1. They lost 8 seniors which comprised their starters and top 3 reserves, so I have to agree that it would appear to be a rebuilding year, not a reloading one. Most small schools go through this phase, and the Mustangs happen to have been blessed with two of their more talented classes in the '05 and '07 bunches.

I suspect they will be a work in progress, and improve as the year goes on. The schedule remains about the same with the notable exception of opting out of the 5/3rd, to gain some experience playing at Deming, where the All "A" regionals will be played. They graduated three 6'5" seniors, so they'll be a little vertically challenged. I'd guess they will run a little more, and still play agressive "D".

  2. This is getting pretty silly!! A team goes 0-10 in their first varsity season, with very few penalties along the way, particularily those of the over agressive nature; and in the last game of the season you are accusing them of playing dirty?????? Not one person the entire year accused them of anything, and suddenly they get cheap in the last game???? Weak!!!!

While we're slinging accusations--Classy move by the coaching staff after the interception with about 1:30 to go (up 31-6), bringing the starting QB back in after he'd been out and trying to throw for a TD?? Good move taking him back out, and running the ball the last two plays; although they tried the hurry up to score on the last play but couldn't get the play off. Also weak!!!!

  3. Are you serious? The kid that got tossed should have because he started the whole thing. Gallatin's player made a tackle and got up, then he got drilled.

They couldn't get the kid down until about 3-4 ended up doing so at the two, and he took offense at something that happened in the pile. And there were two unsportsmanlike penalties on GC on that play why??

  4. Actually 13 years, but this was written by my son who was playing and has played football for 13 years. I did not see alot myself, but he said it was really bad on the field with cheap hits after the plays etc...

Watched the game as well and didn't see much either. Guessing from your statements that your son doesn't play for BB, as their entire team might total 13 years playing experience (when did he start, at birth :D)?? Are you trying to say that one of the least penalized 0-10 teams in history, suddenly decided to get dirty in their last game??

The one incident in the entire game came late, and it was obvious who started that situation; and as usual the retaliating guy got tossed, after responding to some cheapies in the pile. Wisely the Gallatin staff got the offenders out so they could play next week. Veteran officiating crew and a one sided game, so doubtful they would let much happen.

  5. The curtain fell on the Brossart Mustangs' first varsity football season as the Gallatin County Wildcats scored once each in the first three quarters, opening up a 24-0 lead before the Mustangs scored a third quarter touchdown, making it a 24-6 football game. The Mustangs, who hadn't scored in their last two football games, were penalized twice for excessive celebration when the entire team stormed the field. Our long-distance PAT effort was no good.

An "icing on the cake" fourth quarter touchdown by the Wildcats made the final score 31-6, dooming the Brossart Mustangs to a winless 0-10 season.

Jared Carlton, the Junior runningback for the Cats scored the first three Gallatin County touchdowns.

While we are very disappointed for our team (Brossart) and the coaching staff - we are certainly not disappointed with them.

Our team graduates seven seniors. The remaining football Mustangs who do not play a winter sport will start preparation for the 2008 season on the Monday after Thanksgiving when the team reports to begin weight training.

Forty-Five players reported on the first day of practice and forty-five players were on the sidelines when the final horn sounded here on the last day of the Mustangs 2007 Football season.

See you again in '08, now on to hoops season!

Pretty remarkable statistic for a fledgling program, facing the adversity these kids faced week after week!! Good testament to the character of the kids and coaches.

Best of luck to Gallatin next week in the playoffs!!

To the Mustang seniors--Hold your heads high; you've helped pave the way for the future--You won't be forgotten!!

  6. Simply ridiculous that virtually everybody makes the playoffs!! States like Texas, Florida, etc. have 1000+ high schools and have six classes. Ohio has around 700 I believe and doesn't have six classes. To have 216 or whatever and crown six champions is absurd--Not far from "Give everyone a trophy days"!! And people complain about the All "A" titles (1 out of appx. 125) not being legit championships......................??????

  7. Why dont we just change the name of the thread to " Tell why you hate mason county" it would be a little more fitting. more than half of the post on here are either riticuling the school system or defending it.

Mason's got a great hoops program, good academics, the best HS facility in the state (nothing tops the 10th region tourney), and will win the 10th this year!! They're a fine school with a great basketball tradition and it's not surprizing a kid or two moves in occasionally to become a part of that?? Happens all the time in the state (public & private)--See football!!

  8.

Read my post carefully, I said according to state testing, they are the highest scoring school. Did Brossart outscore Mason on the testing?:D

And again, according to the state testing, they are the best academic school. Did Brossart again rank higher than them on the state testing?

% of graduates going to college has as much to do with the family IF NOT MORE than the school. Not an accurate judge, IMHO.
LBBC--I don't believe I said ANYTHING about Brossart, their test scores, etc.; although I suspect they would rank higher than most in those catagories?? I simply asked if you had a list of the scores to back your point?? I thought saying Mason was unequivocally the top academic school in the 10th was a little bit disrespectful to the rest of the schools, and probably inaccurate as well-That' all!! If you can prove me wrong, being an educator and all; please feel free to do so!!

Regarding the bolded quote, I totally disagree; as the public give-aways have totally leveled the playing field, and kids that want to go to college can do so, and probably get a good portion payed for by some grant, scholarship, loan, etc. And for the record Brossart is not exactly a "wealthy" school where all the kids are "silver-spooned" into college!!

  9. Wow--Dixie on a serious roll and the Camels going in the opposite direction?? Thought that Campbell had found their offense, but it appears not and that will apparently send them back to Boone, where they've already been handed a 28-0 loss. Good time to get hot for the Colonels and the opposite for the Camels--Dixie/CovCath should be a battle next week, as I think that's how it plays out in 5-A??

Surprizingly no comments from the Camels faithful again?? You guys need to rally around your team--NCC and Dixie are no slouches and its no time to give up on this team!!

  10. Mason County IS one of the highest performing high schools in the state on the state testing. I would safely guess they are the HIGHEST performing school in the 10th region. So academically and according to the state testing, they are one of the best if not the best educational opportunity in the 10th region.
I might respectfully argue this statement--Have you seen the test numbers? % of graduates going to college? Graduating from college? There might be a few schools able to dispute this statement!!

  11. Its my understanding the the high school season has very little impact on one's ability to get a D1 scholarship. Its all about the club season. Most talented v-ballers would choose the club season over the high school season if they were limited to only one of the two.

Good point, but I still don't find it very remarkable that the better volleyball players in the Louisville area gravitate to the premier program in the state, run by the coach of one of the premier club teams in the nation??
