  1. So you would support this scenario.

    Freshman: Play at Western Hills

    Sophomore: Play at Lex Cath

    Junior: Play at Boyle County

    Senior: Play at Trinity

    Home address: Harrodsburg, KY

Yes. I believe its up to the family to decide the road the kid wants to take.

Now do I believe the kid would be very successful in transferring 4 times. No, but why should there be rules to stop it? They can do it at the college level.

I think the number of kids transferring more than once during their time in high school would be very small. Yes there would be some. But not enough to make a difference.

  2. I do not know the transfer rules so it would be unfair for me to try to answer that part of the question. I do think think if you can benefit the kid without the benefit of a program for "recruiting" than I am all for it. If Wandale has more and better opportunities by playing somewhere other than Western Hills why wouldn't we support that?

I do think KHSAA tries to support kids best they can. Why else would you let the top 4 teams per district compete in post season play? It is a participation medal. And the fact the KHSAA has let it go on this long only reiterates giving kids as many experiences possible for high school kids.

When I speak of transfer rule not benefiting kids. I believe that a kid shouldn't have to change their address to change schools. I think a kid should have a freedom to choose to play and go to school wherever they want as long as the school they want to transfer to will allow them in.

No adult has to change address to change coaching jobs. So why should kids have to move to better themselves.

  3. In general, I am ok with transfers. However, I don't think it should be too easy. The KHSAA rule is pretty good. It is the seeming uneven enforcement and lack of transparency in their decisions that bother me.

I don't think it should be a total free for all transfer rule. Students already have the freedom to go to any school they want, up to the time you play varsity minutes for a high school. If you make it too easy to transfer, it invites tampering, recruiting and every other negative aspect. It allows for kids and parents to get upset on a whim and just leave. It pulls the rug from under the coaches and forces them to cater to the whining. I see a lot of bad consequences of there being no transfer rule. Let kids transfer, but make it a chore they have to work hard to get.

VOR generally I agree with you on a lot of issues.

My question to you is why does it have to be tough? We can’t kids have freedom to do what’s best for them.

Give you example- Logan Woodside recently completed a great careeer at Toledo. He was at a high school and was told he wouldn’t be given a shot to play QB. He didn’t want an adult to decide his faith. (Coaches) so he transferred to a school that needed a QB and went on to earn a D1 scholarship.

Another example was Holt Hammons at Frankfort. Played at another school. Knew he wouldn’t get a shot at QB. Came to Frankfort and had to sit out first 6 games of his Junior season because he held an extra point in a blow out win. He was punished by the KHSAA because he played 1 play. How does these rules the KHSAA have in place benefit kids?

They don’t - only protect schools. KHSAA could careless about kids.

  4. The KHSAA transfer rule only benefits coaches and schools. It only hurts student athletes. I believe sports is part of the entire education process. So why should kids not be able to transfer without having to be punished.

If a kid wants to transfer because they see an opportunity to play then theybshould be able too. Maybe the coaching staff isn’t who a kid wants to play for. Then why should they suffer?

I say let a kid transfer. Rule I would put in place is.... place you are enrolled in on August 1 is where you play for that year. So a kid could transfer 3 times during his high school time.

Everyone butt hurt over transfers should look in the mirror at why kids want to leave. I have seen schools and coaches go above and beyond on trying to block kids from getting cleared to play. In the end only kids suffer.

  5. Jones is a reflection of the head coach. The coaching staff allowed him to behave that way all game. Lost game press conference Stoops discussed the need to coach him more. That statement is laughable. How about punishing the young man.

Stoops can recruit. But sucks a developing players. They have peaked Stoops should have won 10 games this season.
