  1. I would prefer the word elective over extracurricular. Extracurricular denotes an afterschool club. Elective would/could be taught during the day and students could receive credit.

And btw, I could see a good opportunity to teach some science and math with this curriculum. Teach them to load their own shells, I would guess, would include science and math skills.

Teaching them to aim at long distance targets could teach them some physics skills.

And if there is ever an accident, don't forget the great opportunity for biology instruction.

  2. It's easy to say "It was just a cartoon (or joke)" if it's not targeted at you or or something you put a lot of time and energy into. If it is targeted at your interests it can be very offensive and provoke ill feelings, even if only meant to be funny. (Ask Don Imus)

As the parent of a current LexCath football player, I can tell you this cartoon is not funny in the least.

Did LexCath commit violations? Yes (5 years ago)

Was LexCath punished for those violations? Yes ($31,000 plus other punishments including forfeit of football wins over 3 seasons)

Since the violations LexCath has cleaned up its house. The administrator involved with the violations is gone. There is a stance of doing things the best possible way within the rules. In fact, LexCath was ready to institute prop2 a year before it was due to go into effect and this was communicated to all incoming freshmen. The insinuation that LexCath is standing in line to purchase championships with something other than the hard work and dedication of its students, coaches, administrators and parents is an affront to everyone involved. This could be the reason Coach Letton was so upset.

I may go against many of my fellow private school supporters, but I place much of the blame for this kind of attack squarely on the shoulders of the LCA administrators. After LexCath's violations and subsequent punishment, they should have examined the sources of their own students' funding and cleaned up any improprieties. If that had happened we would not be having this discussion.

    As I posted earlier........

The real outrage are for the parents who pony up tens of thousands of dollars to both of these schools for something more over public education. If I was one of those parents you bet I would be screaming at the school leadership. The decisions of the athletic interests in the school overrode the mission statements of the school (and they still have a job).

  3. And with all these points how in the world do you explain his decline? It can be well noted I advocated him as a strong posibility many, many months ago. However, if you do not want to think the extreme activism of the Christian right in the efforts in Iowa have not turned off other PRIMARY voters, well, you can see the results for yourself.

He makes positions that are solid and I agree with. I strongly considered him and I became turned off by his activism to his faith commentary. As a preacher, great. As commander in chief, not that important to me.

This strategy worked for the Bushes, it is failing him and I think he would be better than W but the card(s) of faith base appeal does not and will not play in the current voter interest. He has lost and he is done. Sad, but that is the reality.

  4. That is where you are grossly mistaken. He has been campaigning that way. The only coverage he gets from the media that has painted him as only a religious candidate is on Sunday.

As I mentioned in another thread. He has proposed a Fair Tax System WEEKS/MONTHS ago. Did that get any coverage like when Rudy G proposed his tax system? No. Has there been any debate on the national media about a Fair Tax System although Huckabee is continually talking about it on the stump speeches? No.

He is much more than just a Sunday morning candidate. Unfortunately, the national media who determines what view the people see of a candidate is determined to paint him as a certain type of candidate.

Another example of this is the message that Hillary won Nevada. Electoral votes and not popular votes are what determine the candidate. Obama left Nevada with more electoral votes than Hillary. He won the state in the area that counted. But is that the message being sent out?

Yeah, Fox News, Limbaugh, others are all part of national media bias to narrow in the presentation. Ok. Sure. And as for reporting and sound bites, why then does he give them the material to use? Speech after speech he has to say something. Oh, I guess his own website is filtered by outside media?

  5. ...make the blanket statements about how widespread recruiting is in public schools

    ...how J-town got off lightly

...how Morrow decided to accept the penalty so that he wouldn't face a harsher penalty if appealed to the BOC.

    I'll be waiting.

J-Town coach punished for illegal recruiting of a player at another school

I guess the Highlands posts of a couple of years ago don't count?

All are guilty of the actions found and the one consistent to all the actions is the penalties are weak.

  6. This was not done by LCA to encourage or recruit players to their program. These students were already receiving Church scholarships before playing high school athletics. LCA was unaware that this was illegal once they suddenly became a high school athlete. LCA would never knowingly let students receive funds from anyone, if they knew it were breaking rules. Coaches/PLayers are punished for a simple curseword slip, do you really think they would knowingly cheat ? Believe me, this is not the way that this Christain Institution works. It is ran to the best ability possible through glorifying Jesus Christ.

    Are you serious???

  7. The administration and coaches in no way went against the mission statement, at LCA. There was no intentional offerings/recruitment to any player of any sport. Kids that had been getting church scholarships to attend LCA since before entering high school and then continuing to get those scholarships once playing sports is what LCA is being punished for. LCA did nothing intentional nor was any program in the athletic department ever recruiting. I am not saying that no private school recruits in this state, but LCA does not-whether you believe or not. The administration and coaches there would not go outside of their mission statement for anything.

    God Bless.

You are right. They simply agree to donate 13,000 to KHSAA, accept the sanctions and change their procedures and sell their version in a full page ad. They did nothing wrong.:rolleyes::lol:

  8. LCA and Lexington Catholic both broke the rules (whether intentional or not)...are they immune to ridicule?

The best post on the cartoon. Cartoons are ridicule, humor, satire. If the posts of many are accepted ...this is about the kids, not adults, then accept the cartoon. It mocks the coaches (adults) who experienced punishments by the KHSAA for the very thing being mocked.

The real outrage are for the parents who pony up tens of thousands of dollars to both of these schools for something more over public education. If I was one of those parents you bet I would be screaming at the school leadership. The decisions of the athletic interests in the school overrode the mission statements of the school (and they still have a job:thumb:).

The coaches at LCA and Lex Cath that were involved in these past problems deserve the fate and the ridicule. They let the kids down. There is nothing wrong in pointing that out because they expect a fair amount of committment in return to their programs from players and the families. It is a two way street on matters of conduct.

It is a cartoon and I wonder how we all would post if the cartoon was showing the KHSAA as spineless and leadership weak?

  9. I know a coach who did not get one but should have. It confused the ref. Coach asked ref if he saw the movie "Forget Paris", a Billy Crystal movie where he plays the part of a ref. The ref said no, did not see it. The coach said you remind me of Billy Crystal and the acting job he did in that movie.:thumb:

  10. Not sure about the year, but I think it was Dan Sullivan's last year at Campbell County. Camels were at Pendleton County and not getting any calls. I think Sullivan gets a T in the first half. All coaches are to ride the bench. Then in the second half Gross gets a techincal, and to top it all off offical makes a terrible call in the last minutes of the game and Ballinger tosses his clip board in the air. There goes T number 3 and Sullivan is ejected due to assistants. I think all the coaches were sent out except the JV coach that was not on the bench. The JV coach finishes the game and has to coach the next game with the Freshman coach.

The same year a total of 15 coach ejections for the season?

  11. Great to see the Old Guard of Campbell County is out in full force. This coach had a problem. He was not in the fold of the athletic crowd. It is a joke to send this coach walking but still keep the girls basketball coach. I wonder if one of the mothers on the team who is a teacher in the system stabbed the coach in the back. She has a history of that.

  12. I don't attend a lot of the volleyball games' date=' but I do attend basketball games and Coach Cravens is a fine coach. I don't believe you should be comparing the performance of two different sports when deciding on getting rid of or retaining a coach. Coach Cravens is put into the most undesirable of spots of playing the best of the 9th and the best of the 10th almost nightly. Him and his staff always have the team prepared to be competitive and ready to play. If, which it seems, you have a personal problem with Coach Cravens don't come on here whining about it.[/quote']

So posters should only post positive thoughts on this site? Great, I wonder when it will shut down due to lack of activity. If the poster has an issue to comment about the coach, why would you suggest he or she not post? I always wonder why it is OK to call to task the 1)lack of effort of student athletes, 2) lack of dedication of student athletes, 3) the prima donna problems of student athletes, etc. but suggesting something less than great for a coach is not warranted? Uh, OK, sure.:creepy::sleep:

  13. Probably because he, more than any other candidate, is playing the religion card as a reason to support him. It is undeniably a, maybe the, reason he is asking people to vote for him. Isn't it a major reason you are supporting him? It sure seems so based on your posts on here. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

    EXACTLY!

I like many of his points but am getting very tired of the religion play. Some in his crowd is starting to go over the top. In the long run he will be defeated by this if it does not change.

  14. Where does this sense of entitlement come from for the games to be at Mason? It is good for the region and Montgomery has a new place to show. What is wrong with that? Mason has done and did a great job and will continue to do so but others who step up to the plate will get a turn at the tournament. In a short time the tournament will be played in Highland Heights and seating will not be a problem.
