  1. I remember reading the same comments about a MAC team the last time they came to UK and UK got their butts kicked. Central has a very nice Offense. They would of beat BC if it hadn't been for a stupid trick play they tried to run. I wouldn't write a W next to UK's name just yet.

  2. You're right LTW it is right at 500 yards, (not 700)about 240 for Danville and 260 for Somerset. The problem is the number of big plays, Danville's yardage (and 4 tds) came on only 9 completions (almost 27 yards a completion) and on all 4 of Cole's tds except 1 he was behind the secondary and really didn't have to break any tackles or anything. They did manage to keep Somerset in front of them more as Cole's 15 catches show (and if Somerset throws it short any team will have a hard time limiting Coles catches) they just have to do better on the deep ball.

SW is a big, physical team and their running game was very impressive. Were it not for the 2 early turnovers I think they would have beaten Somerset by 2-3 touchdowns. However, I don't quite think their are as good as their preseason rating yet. You can't give up 8 tds through the air to two class 1A teams (no matter where they're ranked) and expect to be considered a top ten 3A football team. The good thing about that is they've got the next 8 games to get that straightened out--and I hope they do. I'd like to see them get the monkey off their backs come playoff time and win the region--I think Boyle is vunerable this year--if SW can stop the pass I think they can make it to at least the semi-state.

PS:I had this on an earlier post but what is wrong with SW's kicking game. Is someone hurt or are there just no true kickers in this age group. I know it seems like a lot of teams use soccer players for kickers anymore so a lot of the football only kids don't really learn how to do it.

The kickers have not had proper amount of practice days to play in a game.

The new kicker who alot will know from the basketball court is Jonathan Edwards. He can flat out kick a football.

  3. IMO SW is in a no win situation other then the score board when it comes to playing SHS.

If they win then they should of won, if they lose they lost to a class A team, if they play them tough then they aren't as good as they are supposed to be.

A WIN IS A WIN IS A WIN. SHS always plays SW tough as history points out.

SW came out flat case closed. SW is as good as advertised and will show it thru out the season.

Good luck to SHS as they have a great football player at WR.

  4. I will agree with you on one thing about the 99 situation, I don't think it had anything to do with Coach Anderson not wanting to play Somerset. Southwestern always plays quality opponents and I've said on BGP several times that I hope with the reduction in the number of district games starting next year that Somerset will schedule both county schools each year, the excitement and gates from those gains are good for all of the programs. As for how things would have went in 99 I guess we'll never know. Somerset didn't bring home a 1A title that year but I wouldn't say that a regional title doesn't mean squat, its something neither of the county schools has ever won.

    Agree on most....

    It's gameday!!

  5. Somerset is 6-3 against SW all time. That is a 2-1 margin 19-7 in county games, they aren't paper champions--they have been dominant against the bigger county schools. I assure you they were not afraid of SW in 99. That year they added a district game so they had one less game to schedule non-district. They were in a district with Danville, Campbellsville, Harrodsburg and Metcalfe Co. Of those 4, 3 were ranked in the preseason top 5 of 1A. Somerset was coming off of a 4-7 season and except for 1 team played all 2 or 3A teams in their pre-district schedule. As I said SW and PC should beat Somerset 3/4 or better of the time according to their numbers and the number of D-1 players produced--it just hasn't worked out that way. Just like all those college players haven't been able to get SW past the 2nd round of the playoffs. Do I think Somerset will win tonight, no really I don't but then again they shouldn't have a chance most years but they've managed to more than hold their own over the years.

With all Due Respect to SHS, your post, and you. With the Record against SW, and all the stats you threw out. Whatever the reason was why SHS wouldn’t play us in 1999. I mean all the rumors and talk ( I know you didnt say anything about that, but I have heard talk for 6 years now) about Coach a not wanting to play SHS... Well that’s a load of crap. SW plays the toughest SCH of any school in the county year in and year out. He has never turned down a chance to play a top notch team. (Danville, Boyle (Non-district years), Trinity, Highlands, Glasgow etc....) No one will know the true reason why the bash in 1999 didn’t go down oh well I am over it. We got our game that same year although in Basketball. We stomped SHS twice by 20 + including the District title game but lets compare apples to apples here.... Yeah SHS made it to Semi-state, and we lost to BE in the 1st round (heard it a 1000 times I know I played I was there) However SHS came home to Somerset with the same thing we left SW with the night we lost to BE. A LOSS. Just b/c you made it farther doesn’t mean squat. Just delayed the Inevitable….

Somerset is/has been a great program for many years.

SW has been a great program for about 12 years now. # Of D1 players or size of the school really means nothing to me. If a team is ready to play a team is ready to play regardless of size.

That being said hope tonight is a great game and good luck to both teams.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  6. OK, you guys win.. The d line was perfect.. No need for improvement...

Never once said that. In fact I'm pretty sure I said " I know Coach Girdler was happy with his guys on the D-line. They can always improve no doubt about that as can any team"

Everyone can improve always...I was just saying what I saw D-ville run the most of all night. The Orbit Sweep, and the stretch play.

  7. Cammando said SW both side of the lines need work. I thought both sides of the lines played well for both teams' date=' didn't really understand the comments[/quote']

Would have to agree with you on that one. I dont see where that came from either. Both lines played well I thought ESP SW since they started 5 new guys. The film from Sunday didnt lie, according to all I have talked to they seemed very pleased with the Lines on O and D. I know Coach Girdler was happy with his guys on the D-line. They can always improve no doubt about that as can any team.

  8. Mike Jones from Southwestern is getting some looks from UL, Vandy, and several smaller schools...

This kid can play. If he can get better with his Mechanics (Looking off Receivers ETC...) and learn to read the Defense better at line he can be a sleeper. Has a good group of WR to throw to, with a little blocking up front, and a good running game should produce some solid numbers.

  9. Well obviously Dustin not hitting his first 3 until 2:49 to go in the 4th shows Fatigue. However I think it had more to do with not coming out of the game, which was due to not having proper depth more then it did having to guard the big man. Now don't get me wrong that didn't help that he was on him the whole game. Dustin was out of position down there with him, and he had to play out of position all year due to ZERO size.

Boyle County knew SW was going to be tired, and took chances by going zone on them. It worked b/c SW couldn't hit the ocean with a tennis ball on Sat night.

I did think the Officials had some effect on the game b/c it seemed to me and (I could be wrong) It seem on more then one occasion if the arrow was going to Boyle it would be a jump ball, but if it was SW ball in a tie up then they called a foul and those can change games...Now you can say Oh well you are just blaming the refs for a loss...... No I am not. I am saying that is what I saw, and I have played sports all my life. The fact that SW took the ball down low with a big man and only got to the free throw line I think 2-3 times in the 2nd half, raises my eyes brows some b/c Boyle is a physical team.

However the lack of an inside game, and not being able to hit shots to get Boyle out of the Zone killed them.

  10. Yes, it was a very good game. Sw gets some shots to fall in the 1st qtr and Boyle doesnt get out to such a big lead the game might have been different.

Dustin F not hitting his 1st 3 until about 3 mins to go in the 4th tells you how well SW shot the rock.

Great season by the Warriors! Sorry to see Dustin F's career end I have watched that kid grow since he was a ball boy when I played.

Good luck to Boyle at Rupp!!!

Come tourney time you need to be able to run 1/2 court sets.

SW got beat on the 1/2 court offense tonight because they didnt have any.

Boyles 3-2 zone killed them and SW Not hitting a 3 or any shot for that matter didn't help. As I said in a another thread if SW gets locked into a 1/2 court game they will lose, and thats what happen tonight.

THe Refs were HORRIBLE Both ways. They shouldnt be allowed back in a gym ever!!!
