I wonder if being so close to being POTUS and with Sandy being THE topic of discussion now if Gov Romney has changed his position on FEMA?

Can an election be rescheduled? I know the Constitution sets the date as the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. I also understand early voting is allowed, which I believe is established by the states. But what about delayed voting?

The Constitution does not set the date. Federal law does.

 

Each state decides on what to do if there is a problem. VA doesn't have anything in its state constitution allowing for a delay. Gov Christie of NJ says he will sign an executive order if necessary.

This disaster will help remind folks that the Federal Gov't (as well as State Gov't) does have a role to play in their lives. Gov't must be capable of responding to situations such as this..........responsibility cannot be privatized.

President Obama has cancelled his stops Monday, yesterday, and today, including Cincinnati. Gov Christie has already praised how Obama has handled the situation and the response.

He was holding a relief drive for people to drop off supplies for the victims of the storm. Such a terrible guy.

I got a text from a colleague who lives in New Jersey after leaving him a voicemail and trying to send him emails.

 

"No power or internet access for 20 miles."

 

If the 50 million without power is correct - that is about 17% of the entire US population and 10 times more people that in the state of Kentucky.

 

West Virginia is snow bound.

 

It would seem there is no way ordinary elections occur next Tuesday for large parts of the affected areas.

 

Will states alter their elections? It would be a state by state decision. But it would seem there will be a lot of places in the dark and struggling come next Tuesday.

^ It could be a huge mess! Congress can change the date for the presidential election, but they are out of session, and that could mean to change it for the entire country. States themselves are allowed to hold the federal elections later, but who at the state level can make that call? So many possibilities and so many challenges. This could turn out to be a huge mess! Get ready for possible legal battles and a delay in the results.

Man, you guys are harsh on the candidates. They both seem to be doing all they can to render aid to the best of their abilities. Both seem to have realized the importance of election pales in comparison to this disaster.

It may hurt voter turnout, but bad weather hurts voter turnout everywhere. Now if the power is out, I'm sure they have heard of generators for the polling spots.

 

Virginia should have no problem, they know coal works.

 

I'm guessing the east coast libs are finding out what it is like to have "green energy".

As I said, if you would take time to notice, "I really didn't pay too much attention to it". To say what he did, it is what he did wasn't it? As I said what Pres Obama was doing as well. And i said "supposably collecting food/supplies or something for relief." Put that with "I really didn't pay too much attention to it" it reads "I heard or I think" or something like that. Notice I also said "quiet", which most people will see as he wasn't making noise or politicking, just made an appearance.

 

That is the problem with politics today, and people, they don't want to ask what some one meant, they just jump the gun and run with it.
