  1. Calloway should be the cream of the crop in D1, 4a this year...They return there QB, who put up some great #s last year..Look for them to run the majority of there plays from the shotgun formation and pass about 70% of the time...They have alot of returning starters back and this could well be one of there best teams ever...There defense was up and down last year and they'll need to be more consistent against the run..If they can shore that up a little, they could very well represent the west in the state this year..No doubt, they'll be able to put points on the board in bunches..

  2. Christian Co will be the most talented team in D1, with Bgreen again taking D2 with relative ease...Owensboro loses alot on the defensive side, where they were the strongest and HopTown will be improved from last year, but, still a far cry from the teams they had back in the late 90s...I'd say BG still takes the region, but, Christian Co will definately be a quality team, likely a Top 6-8 team in state in there class...

  3. My thought is that if CC does this, they'll be better, simply because the kids will get to play CCs style from the 3rd or 4th grade on. In addition, it may not draw a ton of kids there way, but, you can bet, it would draw 4-5 good, solid players a class, or 12-15 kids in the top 3 grades. That may not put them at the T and X stage, but, you have to believe 12-15 additional quality athletes would definately make them stronger and deeper and more competitive with the bigger and better programs. Then, if it is successful and the program does begin to show improvement, those #s will certainly grow and thus they'll continue to improve each year. This will not put Beechwood, Highlands, Ryle, NCC and the like out of business, by any means, but, it definately won't help them either..

  4. It would make a lot more sense geographically to switch Pineville and Jenkins from D7 and D8:

    * D7 (with the exception of Hazard) are schools that have US25E running through them -- that would include Pineville as well.

    * D8 is more of a true "far-eastern Ky." district -- Jenkins being in far northern Letcher Co. and about 30 minutes from Pikeville fits there much better than Pineville.

Thanks and noted...I'm really too unfamiliar with that part of the state to make a sound judgement on where some of these teams are actually located.

  5. The figures you saw were simply conjecture ... the school is yet to exist officially.

And HDE has always maintained the new school wouldn't be as big as Cawood, Evarts and Cumberland combined because some Letcher County kids that attended Cumberland probably wouldn't go to the new school because of travel considerations.

Gotcha...That makes a little more sense then...

  6. So, you're saying that in 1 year, Harlan Consolidated, with 733 boys as of 2007 is going to lose 69 students or 6 other schools are going to miraculously gain more than them.. The smallest 6a team(Bullitt Central) has a male enrollment of 664.. looks like they're squarely in 6a to me and by the way, if you look at the 6 class alignment in the KHSAA.org site, they agree and have Harlan in with these same 6a teams...

  7. Believe me, I don't want Harlan County to be in the biggest class, but I think freshstart is correct that Harlan County would be 5A in a five-class system. Harlan County's current enrollment would have a little over 1,200 students if the school opens tomorrow. That's one reason I'd prefer to keep it six classes.

According to KHSAA, even with 6 classes, Harlan would be in 6a...29th largest school in the state...

  8. Looks pretty good as a whole but like you mentioned geographically could be flawed in some areas. The highlighted would be the biggest. For example East Ridge in the highlighted area would be looking at two and a half to four hours worth of bus rides to every other team in that district.

Yes, I understand that..Marshall Co, in the west, would be in the same boat. 2 hrs to Henderson Co, 2 1/2 hrs to Daviess Co and over 3 hours to Meade..

  9. Several of those schools didn't compete in district play in 2006, but I think they all did in 2007. Last year, there were only two such schools, Berea and Evangel Christian in Louisville.

Thanks...I also noticed that Bishop Brossard shows up in 1a in Beechwoods district and they aren't anywhere to be found on the list of teams enrollment. Are they a new school or something? Are there any other teams like that?

  10. I noticed the KHSAA lists several teams as non competing teams, such as Clinton Co, Pendleton Co, Gallatin Co, Muhl North, Jackson Co, etc.. Then I see these teams being listed in certain districts.. Can someone explain to me exactly what the term non-compete means and does this mean they can't play in the playoffs and if any of these NC teams are now out of that status? Thanks in advance...

  11. Lose there top 2 players and weren't very deep to start with..Should be good enough to compete for 2nd in the district, but, won't be as good as last 2 yrs..If they were to get a couple of SFulton, Tn transfers, which is the rumor going around, they may be better than expected..

  12. Speed, speed and more speed...They have a ton of skill players back but lose alot of there line...If they can replace some interior people, I expect they'll again be in the hunt for a title...Excellent DBs and LBs...Will also have to find a QB, but, he won't have to be a big playmaker, just a smart player who'll not turn the ball over and get the ball in the right peoples hands...

  13. The 6 class system is okay I guess, but, it seems to water down the classes..Then you get back to 0-10 or 1-9 teams making the playoffs because of 4 team districts.. I thought the 4 class system was better..Just not enough teams in Ky to justify the 6.. If you want to expand, at least go to 5, not all the way to 6..I like the idea of limiting the # of teams in the largest class, because that seems to be where the biggest enrollment variances are..Cut 6a down to the biggest 20-24 teams and add any that prefer to play up and then divide the remaining teams up to 4 equal size classes..I do like the playoff system where you play your neighboring district teams instead of teams from your own district, in the 1st couple of rounds...

  14. I think the KHSAA made the right call on all counts...I don't think too many coaches, players, fans, wanted to see the 1st 2 rounds of the playoffs vs someone they've already played...I know the 6a format didn't do the same and I'm sure it had to do with Trinity and St X, deny it if you want..The way it plays out with there new system, is Trinity and St X could only meet in the finals 1 out of every 2 years.. The KHSAA can still have there Cash cow every other year and the other publics, who constantly complain about these 2, will, at least have a legit shot to make it to Louisville every other year, which is better than they have now.. I think this is the most logical solution they could have made at this point..

  15. Harlan County in a district with 3 Lexington area schools? Ain't gonna fly. I see them being 4A in your allignment.

They wouldn't be allowed to play down..Playing up is one thing, playing down is another..I think the solution to the problem would be easily fixed by adding 1 more team to the 5a class. The next biggest is Greenwood, which you could add in D1, place Meade Co in D2, move Shelby Co in with the Louisville schools, put Campbell Co in with the NKy schools as they would be the only 5 team district and Harlan would move into the East division with mad Central, Scott Co and GRC... That would seem to make more sense..

  16. I am not to sure about this change. Your asking several teams to make very long trips just to play district game. A specific class is in the 3A, look at D3 your asking Taylor to possibly travel to e-town. Again in 3A D7 the games with Garrard co., Bell co. ,and E. Ridge none of these are short trips. My last question is why does Somerset fall from 3A to 1A?

Enrollment is why Somerset would be a 1a team. They currently play up due to geographics..In the 6 class system, they are actually 2a size..There would be some teams who would naturally have to play up for geographic reasons. The current allignments on my opening post, is based on enrollment only.

  17. Graves returns several key linemen on both sides of the ball and there secondary looks to be pretty solid..These 2 areas will be the teams strength this year.. They do, however, lose there QB and top 2 RBs and WR, so, who'll be there playmakers is a big question mark and what type offense will they run..With alot of new faces, it's hard to know if they'll be a primarily between the tackles running team or will they have the ability to mix it up or the speed in backfield to be a little more flexible in the run game.. IMO, Graves will be a solid defensive team that'll have alot of low scoring, grind it out close games..If things go there way in these, they could be pretty good. If not, they could be very average but also a scary and misleading opponent come playoff time...

  18. 5A is jacked.

The placements of the Louisville districts is wrong, these make more sense:

    Manual, X, PRP, Butler

    Male, Senca, Southern, Fern Creek

    Trinity, Ballard, Eastern, Shelby Co.

I mean, Campbell County playing Louisville schools is crazy, but I understand you need one more team in the west.

One other solution is add 1 more team. The next in line would be Apollo. You could place them in D1, move Meade to D2 and then Shelby in with the Lville districts. With Apollo , they're in 4a, D2 with 6 teams, so, you could do that without having to make any other adjustments to the other classes. Campbell would then go in with NKy as the only 5 team district.

Basically, I pretty much threw the teams out there in louisville. Absolutely, there would be some changes. What I looked at here was primarily placing St X, Trinity and Male in 3 different districts and with Manual being a big rivalry with Male, kept them together and then I knew Ballard and Eastern were in with Trinity now, so, kept it that way. I really had no idea with Fern Creek, Southern, Butler, Seneca, etc. They could be switched to accomodate geographics, as needed.. I also agree with Campbell, just had to balance it is the reason I went there. It may be better to place Shelby there and possibly move Campbell to the East and Harlan in with NHardin, Nelson and CHardin. Thats a tough call. You don't want a 3 team district for sure..

  20. I think 3A looks fine with one exception and that being Knox Central and East Ridge should switch. Knox Central would be in with a lot of the current teams they share a district with plus East Ridge being in one district and Pike Central being in another wouldn't work.

    Good job doing this though.

Thanks and you're probably right..I had no idea where East Ridge was actually located..
