Middle School Football Question

Featured Replies

Watched a couple of 8th grade middle school football championship games last night at Beechwood. First up was the small school championship, Tichenor vs NCC. Was surprised how Tichenor dominated NCC, however the Pangallo kid for NCC is a HORSE and no doubt he will be a star as he goes forward at NCC. Also was impressed with the support Tichenor had in the stands. Future looks bright for Lloyd Memorial.

Next up was the 8th grade large school championship, Turkeyfoot vs CovCath. First, I've never seen that many "coaches" for a middle school team in my life as there were for CovCath. Now my main question, is there a limit to how many "non-coaching" personnel can be standing on the sideline during a game? At one point I counted 55 people, non-coaching types, standing on the sideline for CovCath.

Define standing on the sideline? On the track behind the bench or actually in the sideline box?

If there was room to sit in the stands, non football personnel should not be on the sideline or track.

Who won the 7th grade championship game between Beechwood and Cov Cath?

The Florence Flounders.

There was a game at Beechwood between Beechwood and Cov Cath played at 4:00 before the other two games mentioned above that I was told was the 7th grade championship game. Both teams played the previous weekend and beat opponents to get to that championship game. Did you not know there was a 7th grade game at 4:00 before the other two games?

There was a small school championship. The conference does not have a 7th grade championship. Beechwoods team has 8th graders on it.

They looked like Cov Cath older players. Possibly the freshman team. The tall coach with the thick beard was there.

Then why didn't your report the outcome of the small school championship?

Not on the track, that area had a bunch of kids running up and down the track tossing football during the game. These guys were standing on/very near the sideline, not so much in the sideline box. And they looked to be older. Only time they got near the team sideline box was when CovCath was at far red zone and everyone moves toward that end. Just seemed like a ton of people. Where I was sitting there was plenty of room in the stands.

Don't think they were freshman players. If so, they're huge for freshman. I think I may have seen Coach Ray standing down there as well.

There was another thing that I was surprised to hear. In the Tichenor/NCC game, the PA guy was calling the plays as they were happening instead of after the whistle. The guy did a great job announcing the game. I just thought it was odd that he described the play, calling out player numbers, the play and directions of the play as they were happening. If you were on defense and payed a little attention to the guy you might have had a little advantage. Not that kids listen that much anyway.

So help me out then. Beechwood played Cov Cath at 4:00. Both of those teams played and won "playoff" games the previous week to get to that game, which I had heard was a championship game. So what was that game? I did hear that Beechwood beat Cov Cath in that 4:00 game but I don't know the score.
