Powell only lead once at 2-0 to start the game. At the end of 1 Estill lead 18-9 then Powell held Estill to just 6 points in the second quarter. Both teams split quarters. Estill won 1st & 3rd, Powell won 2nd & 4th. Goodwin lead the Pirates with 15, Marcum added 14. Trevor Jenkins lead the Engineers with 19, Colby Baber added 17. Very big important District win for the Engineers as they are now tied at 2-0 in the district with Owsley County. Powell falls to 0-3, that's not only the bad news for the Pirates, they only have 1 home district game and that's against Estill, Powell must travel to both Booneville to take on the Owls and to Beattyville to take on Bobcats. If Powell isn't careful they will find themselves in the 4th seed taking on either Estill or Owsley in the first round of the districts at Estill County. All in all, Estill should have won this game by 10+. Estill lead by 10 with right around 1:15 left, Powell hit couple 3's to cut the lead to 6, they kept fouling Estill and Estill kept missing and hitting their free throws that let Powell stay in this. I think Marcum for Powell only hit like 2 3's the whole game, might of had 3.

Estill's next game is Tuesday at Wolfe County then they go to North Laurel to take part in the Legacy Nissan tournament. Estill's next district game is January 11th at home against the Owsley County Owls in a boy/girl double.

The district is so balanced this year I don't know if it really matters what the seeding is. I suppose everyone would like to stay away from Estill due to them hosting the tournament this year.

But in Powell's 3 losses in the district the margins were 2 to Owsley (although Owsley had a double digit lead several times and led for most of the game), in overtime to Lee, and by 3 to Estill. Owsley won at Lee by 2. It's a toss up to who wins this district this year. But as far as seeding goes, Owsley and Estill are in pretty good shape as of right now.

There's always going to be large crowds whenever Estill and Powell play. When the KHSAA moved Estill from the 10th region to the 14th in 2006 it was a built-in rivalry. The counties join one another and have about the same enrollment (approximately 750). Also, it's only a 20 minute drive between the schools. A natural rilvalry for sure.

You know I got to looking at Estill's schedule and their next home game is actually a district game against Owsley County on January 11. Professor you coming down for that one?

Estill's remaining schedule (leading up to Owsley)

Dec. 18 @ Wolfe County

Dec. 20 Pineville (North Laurel Tourney)

Dec. 21 Corbin/Bell County (North Laurel Tourney)

Dec. 22 ??? (Rock, Whitley, N. Laurel, Garrard) (North Laurel Tourney)

Dec. 27 Christiansburg, VA (Alpha Classic) (IF Maxpreps is correct, Christiansburg was one of VA's top teams last year, didn't give how many players they lost tho)

Dec. 28 Central or Shenandoah Valley Christian, VA (Alpha Classic)

Dec. 29 ??? (Letcher, Somerset PA, Union, Daniel Boone TN) (Alpha Classic)

January 7 @ Somerset

Yes, I'll probably be at Estill for Owsley's game with the Engineers. I don't go to too many away games anymore, but if it's a district game I usually try to make the trip.
