How many wins does CovCath have at this point? -

Very well pitched game (or poor offense, take your pick) - I don't believe either team had a hit until the 4th. -

Covington Catholic 11 Holy Cross District HS 2

Last night was a good one for CCH baseball. The JV threw a no-no at Holy Cross and won 10 - 0, and the Freshmen won their first round game in the Frosh Regional against a very good Campbell Co. team! -
Yes. Last year, CCH came in to the seed game #1 and Holy Cross came in #6.

Boone County / Covington Catholic predictions
Alex Chilton replied to First Base's topic in KY Baseball (High School)
It is almost freakish how similar the Colonels' results are from this year and last year. At this point last year, CovCath was 13 -1 and rated 18th in the state by the Coaches' Association. At this point, both this year's and last year's teams had beaten Holy Cross in a non-seed game by very similar scores (this year by a score of 6 - 3, and last year by a score of 8 - 3). At this point in the season, both teams had beaten Ohio power Hamilton Badin, NewCath, Conner, Ryle, Bishop Brossart, Simon Kenton and Cooper. This year's team beat Boyle County, while last year's team beat Louisville Trinity. Both teams' only loss - Dixie. So if you are looking for guidance, last year CovCath beat Boone in their first matchup by a score of 9 - 4. -
Who are the top returning pitchers in the 9th region
Alex Chilton replied to mitchell9's topic in KY Baseball (High School)
From the Enquirer: "Holy Cross will certainly be pushed in its own district – the 35th – thanks to Covington Catholic returning eight starters and 21 of its 28 pitching victories....." Cov Cath lost 25% of its pitching victories from last year. Hard to say EVERYONE returns........ That said, just like last year, Cov Cath will certainly have the deepest staff around. -
Shumate's Team Scores Last 30 Points to Win by 1

The story has gone national, with coverage by USA Today, Yahoo! Sports, The Indianapolis Star, The Tucson Sun, among others. The USA Today story: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/basketball/story/2012-01-24/Indiana-team-wins-with-big-comeback/52773388/1 -
I think that credit should be given to the CovCath pitchers who were getting ground ball outs all day. Newport did not have a hit out of the infield until the fifth inning (although there were a few fly ball outs which obviously left the infield). Kudos to the Newport pitcher who kept the CovCath hitters off balance, and to the Newport fielders who made a number of impressive plays ( Newport was very strong up the middle -C, SS, 2B and CF).

And you base that on what? Innings pitched? Wins? Strikeouts? ERA? -
Cov Cath's Adam Shumate Signs With Hanover

Coach Wirth told me he was their starting tight end all year. Don't know why, but I don't think they threw much to him, though. -

Hard to tell a college football coach that a 6'3" or 6'4" 205 pounder who runs a 4.8 forty can't play college tight end. I understand Hanover's upper classman tight end was one of the top receivers in their conference last year. Not a bad fit.....
