For the second straight game the Breds find themselves in a 1 point halftime game. Less than 24 after being down 1 at the half to Glen Este (OH) 27-26, this afternoon on the "hill" the Breds are only up 1, 24-23. But just like last night the second half was a whole different story. Last night against Glen Este the Breds cruise to a 75-49 victory and it was much the same this afternoon.

NewCath races out to a 12-10 1st quarter led behind the inside play of Drew McDonald and Jake Schulte (4 & 2 pts.) and the outside shooting of Nick Seibert (6 pts.).

The second stanza sees the Centurions play some great pressure "D" and deny the pass into McDonald to take a 1 point led with the clock nearing zeros, but with 00:01 remaining McDonald gets an "unbelievable" tip in at the buzzer from about 6 feet out and the Breds take a 24-23 led into the locker room. Schulte was calling for the ball down low but they would not throw it into him, however the 3rd quarter things would change. At the half McDonald 12 pts, Seibert 6, Schulte, Zac Pangallo, Colin Dupont, & Jake Haas all with 2 each.

Coach Brannon must have said something to his team at the half because they came out of the break and looked like a team possessed. After a Breds basket and a CAL 3 to tie things up less than a minute into the quarter, NewCath holds CAL scoreless the rest of the quarter an rips off 24 unanswered to take a 50-26 led. They Breds "pound" the paint as Schulte, McDonald, & freshman Ben Weyer go off. Things also started getting "chippy" at this point as CAL was called for a "T" & an intentional foul, Honestly it looked like a football game was about to breakout with all the bodies hitting the floor. I know in some game threads the officiating has been called into question, well the same could be said here. At this point all the starts are pulled and the JV takes the floor. After 3 quarters: McDonald 20 pts, Schulte 10, Bueter 4, Weyer 4, & Pangallo, Dupont, & Haas 2 each.

The 4th opens with 3's raining down by Pangallo, Franzen, & Haas and that was it.

The JV game NewCath 54-34, freshman Ben Weyer 18 pts in only 3 quarters. Boys and girls this kid is going to be DYNAMITE!!!

CAL........10-13-03-08 34

NewCath 12-12-26-13 63

McDonald 20, Schulte 10, Haas 7, Pangallo 6, Seibert 6, Weyer 4, Bueter 4, Franzen 3, Dupont 2.

With NewCaths size Grant needs to have the boys getting the ball inside everytime down the court. If not he is a complete idiot!! Newcath hasnt played well for a full fame all season only a half per game. If they can play all 4 quarters they might be as good as everyone thinks. GET THE BALL IN THE PAINT!!!

Agree with everything except the comment about the officiating. I, along with many knowledgable fans around me, thought they did a very good job of containing the "chippiness". As you stated they called the intentional foul and the technical on CAL and later had a double technical. The game could have gotten nasty but I thought they did a good job of stopping it and doing it with authority. There never was any doubt who was in control. NCC can't keep playing one half a game and expect to beat better teams, however.

I still believe NewCath needs to get all new coaches. I have known all the staff for many years and they are good men. I want to see someone who knows nothing of the NewCath program walk in the door see what size they have to work with then see what style of ball is played on the Hill. I guarantee it will be a lot different. Mark my words the Breds will lose a big game this season due to the old tradition of the Breds keeping the ball around the 3 point line. It happens year after year and is getting old fast!!

Joe, I think everyone agrees that the ball needs to go inside, but I was at the game against CAL and thought the Berds did the best job of the year getting the ball inside. For the first time that I can recall, Jake was demanding the ball and was very effective inside. To be fair, CAL was packing it in so much that it was not always practical to force the ball inside. This brings up another point. Michael B and Nick have got to stop thking themselves out of the game with silly fouls. When those two are on the bench and the defense sags inside, NCC is very limited on offense.

Are you being serious? Newcath has lost the last 2 seasons in the Regional Championship game. Your comment about them needing all new coaches is just plain ignorant. Of course NCC will lose a big game this year just like every other team in the 9th region. Unbelievable that this team is undefeated and reading this junk on here. Teams are sagging in and taking away the inside game of the Breds. That will be fine because Beuter and company will just shoot them out of it. NCC has balance, great inside game and very good guards. BTW- Breds play in the 9th region which is one if not the hardest regions in the state to win year in and year out. 9th region is loaded this year with good teams: NCC, Holmes, CovCath, Cooper, Holy Cross to name a few. This is a normal year in the 9th. There isn't a coaching staff around that works harder that Coach Brannen and his crew. Nothing is getting old on the hill, great team this year, next year and if you havent noticed there are some really good players coming in the next couple years. The only thing getting old is reading stupid posts like this. What a joke!

With all the talent that has been on the hill in the past 10 years it is sad they havent won a handful of region titles. When things get close it always comes back to the classic NewCath style of guard play and guard play only. With the size they have this year they have to play inside out for the first time. I am one of a hundred to think it just the only one saying it.

Joe, I will have to respectfully disagree on the coaching issue. This staff is one of the most experienced group in the 9th region. I will agree on the fact that I would like to see them pound the ball inside with the height advantage they have, I'm sure the coaches are wanting the same.

I watch a lot of teams every year. I think Grant's half-court O is one of the best in NKY.

I agree Clyde. People need to realize that teams are sagging in on the Breds and making them beat them from the outside. As Lloyd did last night. Bueter, Pangallo, Seibert and company are going to have to shoot these teams out of their sagging man to man or zone defenses. Nice to have a team that can beat you from the inside and out. Speaking of the last 10 years, there have been some really good teams win the 9th region.

9th region wasn represented very well the last 10 years. NCC has been close quite a few times. Lost in 3 regional championships. The NCC faithful have faith in their team and coaching staff. Not bad for a small school that competes year in and year out with the big boys.
