Brossart is loaded...so is Bracken. Both are primed to make a run at the regional title.

Against 10th Region teams considered equal to or better than Brossart (Montgomery, GRC, Bourbon, Nicholas, Harrison & Bracken), the Lady Stangs had an 0-6 record & were outscored 60-9 in those six contests (12-0 loss to Bracken, 5-3 loss to Nicholas, 16-0 loss to Harrison, 4-1 loss to Nicholas, 15-0 loss to Bourbon, 8-5 loss to Bracken).

I know this young lady and I have to say a few words about her. She is a very competitive athlete. And what other freshman pitcher won over 20 games last year? I don't care who is on the schedule, and I pulled their schedule up on KHSAA and they beat quality teams like Dixie, Madison Central, Grant, Simon Kenton, and us twice (ND), and had very close games that could have went either way, with Conner, St Henry, etc. You can't stay in the ball game with a pitcher that is throwing meatballs. I know Brossart has a solid defense, but so did we and we lost to teams that they beat. So, do we say it's our pitching? I don't think it was. I can't wait until Feb. gets here!! Go Panda's!!!

I'm not trying to stir the pitching pot, so to speak, but I am curious about one thing...Brossarts two main pitchers, JV and V, both seem to pitch outside the norm of leap and drag style, with much slower speeds. I do not for the life of me understand, after watching several games, how in the world they manage to get strikeouts? Why can't some teams (including my daughters) adjust to the slower speeds and knock the cover off that ball? I'm not dissin' these pitchers at all, but do ANY college pitchers practice this style, or do you only see it in nky where coach z teaches it? It seems to me to be just a faster version of slow pitch....just honestly curious and baffled by the style:)

Actually, my parents were asking about her style on one of the games we played them. If you watched any of the college world series, there was a pitcher from Arizona State that pitched identical to the girl from Brossart. They even compared styles while the game was going on, and one of the commentators, Michelle, was saying the ball was hidden for a longer period of time becasue of the closed hips. I think it is an unorthodox style, but very effective, (obviously). I think Arizona State went preety far, not sure if they won it. When we played them she was slower than some, but had zip on it when she threw it hard. She just never seemed to throw many fastballs. I don't know if that is part of that style or not.

Brossart's defense may be good and they may be able to hit, but IMO pitching/catching is 70% of the game and Bracken's stronger in the circle...or was last year. I'm sure Brossart's pitcher is improving as is every other pitcher or player working on her game.

I put you lower because you lost to Grant, Mason, and us (ND), 9-0. I know you beat Brossart, just think they were more consistent. Some teams have other teams numbers and maybe your Lady Bears have their numbers?? I just think IMO they are a more solid team.

Sham, your Pandas will be very tough to beat this year. I am looking forward to seeing them play. Smith is a competitor and will make them better and even a regional contender. By the way what year and what position does your daughter play for them?

Not sure if she is planning on playing softball but Karlee Schrieber transferred from NDA to St. Henry. She pitched for NDA for the first half of last season before leaving the team. She is a pretty good pitcher.

 

Hate to ask this question again of another transfer, but if she is planning on playing would she actually be eligible to play? Anyone know? Thoughts?

actually watched quite a bit of the series, Bama won:) I didn't see or remember seeing a pitcher use this style. I'll have to do some youtube research:)What is the point of concealing the ball if you don't throw with enough velocity to deliver a rise or a drop? Again, just thinking out loud, no bashing:) We are trying to get back in the groove of training after DD tore ligaments in a pickleball accident:) LOL She's still in a boot, going on week three:(
