May 8, 201214 yr Good timing. Next week they'll be celebrating Constitution Day in Norway (basically their Fourth of July). What better way than with some Edvard Grieg? Very happy that the Louisville Orchestra managed to get everything sorted out last month and that they'll have a full season starting in September.
May 9, 201214 yr When I was in dental school in Louisville, I got to see "Bugs Bunny on Broadway" performed with the cartoon and the Louisville Orchestra playing the music live. "The wabbit of Seville" was my fave. Awesome. I could watch it over and over. The music was perfect, you could feel it live of course. Anyone else ever see this?

I haven't seen that...but when I was 9 or 10, my parents took my younger brother and I to a similar showing of Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights" at Riverbend Music Center with the Cincinnati Pops performing the soundtrack. It was awesome - I'd imagine it's not completely unlike seeing "Bugs Bunny On Broadway". I'll definitely have to see if there's anywhere I can try to check that out some time, though. Sounds like something I'd definitely enjoy. When I was in college, I took a few extra art, music, and history classes for giggles (part of why I have a 6-year bachelor degree instead of the usual 4-year variety). One of my music professors gave us an entire 2-week-long lesson on the use of classical music in cartoons in the first half of the 20th century. He was published on the subject, if I recall correctly. Anyway...Disney, Warner Brothers, and MGM were the major purveyors of classical music in cartoon. He talked about various reasons why the classical pieces that were used were likely used, and why they were or weren't such great pieces to use where they were. The coolest part was, I got to spend two weeks of class going to college and watching some great classic cartoons with great music to match.
