  1. By Ivan Maisel (ESPN)

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=maisel_ivan&id=2662188

We live in the era of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry. It has everything: top rankings, great tradition, compelling backstories. The game Saturday will be the pinnacle of all that college football fans hold dear.

(And my employer, which will be televising it to an audience that will be as big as any regular-season game in recent memory. I know this because my wife wrote the game time down on the kitchen calendar so that she will remember to watch it. We're talking big Nielsens).

The Ohio State-Michigan rivalry has every element of a great college football rivalry but one, the one that means it will never be the greatest rivalry.

When the game is over, Ohio State fans will remain in Ohio and Michigan fans will return to Michigan.

In Alabama, the losing fans have to go to work on Monday and face their co-workers from the other side.

When you can never let your guard down, a rivalry is a 365-day affair.

The Iron Bowl engages more people in Alabama than any other event, sporting or otherwise, in the state. There is no NFL team, no major-league professional team of any kind. The state plans its life around the game.

In 49 states, Ohio State and Michigan will win the TV ratings. But when Auburn and Alabama meet at 3:30 on Saturday, you can book that no one in the state will know or care who wins at the Horseshoe.

  2. I was just listening to Lee Corso on Sirius radio on a college talk show I think Channel 122-123 for you Sirius listeners.

    He made some interesting statements.

    1) OSU has not played a team with a winning record since Sept.

    2) Also said other then Texas; OSU has not played a team that was very good all year.

    3) He also said he thought Michigan could run on OSU (giving up 3.3 yards per rush this season; 2.2 last year). However had better score in the red zone b/c OSU does a great job of holding teams to FG’s down there.

  3. CORRECTION, CORRECTION, CORRECTION!!!!!!!!!!

Southwestern Football Games are broadcast on Q97 Classic Hits WKEQ.

    97.1FM

I do agree with LTW those guys are fun to listen to. ;);) :thumb:

Looking forward to a great game tonight.

As I have said many times before; "THIS IS WHY GOD MADE FRIDAY NIGHTS!" :dancingpa :dancingpa :dancingpa :dancingpa :dancingpa[/quote

How did I get that wrong??:creepy:

  4. A thought I had driving to work this morning.

I am not a Big East fan or a UL fan however I want to raise a question.

For everyone talking about the Big East and how weak it is.

Let's take a peak at the Big Ten as well.

Louisville has or will play the same type schedule / conference that O$U and Michigan has and will play. Stay with me here for a min.

They are very similar very top heavy and weak at the bottom.

O$U has played a Texas team at the beginning of the season and will play Michigan at the end. Texas would play them much closer in game now then they did at the beginning. Other then those 2 teams who has OSU played? An overrated Iowa team, Defensively sound Cincy team (5-4), PSU (6-3) young and not real good, a Bowling Green team (4-5), Michigan State (4-5) we know the problems there, Indiana a young team on the raise but not there yet, A very bad Minn team (3-6), and they will play a bad (2-7) team Illinois, a bad (2-7) Northwestern Team, and finally the 2nd game of the Season in Michigan.

Louisville has played Kentucky (4-4) basketball season has started, Temple (1-8) HORRIBLE, Miami (5-3) probably one of the worst teams they have had in a while, Kansas State (5-4) don’t know much about them, Mid-Tennessee state (5-3) I heard a ESPN announcer say Play the real Tennessee team please, Defensively sound CIncy (5-4), weak Syracuse (3-6), of course WVU, and still play Rutgers, South Florida, Pittsburgh, and a bad UCONN team.

So basically OSU played a team at the beginning and a team at the end.

Louisville plays the teams all in November.

Just thinking about this and noticed how similar the two conferences are.

I have heard O$U fans talk about well “OSU has just played the schedule and can’t help it”. Well so has Louisville and both teams have won so far.

I guess my point is if OSU and Michigan should be up at the top based on the schedule they played, the conference they play in and their wins so should Louisville. Of course all 3 teams must win out and we know 1 of these teams have to lose.

Although I think if UF wins out they jump UL in the BCS whether they win out or not.

    Let the BCS talk begin.

  5. I didn't mean that you had done anything wrong 2000, I was just saying if they wanted to criticize me for bring up past teams that other people were doing it too. I can understand where you were coming from on that point, it was kind of a bizarre post you were responding to. Sometimes those Lions can be a pesky lot, perhaps you could use some D"DT" to get rid of them. ;)

Oh I know that and I was defending my reason for the post no harm done.

Now now don't be throwing names around.. I will have to get Mr. Kerr on you! haha

  6. I was not belittling anyone. What I said about the playoff results was completely true. An earlier SW poster pointed out that they had the state champion or runner-up in their district and that made it hard to advance in the playoffs. I was simply pointing out that it was not Boyle Co. that had been beating them in the playoffs but the teams from the other district. If you don't feel like any past teams or results are relevant there was a reference to a BASKETBALL game played 6 years ago by a SW poster so I wasn't the only one. I'm far from the only one to notice or point out SW's struggles in the playoffs. This is a different year and a different team but until one of their teams breaks through there will always be comparisons. I hope SW does make it to the regional finals or even wins it but until they do so I don't feel like their program is at the level that many people perceive it to be.

I post about a BASKETBALL game 6 years ago b/c a GCHS fan was talking about baseketball for some reason. He made a comment I didn't understand and I made reference to it with a fact.

  7. It does show you beating Garrard at Garrard that year but only 56-53--not quite a blowout. Back to the football game. How are SW's 2 injured players doing? I'm guessing they probably won't risk using them this week even if they could go but does it look like they can make it back for the 2nd round? I don't think they'll have any trouble against PC with or without them but I think they'll have to have at least one of them back to get past the Rebels (assuming they get by Marion which is not guaranteed).

Score is alot closer then game was trust me. JV played most of the 4th qtr.

    Anyway back to football...

SW will be fine without them. Some others must step up.

AverageJoesGym what kind of car do you drive a “ford” perhaps?

    EDIT:

Thanks Rebel for the comments you guys have a fine program over there. One thing I have noticed about the Boyle County community whether a Rebel or an AD fan people are happy for the other team.

Unlike most in Pulaski Co. Alot of the talk is just the Pulaski Co way. “Be little and/ or down others."

Instead of being happy for the community. I probably started something with this comment but truth hurts.

  8. GCHS may be referring to last year when the Warriors were defeated in the REGIONAL FINALS by Boyle Co. for a trip to the Sweet Sixteeen. SW was the 48th District Champs in Basketball last year. GCHS will have to clarify this.

Slink thanks for clearing that up......

I wasnt sure b/c I haven't heard about GCHS doing anything?

I do remember beating them in the 1999-2000 basketball season atGC.

They had a long home winning streak or something and got blown out of the gym.

Coming to the game Friday a SW?

  9. I was listening to 1460 out of Columbus, Ohio. Kirk (Herbie) is going off on the radio about the local fans doubting the sec and basically telling them to go see a game at an sec stadium before running their mouth. Not that it really pertains to this thread but thought it was funny he was saying it on an OSU station.

  10. Adam White from Southwestern. The kid is probably one of the most athletic kids to ever come thru SW and that is saying a lot. He has a ton of potential and ability.

He can run, throw, make people miss, and out run people he is the whole show. As long as he continues to get better and grow he will be a star.

Can play any spot on the field and play it well. Just needs some confidence, and experience.
