  1. Kentucky Class 6A takes on Indianna in Week 0, who will prove superior? Can anyone beat Trinity this year? Is St. Xavier the team to knock the Shamrocks off? How far away is Male? Who will we see move after Week 0? Week 1?
  2. No shocker, Bowling Green is at the top, are they going to be dominate once again? Can Christian County surprise them? Is Covington Catholic going to play above their level while celebrating their 50th anniversary? Where's Highlands? Who could move into the Top 10? Who will fall?
  3. Can Johnson Central run the table for a repeat? Is Wayne County capable of knocking them off? Who is just outside the Top 10? Who may be ranked too high? What changes can we expect?
  4. Belfry looks to be the favorite once again, can anyone knock them off the top? Is Central where they belong? Can Corbin be the surprise of 2017? Who is just outside the Top10 and looking to get in? Who could drop early in the season?
  5. Who expected Mayfield to be ranked that low? Do they belong higher? Is Danville the team to beat in 2017? Can LCA prove they belong? Who has a chance to play their way into the Top 10? Who will drop after the season gets started?
  6. Is Beechwood and Hazard on another collision course? Or will Paintsville and Kentucky Country day able to upset the apple cart? Who is outside the Top 10 and waiting to prove they belong? Is anyone ranked too high? Too low?
  7. Class 6A It’s the Bluegrass vs. the Hoosiers to set the tone in Kentucky’s top tier. The Big 3 will each host a cross river foe. Trinity will draw the perennial large school super power Carmel Greyhounds in what will be one of Kentucky’s highest profile Interstate challenges. Ryle has high hopes as the NKY delegate in Class 6A, but any hope of competing will require a good showing against a very good Covington Catholic team. Ballard and DuPont Manual each will draw Title Contenders from lower classes as well, while both Lafayette and Simon Kenton will get their feet wet while sticking within the Class 6A ranks. 1. Trinity vs. Carmel (IN) 2. Saint Xavier vs. Cathedral (IN) 3. Male vs. Floyd Central (IN) 4. Scott County vs. 5A North Bullitt 5. Ryle at 5A #3 Covington Catholic 6. Lafayette vs. Bryan Station 7. Simon Kenton at Meade County 8. DuPont Manual vs. 3A #4 Central 9. Pleasure Ridge Park at 4A Valley 10. Ballard at 2A #4 DeSales
  8. Class 5A Is this the year that the “Great Purple Reign of Terror” comes to an end? The opportunity to make a statement will come early for Christian County and Covington Catholic against ranked foes from other classes. Bowling Green has their own fish to fry in 6A North Hardin. South Oldham may take issue with their ranking outside of the Top 5, despite a Semi-Finals appearance. However, if the Dragons want to earn immediate respect, a Week 0 meeting with the Class 2A State Champs will certainly be a nice feather for their cap. All told, half of the Top 10 will draw teams from the State’s largest classification. 1. Bowling Green vs. 6A North Hardin (8/19) at Western Kentucky University 2. Christian County at 3A #8 Caldwell County 3. Covington Catholic vs. 6A #5 Ryle 4. Owensboro at 4A Madisonville- North Hopkins 5. Fern Creek vs. 6A Seneca 6. Doss at 6A Jeffersontown 7. Greenwood at 4A Warren Central 8. South Oldham at 2A #2 Christian Academy- Louisville 9. Southwestern vs. Northwest (TN) 10. Dixie Heights at 6A Campbell County
  9. Class 4A The story line for Week 0 in Class 4A is how will the Class’ Top 10 fare against 5A. Of the eight teams beginning action, five will do battle with the next class higher, with the headliner being Hopkinsville challenging Brandon Smith’s South Warren squad. Franklin-Simpson and John Hardin both draw 3A teams with Title aspirations. Defending Champs Johnson Central will take the opportunity to scrimmage and scout. 1. Johnson Central -- OPEN 2. Wayne County vs. 5A Woodford County at Danville (8/19) 3. Collins vs. 5A Madison Southern at Madison Central (8/19) 4. Franklin-Simpson vs. 3A Elizabethtown 5. Ashland at 5A Harlan County (8/19) 6. John Hardin vs. 3A Boyle County at Mercer County (8/19) 7. Hopkinsville at 5A South Warren 8. Mercer County vs. Harrison County (8/19) 9. Rockcastle County -- OPEN 10. Shelby County at 5A Fairdale (8/19)
  10. Class 3A For the first time in a long while you can legitimately say that Class 3A appears to be a wide-open race. Though the reigning 4-time Champs will wait a week to show what they are bringing to the table, the rest of the Class 3A Top 10 opens in what might be the most exciting opening week this class has enjoyed in recent memory. Literally every game brings a story line or a marquee match-up. Probably the two most anticipated games will feature Central taking on perennially strong 6A Manual and Boyle County testing the progress of their youth against ever-athletic John Hardin. Western Hills is a bit of newcomer to Top 10 status and will immediately be asked to validate themselves against their County rival. 1. Belfry -- OPEN 2. Corbin at 5A Whitley County (8/19) 3. Elizabethtown at 4A #5 Franklin-Simpson 4. Central at 6A #8 DuPont Manual 5. Lexington Catholic at 6A Madison Central (8/19) 6. Boyle County vs. 4A #7 John Hardin at Mercer County (8/19) 7. Russell -- OPEN 8. Caldwell County vs. 5A #2 Christian County 9. Paducah Tilghman at 6A McCracken County (8/19) 10. Western Hills at 4A Franklin County
  11. Class 2A This is about to be a loaded top tier of Class 2A and the top contenders have no problem stepping up in Week 0 to begin an exciting season. Each of the Top 6 teams will play opponents capable of beating them with a few 6A foes and a Tennessee powerhouse among the lot. Walton-Verona and Glasgow both have questions to answer to validate their rankings and will each have a platform against solid season openers as well. 1. Danville vs. 6A Frederick Douglass (8/19) 2. Christian Academy- Louisville vs. 5A #8 South Oldham 3. Lexington Christian Academy vs. 3A Waggener (8/19) 4. DeSales vs. 6A #10 Ballard 5. Mayfield at Union City (TN) 6. Owensboro Catholic vs. 6A Daviess County 7. Newport Central Catholic at 4A Scott 8. Somerset vs. 4A Bourbon County at Lincoln County 9. Walton-Verona at 4A East Jessamine 10. Glasgow vs. 1A #7 Russellville
  12. Class 1A It has been said that when two freight trains are on a collision course you can see the tracks shaking between them. If this is true, expect to see the tracks shaking in Class 1A as both defending State Champion Beechwood and Runner-Up Hazard are loaded for bear and seemingly on a collision course. The two favorites will take it easy in Week 0 and then go full steam ahead in Week 1. Paintsville and Kentucky Country Day each have dreams of derailment and will begin their journey against schools from much larger classifications. Raceland and Russellville each draw tough openers, and Pikeville looks to put a frustrating off-season in their rear view with a reigning 2A Semi-Finalist. 1. Beechwood -- OPEN 2. Hazard -- OPEN 3. Paintsville at 3A Estill County 4. Kentucky Country Day at 5A Atherton 5. Williamsburg vs. Jellico (TN) 6. Raceland vs. 3A Lawrence County (8/19) 7. Russellville at 2A #10 Glasgow 8. Louisville Holy Cross vs. 5A Bullitt Central at Fairdale (8/19) 9. Pikeville vs. 2A Covington Holy Cross 10. Bracken County at Switzerland County (IN)

  14. To help keep Bluegrasspreps.com a great resource for high school sports and to allow all the members to be able to find the threads of interest, we need to post all game threads in a similar format. Please use the following format as a guide. All "final threads" must be titled in the exact format listed below, however we will allow some variation on "prediction threads". All "Update threads" should have the word "Update" in the title. Likewise, all scrimmage threads should have the word "Scrimmage" in the title. Scrimmage Games: Henderson County 21 Hopkinsville 14 (Scrimmage) or Henderson County/Hopkinsville (Scrimmage) - and then you would have to explain the results in the thread which is the case with most scrimmages. Pregame Prediction or Discussion Threads can follow any format but should include both teams names and be evident it is a discussion/prediction thread: Lone Oak vs. Owensboro Predictions or Lone Oak/Owensboro Predictions or Owensboro @ Lone Oak Predictions Update Threads: Lewis County/Mason County Updates Final Score Threads: Paris 14 Berea 7 Or for games involving out of state teams Trinity 38 Moeller (OH) 30 Covington Catholic 30 Bishop Chatard (IN) 7 We also encourage the posting of Final Scores for Freshman and JV games. Please use the following format for these games: Nicholas County 21 Morgan County 7 (JV) Or Lexington Catholic 14 Lexington Christian 7 (Frosh) Or for games involving out of state teams St. Xavier 35 Cathedral (IN) 28 (Frosh) Each "Prediction Thread" will be closed prior to the start of the game. All "Update Threads" will be closed once a final score is reported, then a "Final Thread" should be started.
  15. There's a lot of railroad tracks that separate the cities of Raceland and Worthington which make up the Raceland School District. It was the site of the CSX Rail Yard.
  16. I can tell you, when Aaron Pettrey played at Raceland he received big D1 offers as a kicker and small D1 offers as a QB. He obviously played QB and Kicker and was a very good WR his freshmen year. He was a very good high school QB and an excellent kicker at any level. Raceland won more games as a direct result of his kicking more so then his QB play. Not to say his QB skills didn't win games, but the kicking game was a true game changer. Opponents had to start all drives from their 20 and once Raceland crossed midfield they were in FG range. I enjoyed watching him play both positions, but I would have had no problem with him only kicking. It was that big of a deal.
  17. I never had one, diagnosed, or undiagnosed. In my experience, most concussions happen from the player's head striking the ground not from one player striking another. That is why I don't think most of the rule restrictions being implemented make much of a difference, unless they want to replace the field surface with foam.
  18. The block has to be "immediate" upon the snap. Any delay and there isn't a Free Blocking Zone.
  19. It's almost August and football games will be starting soon. Every football playing school in Kentucky now has a Team Thread in the Football Forum. If you have trouble finding a team that you wish to talk about, please use the Advanced Search option under the Quick Links tab located at the top of the page.
