  1. Isn't that what the current situation is? There are rules, they are enforced, and if you break one you are penalized.
  2. They are still recruited even if generation after generation has gone there. Someone has to send them registration material, they have to be informed of the mission of the school, they have to know when the placement test is, they have to receive class description summaries, they have to know what extra activites they can be part of, they have to know where to send those tuition payments, etc. That is all part of being recruited.
  3. Sorry BigZig. Nice try, but if Catholic schools did not actively recruit students no one would walk through the doors when they opened them on Monday mornings. EVERY student at a Catholic school is recruited.
  4. Catholic high schools in NKY DO have clearly designed parishes that they are allowed to actively recruit students from. So Holy Cross has certain parishes and St. Henry has certain parishes. However, that DOES NOT prevent parents/students from checking out schools on their own. And of course if the parent/student is not Catholic they too are free to attend any school they wish. If they make that choice, why should they be banned from Sports? Similarly a lifelong Ludlow family that has had three generations graduate from Ludlow moves to Covington, why should the student not be free to pay tuition and play sports at Ludlow?
  5. Actually fast pitch is such a pitcher dominated game that you only need one superior pitcher to become instantly competitive with the better teams. If you have a pitcher and someone who can catch behind the plate you really don't need that many hitters or fielders to be in most games. So small schools won't have a giant hill to climb if they have a pitcher.
  6. Ludlow does. Ludlow schools ran a really nice ad listing all the qualities of the school in the KY Post right on the Sports page.
  7. Why? Catholic school are not just for Catholic religion students. Anyone can attend. Some grade schools in urban areas have more non-Catholic students than Catholic students. It is just like any other private school.
  8. What if the kid is a really good swimmer? Should he go to Brossart or NCC where there is no swim team? What if a girl lives in Fort Thomas but her grandmother and mom went to Notre Dame and they want to send her to an all girls school? Does she have to go to NCC? What if a student lives in Latonia and her parents and two brothers went to Holy Cross and they move to Erlanger in the middle of her junior year? Is she supposed to transfer to St. Henry? What if a student lives in Highland Heights and has played football for Red Devils or in Ft. Thomas league for 5 years? Is he only allowed to go to Brossart where there isn't a team?
  9. It won't work because people do not want to be told what private school their kids must attend based on where they live or what parish they are a member of. I really don't think the Listermans should have been told they cannot attend CovCath where their Dad was a teacher and coach because they didn't live in CovCath's territory.
  10. Define "problem". I'd say there is a "problem" if there are 20 proposals brought forth to the voting body. Doesn't matter if they have no merit or all the merit in the world. That's a "problem" if schools feel (rightly or wrongly) that proposals are needed. Especially considering that two years ago a related proposal did not receive the necessary majority and now there this year there are several proposals similar after nothing last year. I'd say that is a "problem". After the proposal two years ago I think the emphais was, for lack of a better phrase, placed on "we have rules on the books so report and we will investigate all" to take care of "problems". That must not be a solution for some so hence there are proposals to address the "problems."
  11. Me thinks that if the 20 mile radius cures all, then this all wasn't about more state champions for public schools, it wasn't about more regional champions for public schools, it wasn't about so-called minor sports being dominated by private schools, it wasn't about Girls sports being dominated by private schools,...................it was about limiting Trinity, St.X, and LexCath. Basically nothing will change in NKY, nothing will change with the Louisville Girls schools. Most of the Christian schools will be largely uneffected especially sports-wise. And I believe as Trinity Alum has listed that it will not really resolve anything.
  12. Well that kind of a no-brainer for the Diocese of Covington since they most likely have 0 to maybe 10 students that live more than 20 miles from their school.
  13. Why, in this age of Title IX, doesn't someone give them a hardball and a mound? Virtually no difference between boys and girls soccer in high school, virtually no difference in track, virtually no difference in basketball, or volleyball or golf or cross country or swimming. Why?
  14. Understood. The CATS testing and expelled students hubbub are probably some reasons why some people prefer private schools. Believe it or not but some parents prefer a school where the principal can say to a student "Cut you hair, or don't bother coming back tomorrow."
  15. Private schools can expel a student for not conforming to the dress code.
  16. runningref made some very good points. The Girls sports comments you may have had to live through to believe but runningref is dead on.
  17. True. NCC was up 3-0 in the 4th quarter with 9 minutes left and would have had the ball near midfield after their return. And it wasn't even roughing the kicker, it was running into the kicker (which is worse in that situation IMO). It did not give Beechwood a first down but allowed them to go for a fourth and inches from near midfield which they easily made. Then they drove right in for the 7-3 score. Special teams has always been a Beechwood staple.
  18. Again I'll ask these questions: 1. Did this students parents pay tuition in LA? I'll assume they did, so the money exist somewhere. To make them pay again or account for the money at this time is a little silly is it not, considering the area of their house and school is not accessible? 2. All the other students who were allowed to play immediately are undoubtedly receiving free "benefits" such as housing, transportation, food, clothing by others unless they somehow they managed to pack up all their belongings before fleeing and then paid for housing here. Again either say no one can play or everyone can play.
  19. True but 20 miles from Taylor Mill probably covers all of Campbell Co from Alexandria to the river, almost all of Kenton Co. and Boone Co. population centers plus they do not have that many students total.
  20. For the NKY private schools a 20 mile radius would not mean anything. I doubt there are more than 10 total students from more than 20 miles away at all the Catholic schools combined and I can't imagine there are many at Calvary or Heritage. I guess there could be someone 20 miles south of Brossart or maybe at ND or CovCath but 20 miles from Park Hills goes pretty far.
  21. The point is try having a high school Girls team play regular season games in a gym other than the Boys team and you will be in Title IX trouble. Try playing the Boys games on Friday night always because they draw the biggest crowds and you will be in Title IX trouble. But come Sweet 16 time it is okay to shuffle the Girls off to another gym because they can't make money for the KHSAA playing at Rupp. If it is okay to do that then, why not let schools make money on regular season games too. If they truly believe in Title IX then let them put their wallet where their mouth is. Also notice that Friday nights don't seem to be a night Volleyball needs to play on...........hmmm is that because the KHSAA would never be stupid enough to mess with football?
  22. Well I'll go out on a very short limb and say the NKY district wins 3 of the 4 playoff games in the first round with LCA beating the NKY #4 seed. That leaves the #1 NKY seed hosting the #3 NKY seed (most likely Bellevue) while the #2 NKY seed goes to #1 LCA. So in essence Bellevue versus NCC or Beechwood will also be round 1 of 2 as they are very likely to meet again. And to further complicate things if Newport makes an anticipated run into the 2A playoffs NCC would have to play any home games on Saturdays after the field has been played on Friday night.
  23. Beechwood hosts NCC and will this just be another Round 1 or is it an important game to win? IMO neither team is as good as last year (when they were the two best teams in Class A) and both need to improve on some critical areas in order to make a deep post season run. In this match-up I'm leaning towards Beechwood because of the better ground game but I think both teams are still working at getting better. You could argue that playoff Home field is at stake but I don't see that as being all that huge.
  24. If I was a private school I would stay the first year and as soon as something wasn't fair or equal I'd haul out the lawyers. So if the public cross-country championships are held at the Horse Park then the private school championships better be held there too. Of course since the KHSAA doesn't bother to play the Girls Sweet 16 at Rupp but does the Boys they are probably pretty good at defending that already. Before anyone claims that the Boys tourney makes enough money to warrant Rupp try telling the KHSAA you make more money with boys playing on Friday and see what they say.
