  1. My list is certainly not "all inclusive" and my time lines probably do "blurr". You are absolutely right in adding Jeff Fischer to the list... Danny Sullivan ...alright add him too!! (CCHS made a big mistake letting him get away IMHO). Anybody else got additions???
  2. Highlands has a good one in the wings...Jay "Sparky" Draper can sling it with the best of 'em. Great mechanics, strong accurate arm, solid decision making. With an experienced O-line coming back and a bevy of running backs, Dale could put up big nimbers with Draper leading a diverse offensive package.
  3. I'm old school....Mike Listerman (and sidekick "Buster" Petty) of CCH are master motivators and demanding defensive stalwarts. plus, you have to go quite a ways to find two finer people as coaches! Elmer Faust of St. Henry was a great player and is just as fine of a coach. Willie Schlarman is resurrecting a recently downtrodden hoops program at HHS. (much like his brother is doing with Newport FB!)
  4. 'Birds off to a flying start...GOOD FOR THEM ! They have certainly taken some lumps in the past few seasons but look to have the makings of a team that can contend...FINALLY. There's no reason that HHS should not be in the mix for a regional crown EVERY season. Except for program mis-management...but I digress. Willie's got the ship righted and sailing strong. Keep the "feeder system" interested and HHS will be there every year.
  5. I thought the HEAD DIRECTOR was adopting Ark AND Josh Connor ??? :dancingpa
  6. Ludlow / Bellevue / Dayton = "River Rats" HHS = "Cake-eaters" CCHS = "Plowpushers" Newport / Holmes = "Hoods" NCC = "Studs" Boone Cty = "Cutters" Dixie Hts. = "Pixies" were all names used/heard from the 70's.
  7. Players from Highlands that standout: "back in da' day" (pre-Kenny Shields) - Paul "Puzzy" Pratt, Dave Druck, Dean Eckert, Tommy Fuldner, Jerry Wright, Chuck Visse, "Kenny Shields era" - Mark Wendel, Bob Muntis, Mike Vories. Scott Draud, Deron Blasingame, Bob Cowie, Derik Smith, Jared Lorenzen
  8. The NCC or NHS vs. HHS games were a tradition of the bygone era. I enjoy "needling" many friends of both Newport teams about victories over them an detest hearing about a certain goal line stand in 1974 that didn't go the 'Birds way. That's what makes for a good rivalry. Not to mention getting the bus "rocked" or a food fight or two at McDonald's!!
  9. What makes 'dem Wilcats Wild ????? Congrats to Coach Schlarmann, his staff, and most importantly the players. Great season...ROCK ONWARD!! As to the "incident" that happened after the game...it brought back memories of when we had to keep our helmets on and heads down when our bus left the stadium as we would get pummeled by rocks on the way out. 'Cat fans...win with class + lose with class...it'll make for a much better memory!
  10. ...+ the tribute shot for the STATE CHAMPION LADY BLUEBIRD SOCCER TEAM !!!!!! :dancingpa is that lucky 13 ???? BOOM!
  11. Why did FC quit throwing the ball and start trying to establish a" running game" at the beginning of the second half?? They were having real success with the short outs in the flat and a deep square in to # 12 was there all night long. It looked to me that the FC boyz were not nearly as in shape as the HHS boyz. I liked the fact that FC started early with onsides kicks/trick kickoffs. Their first one was a beauty that really caught the Birds off guard...luckily it trickled out of bounds. They recover the kick there and 12th man "Mo" would have definitely been on their side. They didn't...and as they say, "the rest is history". Too many teams come into Ft. Thomas as underdogs and wait untill they are buried before trying a "gimmick or two". Taking a risk or two early while still in the ball game is better than waiting until you're down 2-3 scores when it's predictable to try "junk". IMHO WAY TO BO BIG BLUE !!!
