  1. No, I don't think Guy turning Boyle down is good. If he had taken the job, then it could have been a great situation (provided he stayed there 5-7 years). Possible hinderances now: 1) Delaying the process - Boyle may have lost a couple of highly qualified coaches who have already been offered other jobs. :walk: 2) $ - Boyle may have "shown their hand" a bit and not have as much leverage where salary is concerned. :sssh: 3) Excitement - can/will the Boyle community be excited about "the coach we got because Guy Morriss declined' I dunno... just a few thoughts.
  2. Got ya! :thumb: I do recall who you mentioned earlier, and I too think that would be a great hire. I know the past week has been one of excitement and chaos, but like most have said... what a ride!
  3. Who are you referring to? Do you know if the Boyle Co. officials had/have a back up plan? Any light you could shed on this?
  4. Who are you referring to? Do you know if the Boyle officials had a back up plan? Thanks for any light you can shed on this subject.
  5. I heard Buddy Ryan was going to be the next head coach at Mercer Co!   Just kidding!!!!
  6. Only thing I can say is why was the superintendent so firm on his statements that the booster club wasn't involved, when now it 'appears' that they are? Obviously, I do not know this for a fact, but it looks like they are indeed involved. Hhmm. What next?
  7. I'm not totally surprised by this... any further details Super?
  8. I ditto MTNFAN. HATZ, these are merely my opinions and because I question something doesn't necessarily mean I'm being negative. I think if hiring Guy Morriss can bring excitement back to the program and benefit the kids then absolutely it's what needs to happen. I was just questioning the booster club's involvement. I suppose I can understand to some degree BC folks being defensive about this situation, but I assure you, Rebel and the others that I'm not taking jabs. And, if you're previewing previous posts I've made on other threads, remember what you told me, you're not from here so its none of your business! Lets not let a message post cause such harshness. Its all good.
  9. Well, a few posts back someone stated they just heard AGAIN, that this is now a 'done deal'. I thought you may know something factual as you implied all else were rumors. AND... I didn't initiate the fact that this whole situation is beginning to stink so take that somewhere else. Thanks!
  10. Well I'd love to hear some of the facts! :thumb: Please share. If any of the 'rumors' about the booster club kicking in big bucks are false, then how do you propose this will pan out?
  11. Who is the President of the booster club?
  12.   That's my point too!!:thumb:
  13. They can't! It is my understanding that the football booster club is tryinig to 'legally' become an independent contractor so that they can enter in to a 3 year contract with Morriss with a stipend of $60,000 a year. The school can't operate like that as stated by the superintendent in the latest amnews article. But he makes it very clear that he can't keep an employee from havng a 2nd or 3rd job, or prevent an employee from "working" with an independent contractor (in this case, the football boosters). I don't think this is fair or ethical, and I think it will send a terrible message to the other coaches, players, community, etc. I thought booster clubs raised money for the kids!! If not done correctly, I see this wonderful opportunity turning in to a nightmare for Boyle Co. Just my own opinion. And one last thought, for those who said money wasn't an issue, it is obvious now that it is.
  14. True, good point. However, maybe the scheduling of a press conference was a bit premature. It does make you wonder why you'd schedule a press conference unless you KNEW you would have something to announce.
  15. Ditto! By scheduling a news conference, one would 'assume' the Boyle Co. administration felt pretty darn confident that they would name Morriss as the head coach Friday (feeling confident Morriss would accept). IMO, Boyle could've/should've done a better job of keeping this particular applicant on the down low.:sssh: Has somebody in Boyle Co. been countin' chickens?!
  16. Wouldn't you think that he and his wife had already discussed it... I'm sure she knew he was coming to KY to talk with Boyle. I would also think he had a pretty good idea of what the 'package' would entail and discussed that with her also. I dunno... it may still happen I'm just a bit surprised.
  17. Don't quite know what to think of this, but for those of you who said this was a 'done deal' it appears maybe it isn't. Press conference "delayed".:sssh: Check it out: Advocate Messenger http://www.amnews.com/public_html/?module=displaystory&story_id=37485&format=html
  18. Now with the EKU job open, anyone think Guy could be persuaded by them to come coach the Colonels instead of the Rebels? Crazy how things change so quickly within just a 24 hour span!!
  19. That's my thinking too, but seems like everything you hear and read is that this isn't a 'done deal' just yet. And, I know you can't believe everything you hear, but if they are 'banking' on it and for some unforeseen reason he ends up declining... so much for the press conference, huh?!
  20. Question: If by some strange reason Guy decides not to take the job, do they have a 2nd choice already lined up, especially given the fact that the Boyle 'officials' have said there will be a press conference on Friday?
  21. What time and where? Is it safe to assume you know this as fact? And, if you do already know this, Morriss talked with Boyle today rather than what folks originally said about him meeting with them on Thursday.
  22. I don't mean the program itself is bad, just that the situation as it stands is not ideal at the present. Boyle Co. does have a football PROGRAM...from feeder programs, to good staff and players, etc. I'm talking more about the unrealist expectations from many (not all) of the Rebel fans. And when the heat is on, is the administration going to 'back' their coaches? That's what I'm getting at. Now, if Guy Morriss is the next Boyle Co. coach, I'd say he will definitely get 100% of support and 'backing' from the administration. And, I'd say at least 95% of total support from the Rebel football community (there's always a few)!! :thumb:
  23. I have a question for the Rebel Football faithful... If Guy Morris is indeed the next football coach at Boyle County, will you all be satisfied? I don't mean that sarcasticly at all, it is an honest question. IMO, it is going to take total support from community, parents, and administration for the next head coach to be successful! Even Guy Morris won't be able to turn the program around all by himself, he will need support. :thumb:
  24. Maybe Boyle did contact Chuck and try to lure him back, but its not gonna happen. Please folks... Let that ship sail!!!!! Move on with it over there in Rebel Land. Cherish what you had in the days of Chuck Smith, but get on with it. If Guy Morris is indeed the one they are to announce Friday as the new head coach I think this will help the Rebel faithful get a grip and start looking toward the future of Boyle Co. football and not their past.:thumb:
