Omar Prewitt has three offers; a new coach

Montgomery County High School senior-to-be Omar Prewitt had one of the best all-around seasons of any player in Kentucky last winter.

The 6-foot-5 Prewitt averaged 21.5 points and 10.4 rebounds and hit 83 of 204 – 40.7 percent – from three-point land for the Indians.

Now, Prewitt it trying to get better.

“Defense is the main thing,” Prewitt said. “I still need to get better at everything, but I am really trying hard on defense. It’s getting better.”

Prewitt said he’s hoping to benefit from the addition of new coach Happy Osborne, the longtime Georgetown College head coach, as the new coach of Montgomery County.

“It’s going to be a change of pace, with the individual workouts and all,” Prewitt said. “I’m sure we’re going to be in the gym longer. Just his college experience, he will make it a college practice style and help us all out.”

Prewitt, who plays AAU ball for The Ville, has three offers and a lot of other looks. William & Mary, James Madison and Tennessee Tech have all offered, while he’s heard a lot from Samford, Belmont and Wright State along with others.

He is a mid-major type player. I could see him at a place like Marshall or Morehead St. You can't teach his height and he is lights out.

Is foot speed the only thing keeping this kid from getting better offers?

I think quickness is his biggest fault. He moves at his pace but seems to get the job done. He can flat fill it up.

Foot speed and strength would be areas for improvement if O's college potential is going to increase.

High basketball IQ. Long. Strokes the 3. Nose for the ball. The kid really knows how to play. If the kid from LCA can sign with Virginia, I am going to say Omar will go higher than the schools mentioned above.

I really like his game. It just seems coaches today are all looking for the guys that can jump out of the gym and run like a deer, but I think some coach will be smart enough to see this kids talent. He is a basketball player and I think some college coaches just arent doing their homework on this young man.
