot to Hazard. About a 1 hour trip.

Well I can't argue with that. It is a crooked 24 miles :lol: . But if you had chosen to come up route 28 through Buckhorn you would have been on the crookedest and mountainous road you've ever been on

 

There's really no easy way to get to Booneville, unless you're coming in from the north. We're only 1 hour and 20 min drive from Lexington.....25 miles to the Mt Parkway at Slade and smooth sailing the rest of the way. But anything south of us is a long and crooked road....and sometmes motion sickness :scared:

It was a clean block imo, but I am an Owsley fan.

But do you think the 4 blocked shots that Collins had on Robert Smith were all clean?

Collins never gets a break. Because he is so big, they call everything on him. If he fouled , you better believe they would have called it.

I thought every blocked shot Collins had was clean, but I also think Reed had a clean block on the last play.

The reason I asked the question was that people usuallly see what they want to see when a call is made....out of simply wanting their team to win.

It all happened so fast and Collins was in perfect position. I think he was fouled. Now it doesn't matter what I think. Owsley won, and I wish them well. I hope they win it all.

Lee, Wolfe, Owsley, and Buckhorn are left. I decided to go to this game last night rather than watch Lee/Jenkins and I was glad I did! I really like this team OC has, although Smith get way to much love on this forum in just 5 or 6 games of work. But, anyway, I though Congleton played good D and the wholoe JBS team looked very weary and tired on Defense IMO. They held the score down and stayed in the game, but if Owsley shot better, it would have been a loss for JBS by 8 or 10 I think. By the way, In My Opinion, you've been very quiet about this thread. Its so funny how you told ol Prof not to underestimate Collins or it would come back to bite him and how you said OCHS's big man couldn't handle him. Looks like you were the one bitten by underestimation here my friend as the block at the end of the game was the play of the year for the Owls. And, no, he was not fouled. Good block

It all happened so fast and Collins was in perfect position. I think he was fouled. Now it doesn't matter what I think. Owsley won, and I wish them well. I hope they win it all.

BTW, this may be the best loss you guys have ever had. In 1999 and 2000 we won the All A region, and advanced to the state semifinals in 2000....and then defeated Knott Central both years after the All A was over. In 1999 we beat Knott by 12 in Hindman, but 2 weeks later they beat us by 3 in the semifinals of the region at Breathitt. Then in 2000 we beat them by 10 in Booneville and 2 weeks later they defeated us by 12 in the semifinals at Hazard. So, losing now doesn't mean the end.

 

I was really impressed with Buchanan...and they're so young. I told their principal last night that people had better beat them now if they can, because the next two years will be a tough win over the Crusaders.

Well, I'll say this; June Buchanan is NOT as good as they are hyped up to be. They are good...but not that good. Watching this game opened up my eyes. JBS is a good school and a good story so far, but they are surely pretenders, not contenders.

JBS is one of about 4 teams that I watch or follow on a regular basis. This team did not play like it did against Perry Central and others that I have watched this year. Some of this could be attributed to the talent and determination of Owsley County. I also think that some of their play can be attributed to a very young team that will get better with every game and every tough loss. I think that the game was a good learning experience for this young team.

I personally did not get sick from the crooked roads? I also think that it was a clean block at the end of the game. I dont think you should use home court advantage as an excuse either.

I think this team will regroup and come back stonger than ever.

Remember this team gets 95% of its points from sophmores thru eight grade...

Now will someone close this post so people can talk about LEE/Owsley.....
