Foul differential is not an indicator of lopsided officiating. You could have a team with twice as many fouls as its opponent in a well officiated game.

I was at the game and didn't think it was officiated unfairly. Newport played a very aggressive style of defense, using a lot of hands, and the officials were not allowing it. Players (and coaches) need to learn to adjust to how the game is being called. Had the officials allowed the more aggressive style, then Dixie would have needed to adjust and play that way. Newport just never adjusted.

Officials are not going to allow that stuff this year so the Holmes and Newport teams who press alot and do a lot of handchecking better be ready for foul trouble. Its a statewide initiative to crack down.

I didn't see Holmes get called for anything like that Sunday. The only ones in foul trouble were Chames and Englemon in the front court. Oak Hills got called for a lot of small things though since they were unable to keep up with Holmes' quickness. Holmes really doesn't play aggressive defense this year. They rely on quickness for a lot of their turnovers.

I'm not sure if other teams do this during open gyms in the summer, but Newport would play without calling any fouls. On Newport's part, it could be carryover from aggressively scrimmaging that way over the summer. They also had foul trouble against Holmes. At some point they will have to adjust or be in foul trouble all year.

Booher doesn't call fouls at Holmes either. He also let's them play whether the ball goes out of bounds or not. These methods are used to help them get used to always going hard for the ball regardless of where it is on the floor and also to make them tougher when teams ARE playing aggressive against them defensively.
