Very, very bad wreck on Interstate 75 just south of the Walton Exit.

Featured Replies

There is a very, very bad accident just south of the Walton Exit on Interstate 75. Southbound interstate 75 is closed and all the traffic going south, is being sent off the interstate at the Walton exit.

I am sure after viewing the wreck as I crossed over the bridge over the interstate and seeing the Boone County Coroner Ambulance being led to the scene prior to being able to get off the exit, that and the added fact seeing the fire and paramedics covering one of the three cars and truck involved in the wreck, that there are fatalities involved with this wreck.

From your description we will probably be seeing this one on the news---unfortunately. I hope it was not as bad as it looked, TOG.

Explains why all the volunteer Fire Fighters went flying past my house earlier.

I hope not too but it was indeed a bad one! Strange I was about a half a mile behind the wreck on !-75 N about a month ago that killed the lady in the back seat of a car, when the driver stopped dead on the interstate due to a blown tire by a truck.

I drive that section of road about four times a day and the traffic goes well over 75/80 mph.

Funny when I attend events like the KHSAA Baseball Tourney or Sweet Sixteen and see four, five or more State Trooper doing security duty at these events it bothers me big time that I never and I MEAN NEVER see a state trooper on the Interstate from Walton to Ft. Mitchell.

Heck at one time I ran the State Rest Area in Boone County and indeed when we saw a State Trooper at the Rest Area on either the North or South Bound side we would all go outside to see him/her as it was indeed a strange event to see one there!

If I am not mistaken, that section of the interstate is covered by the local authorities and the Vehicle Enforcement group, not the state police.

Not that the State Police don't have a trap every once in a blue moon, but they leave it up to the locals.

Now from Crittenden to Georgetown, your almost guaranteed to see one or two state police, if not near the interstate, up on the ramps and bridges, they love to hide through out that stretch.

Channel 12 just had a story about the wreck and a picture. There was no truck involved (I guess it was just parked by the wreck) and the picture they used is what I saw, it indeed looks bad

To your statement ky, why in a area that has had the number of wrecks that have happened on a Interstate HWY doesn't the State Police patrol? Oh that rights, we in Boone County and Kenton pay taxes to have our own police, so those in Frankfort figure we can handle it ourselves, so they don't bother to do any type of paroling in our area, however, my guess is that we don't see a reduction in our tax dollars at all for the lack of the Ky State Police patrolling in our area of Ky!

Your complaint should be with the Boone County and Florence. Call Mike Helmig.

The KSP is underfunded and running thin.

The state police was created to patrol rural areas where small local departments need help. The northern counties (boone, kenton and campbell) do not fit the description.

Fine but have you see the number of KSP at the Baseball Tourney, the Sweet Sixteen or the State Fair and not the Lex or Lou PD handling the crowds?

Remember I said a State Rest Area, you know a State run operation, that a lot of folks would seems to think would mean you would see a State Hwy Patrolling person from time to time patrolling!

I have driven in and around Corbin on I-75, between Crittenden to Georgetown on I-75 and around along Beaver Dam section of of the WKY PKWY, heck AAA has a warning about police speed traps on I-65 around Bowling Green and see a ton of KSP but on one of the busiest section of the Interstate hwy in NKy never or at best rarely!

Trust me Clyde, I can do better than Mike and indeed Mike is a good guy but in Boone I will place a call to someone a little higher on the food chain whom I know!

You ignored the second part of Clyde's post.

And what will you tell them? KSP should be in rest areas?

Local police handle rest areas just like they handle the interstate.

It's not a KSP issue .

So why do I see so many of them in Lexington, Louisville and Bowling Green! I mean they are not exactly small towns!

I travel all over and rarely, rarely see KSP on the road.

I don't know why you see them in those cities. Perhaps it's just a coincidence that when you have been in those cities, the state police are there.

Like I said before, KSP was created to patrol rural areas. If you took the KSP away from counties like Grant, Pendleton, Bracken, etc to put them in Boone county that would be silly. Boone county has plenty of police, while the other counties I mentioned do not.

You mean being underfunded and running thin? What more do you want from us in NKy? We pay for those services from the KSP and then again pay for the services that are given to us by the Boone and Kenton County police!

Clyde after working at a State Rest area for 13 years, trust me there is a ton of crime from Drugs to Prostitution and more but thankfully the County of Boone did a good job looking out for the traveling public, but it wasn't a problem for the citizens of Boone who paid the freight of patrolling the place!
