  1. This is probably going to fall into the "master of the obvious" category, but as long as Mike Brown is involved with this franchise (which will be until he's called to the great beyond) they will always be underestaffed and mediocre at best. Just enough success to keep the seats filled, skyboxes sold, and the NFL off his behind!!

How many family members make up his "staff", and their qualifications (other than blood type) are what........?? Plus he's got Lippencott as chief of scouting still I believe, and he couldn't get a high school head job when PB hired him. One of the laughing stocks of the league, until it comes to their balance sheet!!!!

  2. And who pray tell pays the rental fee to Dixie for the use of their field, Ryle, the KHSAA, I don't think so? A field is a field as long as it is playable, and at the moment, the Ryle field is unplayable and the turf at CovCath is playable.....Of course Dixie could let CovCath and Ryle play on their field for free, but I don't think that will happen not with the cost to build the complex footed by the taxpayers of Kenton County. Just my two cents.

Any word if they're going forward with the game today?

Also, OldGuy is the ND/SK girl's game still on for Wilder today?

  3. Tyshawn Edmondson, is a very talented player on this team also. I knew Hopson verballed to Miss. St., but not sure if he signed.

Only saw them play a couple games at the "A" last year, but I was very impressed with Edmundson. Another great UHA athlete, but one who played good basketball as well. Hopson gets all the ink, and I've heard he played well on the summer circuit; but Edmundson seemed the more polished "basketball player" in the games I saw. When Brossart's "D" totally shut down Hopson & Langhi in the "A" semis, Tyshawn kept them in the game for quite a while. Is Langhi back or was he a senior? I'd expect that UHA, along with Bardstown, June Buchanan and maybe Elliott County will be the favorites in the All "A" this year??

  4. I'll slightly disagree in that what will put Brossart on the way isn't being a viable alternative. That might help but that isn't the main source.

The main source to getting better in football is to get the kids wearing soccer cleats to wear football cleats, to get the kids wearing a baseball cap to wear a helmet too, to get the kids running up and down the court shooting jumpers in October to be running from sideline to sideline making tackles in October.

In other words, the talent is there already it just needs to add football to the mix. Sure it will hurt the other school sports, but football is it in NKY.

There's no doubt that you've hit on something here and that will be an ongoing challenge. Obviously Brossart has had success in most sports far beyond their size and classification, so the athletes must be wandering around the halls. One problem the current team has is timing, as the Mustangs have just had two of the most athleticly gifted classes in school history graduate in '05 and '07. Had football started a few years ago those classes could have provided some serious football players!! Not to say the cupboard is bare, but certainly not as full as recent years.

BB has always had a rich tradition of athletes participating in multiple sports, and good cooperation between the coaching staffs. They will as you say, need to start convincing some of these kids to include football in their schedules!! It will come, and it will help as some of the incoming younger kids may have some youth football experience. The hoops and baseball programs in particluar will need to start providing some football players, and undoubtably soccer may suffer along the way. Time will tell, but I would suspect it won't take forever; and football may soon be a popular option for Brossart athletes!!

  5. If Beechwood did not pull their starters then Yes that would IMO be running up the score. I didn't get to see the Beechwood or Dayton game so that is why I asked.

I also understand that a "very inexperienced team" will have these growing pains and hope that other teams remember that they are a "very inexperienced team" and look for ways not to run the score up.;)

The Beechies pulled their starters mid-first half, and played their 2nd and 3rd strings liberally for most of the last three quarters. They also scored at least 3 TD's on interceptions returned for TD's if I remember correctly. It was 69-0 at the half, so they didn't exactly push it further in the 2nd half either. As bad as it was, I'm not sure how you hold the score down short of telling your kids not to try; and nobody wins in that situation.

I can only recall one of the lopsided games this year where the winning team's starters were still playing deep into the fourth quarter; so all in all teams have played it pretty straight up with the fledgling Mustangs. You've heard no complaints on here from any BB faithful about teams running up the score. Every sane fan knew it would be a long year, and that it will take a few years to start to become competitive with established programs that have long traditions and very active youth programs!! To think otherwise is just unrealistic, and once again my thanks to the current players & coaches as they pave the way for what's sure to be better times in the future!!!! :thumb:

  6. The school is public.

They have a GREAT Field, just off the Verona exit.

Never been to the field, but it looks good from the X-Way. I understand they've scheduled Brossart next year, so I'm assuming I'll see it then. How old is their team? Good luck to them in their new venture.

  7. I'm not sure either because the state doesn't list the male enrollment. For Track purposes there are only 5 schools listed larger than Brossart and Beechwood is significantly behind Brossart. Which means if 1A and 2A both go to 37-38 teams they would be right on the bubble. But that is using co-ed data.

Their schedule is fine for now. The district games will always be difficult.

Looking at the new three class track numbers BB is listed at a two year average of 404, with 34 class 1 schools larger than them all the way up to Shelby Valley at 594. Beechwood was listed significantly smaller at 318.5, but seeing the football number (boys) of 170something must have some extra boys? Probably stud football players?? :D

I used the football numbers and estimated BB's!!

  9. Is there a possibility that Brossart will be placed 2A after next year?

I know they are one of the largest 1A schools and by my calculations there are 43 1A schools and only 33 2A currently. That happened because there are 1A schools who chose not to compete in a district and the state playoffs.

Add in Walton Verona which starts play next year and that makes 44. If any of the schools currently not playing in districts decides to compete in a district after next year that basically forces a team to get bumped to 2A. I'm guessing here but I would expect some schools that found they could not be competitive in a district in the 4 class system may find that they can in the 6 class system (mainly because you only have 3 or 4 district games) and jump back into class 1A.

Of course there are other things like consolidations, new schools opening, new teams, dropped teams, etc. that will effect the total numbers of teams and thus the division of teams into classes.

Not sure of the KHSAA's official numbers for Brossart, but the school currently is around 400 (co-ed 9-12), with a few more girls than boys. I'd guess they are in the 180-185 boys range, which would put at least ten schools ahead of them in class A, and another 4-5 in that 180 range, including Beechwood who many thought would make the move to 2A originally. Doubtful there would be enough movement to cause a boost to 2A for several years, although I'd expect them to upgrade their non-district schedule once they can field a competitive team. "Playing the best to be the best" has worked for them in their other sports!!

  10. You make good points but I don't know.............

6A: Like you said dominated by Louisville schools and this seems to be about an average year for NKY 6A schools when compared to the top teams in 6A.

5A: Highlands obviously a pretty good team, but not a whole lot behind them. CovCath injuries/inexperience and Dixie has stood out. Overall, a good year not a great year. I realize HH and CC are playing up but if they weren't HH would be at the top of 3A. CC and Dixie would not be at the top of 4A or 5A.

    4A: No teams

    3A: No teams

2A: NewCath looks on track to make a run and looks better than last year at this point. Two tough tests in the next two weeks. Actually kind of disappointed in the other NKY 2A teams as I thought they would be better overall.

1A: Beechwood obviously a pretty good team, and Dayton is having a very nice season for a 1A team. Thought Bellevue and Ludlow would be closer to Beechwood than what they've shown in district and out of district.

I guess I think its an average to maybe slightly above average year overall to this point but IMO not the best NKY year ever when compared to the rest of the state.

Absolutely no arguement that NKY overall has had better years, especially when NCC and BW were right at the top of 1A, CCH and Highlands up top in 3A, and the 4A schools closer to the Louisville powerhouses.

My question was however, is the best overall football in the state being played in NKY this year?? What area, if any, is playing better overall football, top to bottom--This year??

  11. It's more embarrassing to the team to take a knee on the 10. Bring in your subs and run the ball. Schulte had the entire game to work on that play. Left the field covering my face before the game was over. Biggest in your face I've ever seen in person.

Might have been CCH's last chance for glory until the playoffs, as their last two will be against Ohio teams including # 2 in the nation??

  12. This may be a bit premature as there's a couple weeks left before the playoffs, but is the "overall" best football in the state being played this year in NKY?? I'm talking all classes, and across the board, not just big schools?? Obviously Trinity and X are going to dominate the top 10 in the state, along with several of their Louisville and Lexington big school brethren. When you compare the potential for several state champs, and the impressive overall ratings by some of the 6A teams; along with top 20-25 ranked 2A and 1A teams, its a pretty good story!!

As I look over tonight's games and look at the various ratings, it appears this may be true. Just a few things to consider:

**Teams ranked # 1 in three of the four classes where they're represented, with basically no entries in classes 3 & 4!!

**Overall 5 teams in the top 25 in Cantrell and 5 in the Litkenhous top 20, despite most of them be compared to much larger schools!!

**Impressive overall record versus the rest of the state!!

Again, I'm thinking across the board, not just number of top 10 teams in the state; and consider for the most part there's no "middle sized" teams in NKY that haven't chosen to "play up"??
