Again you aren't reading my post and are twisting it. I am AGAINST the split and against this way of doing it because both weaking 4A. I already have explained what I think should be done. Woody why are you beating a dead horse?!!! I said I prefer a 5A system to this mess and I also preferred the status quo with a few ideas that both public and private can agree to that limits the range a player can be drawn from.

Apperently they only care when their teams are the ones that have to play them. Which is the point of this, to keep the publics from reviewing the public private debate again in the future by keeping the publics divided. Meanwhile competition overall suffers in 4A.

We have been stating our objection to the underhanded way this was done to stop the public private split by dividing the publics and about how it effects the whole 4A system and we held that up as an example. Again you are the one bringing up Manual under devisive language to split it up but there have been plenty of St. X and Trinity fans that see this as a problem as well. If you see this as a Manual problem then it just underscores that you don't know anything about 4A and really you might want to stop reread the post and try to understand what we are ACTUALLY saying not what you want us to be saying.

Woody this is not just about Manual no matter how hard you try to make it that it really isn't. Manual has as much to lose as Butler, PRP, Eastern, and others, the difference is that those school don't have a fan base on here. If you like the system for 3a then that is fine but why don't you listen to the folks in 4A that know what they are talking about, and it is not just us, even the Trinity, St. X and other 4A fans know what we are talking about. You don't! And you don't have too, why don't you just celebrate the easy road Ashland is getting and move on.

I think the 5A thing is better than this.

Same for PRP an Butler too. This kinda stinks, but we are going to have to do better and overcome it. The thing is that a team like PRP, or Manual, can beat St.X and Male, but it is alot harder to beat one and follow that up with a win against the other the next week. That is the problem, it is mentally challenging as well as physically it will be harder the second game to win.

And the stationing ot Troops in Korea was only going to be a year too in the beginning. We really don't know what is going to happen, this could be just a blip or it could be the future. I am against it for the future, this one year will not make or break anything. But long term this would be bad for 4A is all I am saying.

Really? Is that a sure thing? What assurances do we have to that?

Ok let's straighten somethings out, first I am baseing my statements on past history, out of the last 30 years there have been 5 or less teams from outside of Louisville 4A that won the 4A title, so that is why I am saying the 'Ville is not worried about winning the title, not for nothing but it has normally been St. X or Trinity, so I am not being arrogant, those are not my schools, I have nothing to be arrogant about it is just a fact that those two schools are going to benifit from a lack of parity in Louisville, and make them even more dominate then they already are, for the short term, then they are going to need to play out of state powerhouses to stay sharp in the long term. Secondly this hurts PRP and Butler in the exact same way it hurts Manual, they are not going to get the breather game in between powerhouses or a legit shot at more than one playoff week of practice to build for the future. Third, when I said I don't care about 1A-3A, I didn't mean that I think they are below my concern, it is just not the class that I follow, if many teams in my community played at that level I would care more but most are in 4A, and "I don't mind" are better words to describe my meaning then "I don't care" to describe the fact that if this system works better for 3A then fine let them do it but I think it hurts 4A. Again this STUPID anti-Louisville bias out there is the reason that this will poison 4A and no one will do anything to stop it. The thing is this, all the districts that think they have a great team but have not played anyone to challenge them are going to get steam rolled in later rounds and every year that happens there will be less and less interest in the playoff and football overall in the 4A teams out in the state. You have to have more parity and this leads to less parity in 4A.

You are looking at it from the perspective of your school then I guess because as someone that has followed this district and 4A football for 16 years I think it will have a great effect on 4A football, not limit to just my school. I think it is step BACKWARDS, which is totally predicated on making the road to the championship easier for the 4A county schools and harder for the Louisville schools and so as to split the Louisville public schools from the rest fo the state politcally so as to stop the public private split. (a split I disagreed with from the start mind you) basically it is designed to put you and I at odds and I am not surprised at all, as long as the politician keep the rural area folks fighting with the urban area folks they can do whatever they please. Also I don't care what they do in 1A-3A, if it works better for those classes due to their make up then fine, but let's face facts this was done to stop the public private split and is really about 4A that I am upset, the rest of the classes it is not as big a deal because they have more parity overall then 4A does. The lack of 4A parity is what the public private root problem is about, and parity is healthy for football. That is why 3A is often just as good as 4A or better in my opinion, because parity inspires hope and rivalry. Something 4A lacks.

Because it is making matters worse instead of better, that is simple enough. Look I may have never run a 6 minute mile on flat track, but I already know that running it up hill is not going to lower my time. I may never have thrust my hand into a campfire, but I already know it will not feel good. And I know this will not be good for increasing parity in Kentucky 4A football. It is simple as that.

I don't think you understand what we are upset about, the 'Ville isn't worried about winning the title, that will happen anyway, what we are upset about is the best teams will not meet in the finals, they will meet in the regionals. And the other Louisville schools will not get the chance to compete against teams out in the state during the playoffs. And the roads to the championship will not be equal. These will combine to lower the bar and make football less exciting.

This "crowd" actually knows what they are talking about when it comes to 4A, and this is not a good thing for the quality of competition. Manual has not won a State title since the 60's so the end result is not going to change much for us. Not to say this doesn't effect Manual but really my beef is that it effects the whole system and it will have a negitive effect on 4A football overall due to the dynamics of the situation with the city schools and the private school having a dominate effect. Heck I may be wrong and this might be the greated thing since sliced bread, but this is my opinion. And if you are writing off my opinion or the other Manual posters because our school is getting a rougher road to the finals you can do it but you are writing off the opinions of a bunch of guys that played in this district, grew up in this district and who's grandfathers played in this district and that know of what they speak. I was against the split even though my school was for it because I thought it hurt football, and I am against this because I think it will hurt football.

That is the mentality it seems, as long as it is just Manual or just Louisville schools, then who cares. I am sure that was taken into account. That is why this will work, it will split up the public schools as a group and pick them apart and then nobody will do anything as the status quo continues, and everyone will be fine with that. In the mean time the quality of 4A football will likely decline in Louisville public schools and Trinity and St. X will have to schedule more Cincy teams to keep competitive. Basically I think that this is bad for 4A football, same reason I was not for the public private split originally, competitive teams make for better teams and more D1 opportunities for our players.

Actually they DO, only the finals gate go to the state.

Nelson Co. is not in that District though, and they were the higher seeded team that game, that is why it was played in Nelson Co. and not at Manual.

Yes because before there was a good chance that Male, Butler, PRP, Ballard or Manual was going to have a realistic shot at a good playoff run most years. Now that is diminished and the best players are really going to try to go to the schools that have the best shot. And when your school is looked at as not having a chance to win there is less interest at the school level to join the team even in a supporting role, thus it will be harder to field DEPTH the very thing that will be needed for a long playoff run. I really do think you will see that St. X and Trinity will DOMINATE this system. I am not calling anyone cheats here I am just saying I think that football interest in Louisville is going to take a dive outside of those two schools.

Right they are the winners in this. (Actually Male is not as much as St. X and Trinity) And I don't want to seem like I am crying, my eyes are dry folks, the end result for my team is really not changed too much except we are likely to lose an extra week of practice time each year. I just think it was a brilliant political manuvauer and that everyone will fall for it.

Those schools should be praising this because it helps them, but not nearly as much as it effects 4A ball.

Right which is what this is about, by removing Trinity and St. X from the eqaution there will not be support from the state public schools for a split. They are now a Louisville 4A publics schools issue and not a state 4A issue and as such the rest fo the state could care less and probably smile about how we are getting the shaft. It will not effect NCC and Lex Cath as much and so now the KHSAA is safe from the split. But I think overall this will make St. X and Trinity MUCH stronger teams and the rest of 4A and Louisville much weaker, and in the long run that will hurt competition and weaken all 4 A football in the state. That is my take.

No offense but I don't think you understand the situation clearly. To us this is like having the top three teams in the NFL playing and eliminating themselves before the AFC championship game. There is no chance for the weeks of extra practice to develop the younger players, and the odds of surviving after that meat grinder are going to drop alot. View it as crying if you like but this is a horrid way to have a meaning full championship, and what they are doing is piggy backing a hate for Louisville on to high school sports to split the public schools politically.

Right because Louisville 4A are the ones getting the shaft upfront, though all 4A will in the end. That is the reason they passed this, by making this a Louisville problem, the rest of the state will not support a prop 20 ever again. It really is quite clever of the KHSAA to get what they want by only making this hurt Louisville 4A schools the rest of the state will go along with what ever they want.

I am not implying anything illict or covert. Please understand I am not saying that this was an evil master plan, on the contrary I think the KHSAA is fully to blame not the Catholic schools, but the EFFECT is that dispite the public school vote the exact opposite has taken place. In my view this happened as a reaction of the KHSAA to stop the split from happening, by splitting the common interest of the public schools, the effect in my view gives the Catholic Schools with more reserves of players and more numbers of boys to draw from an UNINTENIONAL, and slight advantage. I am NOT saying this was plot by the Catholic schools, though the effect is the same, they are taking the publics to the woodshed. And yes I do think that injuries hit a team like Butler harder than a team like St. X due to numbers of player and talent of depth, I think there is a greater drop off in depth in High School public schools than private schools.
