Jazz

I can't mention Coltrane without mentioning Brother Thelonious...The Monk. He takes jazz piano to a whole different level for me. Library of Congress released a Coltrane and Monk album Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall in 2005...and it's absolutely UNREAL.

Vince Guaraldi: Sadly, some people never know him for anything more than the Peanuts soundtrack...which is FANTASTIC, by the way. But he did a LOT of really solid trio jazz.

I've got Kind Of Blue and In A Silent Way (both re-pressed), but I don't have a copy of Bitches Brew right now. I have them all on CD though. ...and this thread has me listening to Thelonious at work at the moment.

I have a copy of Miles Davis/Facets/released in 1973,CBS label,Mono,County-Netherlands.

Guys, this is some great stuff. Also, I am VERY jealous. I don't own any jazz on vinyl.

Nice! Released in mono in 1973?

Yep...I picked it up at our local Peddlers Mall(Dirt Mall as Mr.Schue calls them)for about $3.

Unfortunately my dirt mall was made to move so a Burke's outlet store could move in...:irked:

Forgot to mention them earlier. Got to check out this band earlier in the year at Forecastle and was very impressed. I had been jamming out to their release Ya-Ka-May for a few months so I knew we were in for a good time but I think most people were pleasantly surprised. More funk than jazz but insanely cool nonetheless:

Another one I forgot, Kermit Ruffins. His stuff is harder to find as he doesn't really leave New Orleans:

Kermit plays at Vaughn's every week and cooks BBQ for the crowd (which I'm sure my man Jim can appreciate). On the show Treme he plays himself and Steve Zahn's character, Davis notices that Elvis Costello is at Kermit's Vaughn gig and tries to get Kermit (who doesn't know who he is) to go introduce himself to Elvis. When Kermit says no the following exchange happens:

Davis: You’re just standing there and telling me that all you want to do is get high, play some trumpet and barbecue in New Orleans your whole damn life?”

Kermit: That’ll work. (Laughing.)

So here is "Smokin With Some Barbecue"
