  1. Being part of the LCA family, I want to thank you for those kind words, and I know the LCA staff thinks a lot of the Rose Hill program. You are so correct that in 20 years what was done on the high school basketball courts will be long forgotten. As I have mentioned in other posts my son is the LCA player that sustained the knee injury that has kept him from participating in any games this year, and yet being part of the LCA program, having Tommy Huston and Brad Carter as coaches, has been a blessing to him. I am more proud of the person he has become, than anything he might have been able to accomplish on the basketball court this year. All basketball shots taken today will be fade aways come tomorrow.
  2. I agree totally about Trace Helton, he does not get enough praise, he is a true point guard, pass first and shoot second. Last night he shot more and showed what he can do when he shoots, I know the coaches want him shooting more, but he wants to make those about him better. I was happy that he was able to show all that he can do. The center is to be re-evaluated on Jan 21st to see if he can come back for the All A, the doctors and therapist are amazed at how fast he is recovering but to be honest most would not have given him a chance of being ready before the season ended. Any injury is a shame but a kid loosing most of his senior season, is a heart breaker.
  3. Help is coming to LCA, stay tuned Rose Hill will only get better
  4. LCA lost two seniors from last years team, one their leading scorer and starting small forward, and go to player. The other senior started the first half of the year, then by the time of the Rose Hill game he was the sixth man, as LCA moved to starting a 3 guard line up by that point, this player was the most athletic player and played power foward. He also had a shot to win the game last year with Rose Hill with under 20 seconds, but with LCA down 1 point he opted for a three pointer rather than drive to the basket, and the miss was rebounded by Rose Hill. The final starter missing from last year team is a current senior that is still recovering from knee surgery that occurred just before the season began, he was the leading returning rebounder, and second leading scorer. However, in defense of Rose Hill, with the exception of LCA temporarily missing their center, all the other players are much more improved and more seasoned being older. Give Rose Hills sophomores a couple of more years and I do predict they will be a force. The old saying you can't teach size and athletism, which Rose Hill definetly have that in Euton and Jackson. LCA could be a force when their returning center returns, but it all depends on how fast he gets his strength back in his knee.
  5. I was about 20 feet from the play, I feel he didn't just walk, he tried to "skip" through not two LCA defenders, but one of his own players also. Let's not take anything away from LCA, Dakotah made the first point of the game, but LCA quickly took a 10 point lead and controlled the entire game with Rose Hill cutting it back to 3 or 4 a couple times, but LCA was able to push back out flirting around 8 or 9 points. Rose Hills offense started to become effective when it resorted to throwing the ball up to the rim and letting Chad Jackson crash to get the ball and score. My opinion Chad Jackson hurt LCA more than Euton Senior Guard Trace Helton for LCA was named game MVP
  6. yes there is radio coverage but I am not sure of the stations at this point, sorry

  8. Okay guilty here of trying to spur discussion and sound unbiased, therefore having said that I do agree that it would be a huge surprise if LCA didn't win. It is still hoped that their starting center of last year would make his first appearance of the year, but it won't be known until the week of the tournament.
  9. I would say that Lexington Christian Academy is the favorite, sporting a strong starting line up, however, with injuries seen and unseen, you never know. Frankfort is trying to restablish itself after getting their better athletes in from football, therefore I think their record to date does not show the potential this team has, and could push LCA.
  10. Yes both games will be televised by WKYT. Trust me it is killing my son missing the chance to play that night, he has yet to play for LCA the year as rehabs from knee surgery. A couple of radio stations will be carrying the game also. I have seen the roster for the Findlay Preparatory out of Vegas (DeAndre Liggins team) and they must have had 5 guys listed at 6'10" or better. I was told all of these guys are Division I level players. They will face Western Reserve Academy from Ohio, primarily Division II & III in the opening game. LCA and Rose Hill will play in second game, with hopefully the fans sticking around.
  11. It is true that Euton & Jackson beat LCA last year, however, it should be noted that LCA had the ball with approximately 15 seconds to go, down one point, and a player elected to shoot a 3 pointer rather than take the ball to hole to score 2 or get fouled with the possibility of winning at the line. Rose Hill rebounded and subsequently won. Now taking nothing away from Rose Hill, they deserved to win, but LCA was in a position to win the game.
  12. Please read above, I stated I do not want any player lost. My son is in his senior season, was the starting center for LCA last year, and was looking forward to a good senior season but in during "practice" before the season started, tore his patella tendon in his knee, just jumping up for a pass with no one around, now we hope he can come back for a hand full of games if he heals. So NO I do not want a player EVER lost for ANY reason. Not the purpose of this post.
  13. And now we come full circle, as the reason I used the same team holding the ball was to spur thought and see if there is consistancy which quoting this rule above, to me clearly show it is not consistent. As quoted in the ruling "to wrestle the ball" clearly would take a second or two, not a nano-second. Therefore, does the jump ball rule state that it is to protect players from hurting one another? If not, then I just feel it should be applied the same way if between tie ups between defense and offense as it is applied between two offense players. My point is, the quick whistle penalizes the team that looses the alternative position, therefore, make a true tie up before calling it quick. Yes an injury MIGHT occur on tie up, but I would put forth that an injury is more likely to occur on taking a charge. Just my opinion, there is no right or wrong here, just provoking some thoughts till the next ball game.
  14. Correct me again if I am wrong, maybe the rule changed but if two players on the same team both grab the ball at the same time and hold onto it, it is a turnover? Maybe I have gotten to old and the rules change.
  15. Thanks for the toughts on the topic, I can see the point of the quick whistle if it can avoid injury. I was looking it as rewarding defense without as much effort. I would put forth more injuries occur on the DIVE for the ball due to contact on the floor than pulling a ball away from another player. Basketball will always be a contact sport contrary to popular belief. My son has always been agressive diving for loose balls, and banging inside with bigger guys. The only real injury he got was going up for a high pass and coming down and tearing his patella tendon, and nobody was even near him, just the act of jumping. I do see your view, and that was purpose of the post, to spur thought. I will always want players to play aggressive, but never want ANYONE on ANY team to get hurt, trust me, watching my son sit his senior season. I would never wish that on anyone.
  16. Is it just me or have you noticed lately that jump balls are called quicker than when you try to swat a mesquito, or are they and does it just seem to be as irrating as the mesquito's bite? I must say it has been a few years ago since I played high school basketball (four score and seven years ago.......), but my memory isn't failing me that bad, and it seems to me that you would have to have a hold of the ball for SECONDS, not tenths of a second before the "stripped" birds of paradise would start tweeting their call. I mean if you are going to blow the whistle on a tie up between players for tenths of a second on players rolling on the floor for a loose ball, or a blocked shot, then why not blow the same whistle when two players from the same team grab the ball on rebound? Isn't that considered traveling? Most times the players are doing the "mine mine mine" as they struggle for the ball for the same length of time as some of the calls on a player whose shot is stuffed. I mean it's embarassing enough to be blocked than to have the ref's blow the whistle and call a jump ball, as everyone has time to WHOOP it up. Anyway just wondering if I am seeing something that is not reality to everyone else?
  17. I think the paper messed up on LCA's boxscore, the 9 to Kindred, should be 9 to Sparks. Gotta give Sparks his credits as he takes up the slack for my son as he recouperates.
  18. I am picking GRC in this game. LCA has played both teams, splitting with GRC and defeating Mercer, and I think GRC is the better team. Now that is not to slight Mercer, and anything can happen on a given night. I thought Mercer in warm ups before the game with LCA, appeared more physical than did GRC, however, I thought they didn't use that strength much in the game. Now having said that their big guy got into foul trouble in the first half (around 6'7"), so he was out some in the first half. But was used sparingly in the second half, and I think that was due to them trying to match up with a smaller lineup to match LCA's three guard offense. Last night against Fern Creek Mercer won it's 3 game of the season against 4 losses. Their second win came the day before against Frankfort 48-44. My prediction is that both teams seem to be surging right now, and I see a close game, but I think GRC has more weapons to get the job done, and are faster in the transition game. Good Luck.
  19. No sorry I had to leave, I kept the books for the first two games, and watched the third, I was spent after the GRC and LCA games. If they email me tonight I will post it. The Herald Leader did not carry the scores of last nights games in this mornings paper. So if I find out in the morning I will post as soon as I find out.
  20. Congratulations to GRC for winning a hard fought game. They over came an eight point half time deficit, to take a two point lead at the end of the third quarter and never looked back. GRC looked much more improved from the last time these two teams played. Being part of the host team, I wish we could have prevailed, but instead I will say well done GRC, and good luck tomorrow night.
  21. Frankfort defeated Marion County Frankfort's leading scorers were Keri Metcalf with 12 points, and Mico Wells with 10 points Marion County's leading scorers were Mitchell Lancaster with 16 points, and D.J. Hall with 9 points

  23. In the semi-finals bracket the Friday games are as follows: LCA will play the winner of the Clark Co./Rowan Co. game at 7:30 PM Mercer Co. will play Fern Creek game at 9:00 PM The consolation games for 5th & 6th place Frankfort will play Marion Co. at 4:30 PM Boyle Co. will play the loser of Clark Co./Rowan Co. at 6:00 PM
  24. This post reminds me of how much grief my boys gave me when they saw a photo of me in my high school uniform from years gone by (WAY GONE BY). Can you say short shorts.
