Waggle 12, I think I need to clarify something that you posted about Harlan making it to the semi-finals. I think you should of stated the semi-finals of the region, better know as the second round of the play-offs. You have the first round, second round, regional finals, semi-finals of the state, then the state finals. But like Dragonpappy said, this is a Cumberland thread, if we want to talk about Harlan then we either need to wait on the guru to start the thread on Harlan football or someone needs to start one.

I really don't see Evarts coming to Cawood and I don't see Cumberland coming to Cawood. Would it be the smart thing to do money wise? Probably. But, I don't see it happening.

Lungbuster, I don't have a crystal ball or anything like that, I just assumed that they would hire a coach after the football season is over.

Lungbuster, I couldn't agree with you more. This is the most exciting time I have seen in Harlan County since the coal boom back in the day. I would love to see Harlan Countians pull together and work together to make this thing great. I am hearing that this school will be like no other. The facilites will be off the chart and it will be great for the kids of Harlan County.

I have a friend who coaches at Cawood that said that they have over 50 kids in the weight room right now, that is not including basketball and 8th graders. If that is the case, Cawood has not seen those numbers since the early 90's.

How about Jim Matney. I have heard his name thrown around also.

Dragonpappy, the kickoff was a great play by Harlan but I don't think it was coached up by JB "Bowden" Donahue. I think it was more like luck. But still a great play.

Well, there is one thing about it. This hiring is closer than ever. This time next year Harlan County Black Bears will have its new and first head football coach. As a matter of fact, I would say they will hire someone by next December after the football season ends.

Lungbuster, from what I am gathering is that he would like to move his family back closer to home. He is from Pineville and with his mom and dad getting up in age and having children that I am sure Dr. Woolum would like to see more often, that job could be very tempting to him.

Jon has done a fine job at Cumberland and his team will be fine this year.

I think it takes a while for JR High/Middle school coaches to make the jump from being a jr high head coach to being a high school head coach. What I mean by that is Jr High coaches need to be assistant varsity coaches for a few years and understand the change and the hard hours that is put in being a varstiy coach especially a head coach. Then with a few years under their belt, move up to the big job. Not saying that it has never been done with success because I don't know but I guess if anyone that could of done it, it would have been Jim Roark.

I heard today that Mark Woolum was very interested in the job. Mark is a head coach somewhere down in Florida where he has had some very successful years. Granted Harlan County does not have the athletes Florida high schools have. How would someone like Woolum fit in?

I am through arguing with someone who just wants to stir up trouble. I have had my good laugh at the things that have been posted by Waggle 12. This thread is supposed to be about the new Harlan County football coach and nothing more NOT personal attacks against the superintendent of Harlan County Schools.

Waggle 12: Thanks for the compliment. I have never thought of myself of being a stud but coming from a guy like you is a real privelegde. You are cracking me up on your talk about Tim and the Harlan County School System. Since you are a Harlan Alum then I think you need to just make you up a thread about Harlan and you can sit and talk on it with whoever you want. But, if you are going to sit on this thread and bash people with cheap shots that has nothing to do with the thread just because you have a PERSONAL vendetta against Tim then that is fine too but you are just showing your ignorance about this whole situation and topic.

LOL, Waggle 12, it is obvious that you do have a personal vendetta against Tim and I know why but bluegrasspreps is not the time or the place to discuss it. This thread was supposed to be about who will get the head coaching job at the new school not personal attacks against Tim Saylor and the school district. So, lets get back to the topic.

Cawood football player, thank you for bringing that up. That has been my arguement this whole time. A waiver was granted therefore the hire is legal.

They voted not to increase taxes.

This job does not have to be posted. Say what you want and we can sit and argue this back and forth but it is over. Coach Perry is the coach.

The Brain, just in case you didn't know a superintendent can't vote, so therefore he was not able to vote but strongly urged the board not to vote for the contract. Yes, I did mean teacher/student ratio. Yes raising taxes would help the school system and that is what I said. "He was not the one who voted NOT to raises the taxes". Check my last post. Maybe I could have worded that a little different but it is what I meant.

Nothing was done illegally, so everybody might as well just let this die. Coach Perry is the coach at Cawood High School and I agree with Stretch Right that Cawood is very fortunate to be able to hire a quality coach like him. It is done, he is the coach, so lets move on and good luck to Coach Perry and the Cawood Trojans in their last year of exsistance.

Waggle 12, those are some awful strong words coming from someone who has no idea what Tim Saylor has done for the Harlan County district. He was not the one who agreed to the City/County contract it was the board members, I think he was the one who begged them not to do it. He was not the one who voted to make the student to teacher ratio lower, that was done by the board. I think he was the one who warned the board that if they did this that teachers would be cut. He was not the one who voted not to raise the taxes some so that the district could meet its demands. That was done by the board against the recommendation by the assistant superintendent that if it was not met then there would be cuts. I don't know what you have against Tim for you to take personal attacks against him, but that was pretty low.
