It was what you would expect from both teams. The game was very sloppily played. Cooper lead most of the game by 6 -10 pts. until the the 4th quarter when 4 cooper starters fouled out. The Jags were physical and it caught up with them in the end. The 'dogs took advantage of he Jags reserves the last 4 minutes. The only way this was even close at the end was the 'dogs inability to make free throws. They must have taken 25-30 in the game and only made 8-10. Holmes plyed without Turner and Johnson and really missed them when starters were on the floor for Cooper. I am not sure if Cooper had all their starters. Both teams played hard and will win some games because of effort.

They played physical and Holmes quickness probably caused some of it. They played hard. They pressed the whole game which also led to fouls. They were very agressive in their man to man half court defense.

I think the girls from Cooper played hard for the new coach. I think they teach pressure defense and quicker play. They looked like a team tonight and played together. They didn't get any favors from the refs (Holmes shot close to 35-40 FT's and Cooper was under 20). But they still played sloppy, but played hard. No shame there. This was by far the best game of the night. The other two were blow out city. It hurt Cooper to lose their PG when she was elbowed in the face (no foul called) and then had 3 starters foul out. The foul outs are something that they can learn from. Again, they played hard.

 

Good luck to both teams as they start their seasons off. Both have talent on their rosters!

Why didn't Turner and Johnson play? That's a lot of production out of the Holmes lineup.

Both have foot injuries and in casts. Will not play for a few weeks.

Holmes is going to be VERY GOOD when those two return. #10 for them now is pretty tough.

Cooper doesn't have enough depth to get that many girls in foul trouble. They will have to play without fouling if they are going to be successful. The only go about 7 or 8 deep at this point and have to be able to keep girls on the floor.

 

I noticed in a lot of posts today that people are complaining about the number of fouls that have been called in games this week. Can any of the coaches or officials tell us if there is an emphasis by the officials this year to clean up the girls games?

Ive heard the same also Budman and seen the same in the 8th region. Seems like alot of fouls being called that were not in the past.

They did call a lot of fouls, but I thought it was just hard play and some sloppiness on both teams. A lot of the fouls called were hand check kind of stuff out on the floor and girls getting beat off the dribble. Holder for Holmes was the difference in the game. Cooper had no answer for her in the secong half. She didn't shoot well but followed with second and third shots to finish. Holmes outrebounded the Jags by a hefty margin. Holmes wasn't bigger but really seemed quicker on jumping with timing. Sullivan for Holmes must have had ten steals but could not convert much after the steal, she is a defensive factor. Cooper has a nice team and looks improved over last year.
