Only thing I know is, I got a text from RCC9 with a halftime score of ND 31-24.

Was not expecting this at all! Interested in hearing some details on this one. Once again this region is so unpredictable!!!!!!!!

Very ugly night for the Birds. It's very risky for me to be on here because I'm not living by the 24hr rule and letting it sink in before I respond! Don't want to say anything I'll regret.

 

ND is a very good team and HHS couldn't match their intensity for the entire game. In the middle of the 3rd, HHS had 3 open looks to tie the game up and then by the end of the third, all of a sudden they were down 14! They never recovered. Too many empty trips and turnovers. Not always forced turnovers. Just my opinion, but this team needs to dig down deeper when things get a little tough. They need to match the other teams toughness and refuse to lose. I know that is cliché but thats exactly what they lack as a team.

 

ND played well. They are big and can throw over the press. They had 5-7 breakouts against the press. I mean baseball passes to wide open players. All missed assignments by the birds. ND is long and get a lot of tipped balls that often lead to turnovers. They also pass well. I wouldn't call them great dribblers, but they are good ball handlers...if you know what I mean.

 

Basically it was a great first half that saw ND get up just a little right before half. The birds got to with in 2 with the ball in the second half and ND was able to find another gear and the birds weren't.

Regardless of this outcome, ND is the best 9th region team I've seen. Not unbeatable, but the best team in my opinion.

Thats why i asked. Not to question coach richey in any way. But it has been my experience that when a team is consistently throw over the top you back off and play hard nosed halfcourt defense! JUST MY OPINION.

What was the difference in the rebounding category? Saw where Smith had 19. The is huge and makes me believe that ND completely dominated the boards.

Yea, I agree. I do think HHS was trying some things in last nights game. Not any excuses, just took some chances they may not have taken in a game that would determine whether they move on or not. Also, I don't feel the game plan was terrible. In my opinion, it was more of a lack of execution. We let players "slip" behind us (which is a no no in any press) and we didn't rotate in the press like we typically do. We seemed late to recognize the next pass, which is usually our strength! The other thing about this staff is they are not afraid to try different things during the season, even if it may cost them a win. They use it as a learning experience for when it really matters at the end of the season. Again, no excuses, just telling what I think. I already said, ND beat us. They are good! Or at least played a good game last night! The good thing is, if we see them again down the road, we'll either know that we'll to execute the things we didn't do well or change the strategy!
