  1. Heard that score about end of third quarter of Trinity game
  2. Trinity using Conliffe at QB. Trinity intercepted pass and got 4 yard run. Score now 45-0. Clock is running. Henry Clay is crushing Paul Dunbar. Looks like Henry Clay at Trinity next week.
  3. Trinity scored on 17 yard pass on first play of 4th quarter. Score 38-0.
  4. Trinity scored with minute left in 3d quarter. Now 31-0
  5. Trinity now up 24-0 with Petrino pass. BC fumbled on 10 yard line to set up last TD.
  6. It might be the costs involved. To form a new league will require hiring officials in many sports. It may be easy in football but very difficult in other sports, such as soccer, cross country, track etc. Remember that if the privates leave the KHSAA the privates can not play the publics in any sport and cannot play any school in Tennessee. The second issue may be that teams from some other states may not be able to play the privates if the privates leave the KHSAA.
  7. Dear Guru, I, for one, do not blame the public schools for being upset that private schools are able to take students from any part of Kentucky. Private schools must take students from wherever they can get them. Trinity just increased its student body to 1400 students last year. I think the proposal will pass and Male, Highlands, Manual and many other public schools will reap the benefits. BUT the KHSAA is wrong if they think most of the private schools will stay in the KHSAA. Why would the private schools stay in the KHSAA? As long as the private schools in Kentucky can play private schools outside of Kentucky there would be no need to play the public schools. You must remember that private schools have "to be income producing" and are not able to exist unless tuition, alumni donations and sports revenues come through the doors. I think this proposal is a good one.
  8. Rockmom take a deep breath. If the KHSAA kicks the privates out of the state championship, the privates will have to make a decision: to accept the proposal or leave the KHSAA. Many may choose to leave the KHSAA. X and T would probably leave. X and T could give full scholarships to players. If the public school coaches believe that X and T has "recruited" wait until X and T can give full scholarships in football and basketball. Wouldn't it be better for X and T football? T would not have to play Southern, Oldham County, Eastern, Fern Creek or Seneca. Those games are usually miserable for both teams. X and T could play private schools only, with games against the Cincinnati schools, Dayton Chaminade, Nashville Montgomery Bell and so on. Marshall Field would be packed. I believe that all schools may be better off if the proposal is passed and the privates leave the KHSAA. There is no way that public schools(except for about 4 or 5 of them) can compete with X or T or Cov Cath in football.
  9. Knowing the alumni of X and T, the answer is yes. If X and T could give scholarships and recruit anywhere, they would. KHSAA better fear that pall private schools might leave the KHSAA and form their own league.
  10. If the KHSAA wants private schools to have their own playoffs, the private schools just may leave the KHSAA. Why not form a private school league? Scholarships could be given. No recruitman problems. X and T might become nationally ranked schools, playing teams from other states. Trinity could fill up their new stadium playing Dayton Chaminade or Cincinnati Moeller rather than Eastern or Oldham County. MAYBE the problem is that Xand T have gotten too good to play Kentucky schools in football any more. Male and Manual are the only Kentucky schools that usually have a chance to beat X or T. I agree that X and T have MANY advantages over the public schools in football. They have programs that produce 100 freshmen each year.
  11. Tennessee has more private schools than Kentucky. There are more football teams in the "top rung" in football in Tennesse, whereas Kentucky has just two schools. The provision will eliminate X and T from playing in the state tourney. WHO is going to be in the football tournament for private schools to compete with X and T? No one. So I go back to my original question. Why would private schools stay in the KHSAA rather than form a private school league?
  12. That is the present proposal being put to the KHSAA. Last year a majority of members voted for same but less than 2/3 did so. The proposal is to eliminate schools that give financial aid to students from playing in the state championship. There are several posts on this board discussing the issue. Public schools feel that it is unfair for private schools to take in students from all areas of the state. That is a legitimate advantage to private schools. Having gone to Trinity, I remember that we had students who drove in from LaGrange and downtown Louisville. The real problem is in football. X and T have about 1,400 boys. They have about 100 freshmen come out for football. The have access to the catholic grade school leagues. They have dedicated alumni who give money to the school, such that Trinity just built a new stadium. X's stadium is in the works. The only question is 4A football is whether some team but X and T will play in the state finals. I do not blame the public schools. Look at Oldham County last night. I do not think that Ballard, Eastern, Southern, Fern Creek or Shelby County will give T a test and players may get injured. I think the private school league is best way to go.
  13. The KHSAA is thinking of eliminating private schools from the state championships games? Why would private schools stay in the KHSAA? They could form a private school league? X and T could play Lex Catholic, Covington Catholic and maybe one more private school in football and have 3 or 4 out of state schools each year. The 3A private schools would give X and T better games than Oldham County, Southern or Iroquois. Then the private schools could give scholarships to needy, athletic students. In other sports there are plenty of private schools to play. Then everyone would be happy.
