JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - The City of Jonesboro took a direct hit Saturday evening from a tornado, that stayed on the ground for almost 20 miles.

As daylight begins to shine on the damage, emergency officials say there were 18 injuries, 2 were required to be hospitalized, and no casualties have been reported.

18 injured, 2 hospitilized, no casualties from Jonesboro tornado

Watching those videos, it’s amazing no one was killed. When will they determine category? Sometime today, I assume?

  2. Most of my family lives in Colorado. My brother got sent home from work today with a fever. My nephew (different household) got sent home from work with a cough and shortness of breath. My stepmom is an RN and has been on vacation the past two weeks. She goes back to work tomorrow and will be coming back home each day to my 77 year old father.

    I’m worried.

  3. I'm gonna have to say I don't like the tone coming from some of the media that is suggesting we relax distancing, so the economy can start back up.

Those that don't learn from history are destined to repeat it. After the first round of the 1918 flu, there was a second spike in infections and deaths once people let up their guard.

  4. Wondery just released a new series yesterday called "The Dating Game Killer." I'm not familiar with the story, but it looks really interesting. Additionally, Wondery usually puts out quality stuff. Looking forward to the listen.

I know the story well. Rodney Alcala. Straight up evil. I’ll add the podcast to my list. Always willing to learn more!

  5. I think so. His father is - or was, not sure which - an administrator in Carroll at the time. Before that, his father was boys' basketball coach at Trimble County. But the Oaks live in Oldham County.

Theoretically, he could have played on at Carroll due to his dad's employment, but his home district is Oldham County.

His father was a star at Oldham County in the 90s.

Didnt the Oak boy play varsity for Carroll County his 8th grade year?

Both of Deaton Oak’s parents are in administration at Carroll County. Doug is assistant superintendent and Dana is principal of the middle school. They were both standout athletes in college. They live in Oldham County.

  6. BBN87 - SORRY....I intended to click "likes" for your post and got lazy and inadvertently hit "dislike". My apologies - that was a "swing and a miss" on my part.

Agree wholeheartedly with your comments. OC's depth, which is second to none in the region this year, is a huge advantage. But it will only get tougher with each game - Oldham might not get away with a sloppy start like they had against Trimble in the rest of the tourney.

Count me in as voting for Trimble County to retire Webster's jersey. Great career in Bedford for this young man - and "career leading scorers" don't come along every day!!

CM, if you click on the dislike again, it will go away.

  7. Tonight the 34th District Semifinals will be played at Dixie Heights. The first game is (1)St. Henry vs. (4)Ludlow at 6pm. The second semifinal is (2)Lloyd vs. (3)Dixie at 7:45pm.

I see the Cru rolling to a 30+ point win over Ludlow, as they won the regular-season match-up 86-44. The second game is more interesting, but I expect Lloyd to win by 8-10 points as long as Cody is playing. The regular season match-up between them went to Lloyd 64-59 on the road.

Can Dixie pull off the upset?

Each game will need its own thread. I’m retitling this one for the current game.

  8. Good grief! I must've been wearing my old glasses again! I really messed up the dates, didn't I? Wow.

    For the record:

29th district dates above are correct

semi-finals on Tue 2/25 and Wed 2/26. Finals on Fri 2/28.

30th district dates above are correct

play in game on Mon 2/24

    semi-finals on Tue 2/25 and Wed 2/26

    finals on Fri 2/28

At least I got 2 of 4 districts right. .500 is pretty darn good in baseball... now for the ones I messed up.

    31st district

play in game at 7:30 on Monday 2/24 (Owen Co vs Eminence)

semi-final at 6 pm Wed 2/26 (Gallatin vs. Owen / Eminence winner)

semi-final at 7:30 pm Wed 2/26 (Carroll vs. Henry)

finals at 7:30 pm Saturday 2/29

    32nd district

semi-final Monday 2/24 Grant Co vs Williamstown 6 pm

    semi-final Tuesday 2/25 Simon Kenton vs. Walton-Verona 6 pm

    finals Friday 2/28 7 pm

I think that I corrected all of these in your original post. Please double check for me.

  9. I'm not a regular podcast listener, but I'll go through phases of listening to them. I really enjoyed the "Bardstown" podcast about the unsolved murders around Bardstown/Nelson County.

Malcolm Gladwell's "Revisionist History" podcast is great, and S1E3 "The Big Man Can't Shoot" episode is particularly awesome.

There's a podcast site called "Stories" that are a continuing series of stories about the history of Appalachia (mostly Eastern KY, West Virginia, Western VA, Eastern TN, and Western NC). They're usually pretty short, about 15 minutes a piece or so. Some of them are a little on the ho-hum side of things, but I've liked a lot of them. They did a pretty interesting 3-part installment on Daniel Boone.

If your into the outdoors and fishing/hunting, Steven Rinella's MeatEater podcast is great, although the installments can be a little on the lengthy side at roundabout 2 hours a piece. He's got a really great show on Netflix as well.

Bardstown was great. If you decide you want recommendations for a similar one, let me know.
