August 9, 201214 yr I don't know how this started going around again today; saw it on both Reddit and Facebook as well. The dateline is from November 2010. This Telegraph story was roundly criticized when it was initially released for taking the pope's words out of context and misinterpreting what amounts to a philosophical exercise in moral theology. Nothing to see here. Nothing new happening.

So, I assume "in all instances". If we want to get down to the details, then on a case by case basis (each case being a possible use for condoms) then "advocate" may apply in specific instances.. But it's not true as a blanket statement.

It's pretty clear. He has dropped the ban for the purpose of preventing disease (ie AIDS). However he still does not advocate their use for even that purpose. He advocates abstinence.

So who couldn't have sex with condom and have it be OK? Do you have to have AIDS first before you're allowed? What if you're not sure? Bigger picture: What can we assume as to the reason for not wanting to spread disease?

Isn't that like the parent saying "I don't want you having sex but if you do make sure....?" " I don't want you drinking but if you do make sure you spend the night?" You're a parent. What do you think most kids hear ?
