Birds played with better intensity tonight but continúe to struggle shooting.

 

Congrats to Jake Gronotte for the Birds as he played great while Nick True sat entire 2nd half with stomach bug.

 

Ryle plays very good defense and Stuhr had a nice game around the basket.

 

Mays really surprised me, he didnt live up to the hype I have been giving him. Great handle but didnt assert himself much and sort of flipped up all of his shots instead of finishing strong like I watched him do over the summer.

 

Fussenegger was the best player on the court tonight, strong kid WHO elevates When he shoots and has Alot of confidence.

They play aggressive defense, not very deep but they have a formidable starting 5.

 

They hit their first 3 shots of the game, all 3 pointers and Highlands missed their first 4 shots. 9-0 right out the gate.

 

Birds fought back and took lead 11-10 and the qtr ended 12-11 Ryle.

 

2nd qtr the Birds turned it over out front alot due to strong defensive pressure and Ryle jumped up 27-21 at the half.

 

3rd qtr Ryle extended their lead by scoring 12 points in the first 3 minutes of the 2nd half. They outscored the Birds 21-13 in the qtr and led 48-34 to start the 4th.

 

Highlands had a big 4th qtr outscoring the Raiders 21-16. They had the lead cut to 10 with 4 minutes left but Ryle continued to answer. Give them credit they played well tonight.

Mays has an upper back injury that has been bothering him. Hopefully going to see a doctor in the next few days.

I hate hearing that, hope he can get healthy. He seemed a little off tonight.

Another thing worth mentioning tonight was the Ryle Pep band and the excellent atmosphere they provided. I think high school games need more of this. They really gave the fans an excellent experience of what HS hoops is all about. Playing the Notre Dame fight song during warmups brought back Alot of good memories from When I played.

That's good to hear. Hope Drew gets healed up and back to 100%. He is a very nice young man. Alan and the guys are working really hard and having some success after the nightmarish year in 2011-12. Best wishes going forward to the Birds and congrats to the Raiders on the win.

Back in the day (236 years ago when I was in HS), the band was at ALL the home games. I agree with you Q that HS games need the band at more home games. At best it is 50/50 that a band is at the game. Do they only show at 'big' games now?

Band has to play equal # of Boys AND Girls games.

Boone County has always been the high bar over the recent years. This year I've seen both Ryle and Conner step up their pep band game.
