Cold but great tournament and lots of fun, wish there were more local things like this:)

What happened in Conner vs. Knoch?

 

Utter disaster for the Cougars, in a 1-1 game in the 4th or 5th, Knoch goes for 11 runs, think the final was 13-4?

 

Never seen Biz get hit so hard, and so often. The Knoch hitters were seeing the ball so good it was like Biz was throwing basketballs. I will say the bases loaded infield fly, that wasn't called was a killer, the umps missed that one. Still Knoch was a hitting machine., however Conner will still be a tough out in the 9th.

Coach Coffey, when you have your foot on the opponents throat........don't let up till you put them away.

 

This one ALMOST turned disasterous for the Birds. Brossart did one hell of job getting the back into this one, one of the more entertaining finishes of the tourney.

Your right Lawnboy about the ending of this game was exciting. BBHS coach took his starting lineup out in the 5th inning and played his bench ( was told 7 of the 9 were freshman ) he got alot out of those young ladys for sure. Have to give him credit for not putting the varsity players back in the game when it got close. That was great experience for those young players. Was fun to watch

The other side of that coin is at some point you have to put the backups in to get them experience. As you know you have to get them game ready at some point or at least find out what they need to work on. I would say 7 out of 10 times that game ends up not even close after both teams clear their bench with their JV / Varsity Combo players which in Highlands case are all middle schoolers. The good news is the Varsity reentered and they picked each other up and ended up winning the game although Brossart had the winning run on second it gave them a chance to learn from that situation of having the tying run on third and the winning run on second with two outs in the last at bat which I am sure will occur again hopefully not after having game in hand! As a parent I refer to it as a team building exercise! If coaching were as easy as basic math to teach we all could do it! In teaching math 2+2 equals 4 when coaching their are so many variables 2 + 2 does not always equal 4! You have to give credit to Brossart subs they outplayed Highlands subs and made it very interesting. Yes coach Coffey opened himself up to second guessing, but I am sure he had a plan and I am sure he will use it as a learning experience for the team as well as the parents along with himself and his coaching staff. Coach Coffey is officially 3-2 in his High School Coaching carreer so I am sure he is learning every time out!

You MUST give the young Brossart kids credit. The younger girls went in and hit the heck out of the ball. Brossart was down 9-1 i think going into the bottom of the 6th. they had already unloaded their entire bench and took their varsity pitcher out. basically let the game go. highlands then put their jv girls in with only 6 outs to get and up 8 runs. well it obviously didn't work out as planned, but when you are up 8 after 5 full innings in a game where the team only scored 1 run up until that point and had already thrown in the towel, the chances of what happened are very slim. It did happen, but against the odds.

 

they say brossart put their freshman in, well 4 of hhs starting 9 are freshman and they start 2 sophs. so when they put in the jv, it's 7th and 8th graders!

This is true and I agree 100%. We did the same thing last year against Holy Cross, one run away from 10 run mercy rule and we end up having to go 9 innings to get the win.

 

I'm sure Rob had his reasons for the moves he made and I'm not second guessing him, but I take them down for the "10 count" and not give them the oppourtunity to get back up.

 

That being said, the last two innings of this game were really entertaining to watch. Both coaches should be proud of their teams, the reserve players for Brossart and the starters for Highlands, both did an excellent job during the last two innings. :thumb:

Was very impressed with this bunch. IMO some of the Brossart starters looked very uninterested in being on the field. Cold? Long day? Hell I don't know, but that's how I saw it.

I kinda seen that as well in this game. I watched a little bit of the BBHS & Carroll County game Friday night and it was like watching a whole different team. ( Broossart did look flat ) I think by pulling his starters he was trying to send a message to them. But the message Brossart coach hopefully got was he has a pretty good group of young players that can play

What I don't remember you guys making wholesale changes to get us back in the game. I want to see the book!! You are taking away our almost one shinning moment...

It was my first time ever seeing young Miss Moran from HC. Nice pop in her bat. What impressed me most was her knowledge to take the outside pitch where it's pitched. Ump in the NDA game had HUGE and WIDE stroke zone so she got down two strikes. NDA pitcher loved staying outside so she shot a liner to right on the 0-2 pitch. Impressive. Looks like a ball player.

Plate ump's strike zone was really too wide and too high.

 

Base ump struggled with safe/out calls at 2nd base.

Size of my girl probably scared base ump into the out call on Maddy early in the game. Strike zone was wide but I say kudos to Abby for working the outside since he was giving it to her.
