  1. The best Freshman in the state may be Cole Sturgeon at Owensboro Catholic. He won 5 varsity games on the mound last year as an 8th grader for OHS. He beat Owensboro Catholic in the first game of the district last season and enrolled in high school there this season. He will be their starting centerfielder and will be in their rotation. He is the real deal.

  2. You are right 90% of a childs character is built at home. All it takes is that 10% of being around an individual with negative behaviors to take a lifetime of work and throw it down the drain. These kids deserve a TRUE role model and person to teach them the game but more importantly teach to make right decisions. A coach that curses if front of a child of any age doesn't deserve to be a coach. They have no respaect for the kids or for what the parents have attempted to install in their children from day one.

What about when society and others give a student an option or a reason to commit adultry, for example contraceptives. I mean here we are talking about cussing being our moral decay and we have schools teaching how to use contraceptives. Again we give kids a reason and an excuse. The comment I hear is "well they are going to do it anyway." IT IS WRONG. IT SAYS IT IN THE BIBLE. ALSO it says you shall not take the Lord's name in vain. Doesn't talk about other words.

  3. Would "Be Quiet" be okay?

NO. They will continue to talk. I think it is rude when you do tell someone to "be quiet" and they continue to talk. I don't know about you but when my parents told me to shut up I shut my mouth. If I continued then I got smacked or a spanking. I can honestly say I am glad they did because I have respect and obey my superiors. I will tell you that their boss' will tell them to shut up and if they don't like it then they better find another job. See we are not getting these kids ready for life. Keep giving them excuses and let's don't make them tough. Let's make them soft and weak and have more reasons why they need to see a doctor for nothing.

I THINK PEOPLE NEED TO GROW UP!!! and quit whipping their kids butt when they are 17 years old. If so then take the car keys away.

  4. I think that is the reason why kids don't listen to that refrain. A person comes off as hypocritical to the kids so they pay little to no attention to them.

Kids will CONTINUALLY model your actions rather than your words whether you are a coach, teacher or parent.

SOME KIDS ARE GOING TO TEST YOU NO MATTER WHAT. IF THAT IS THE CASE YOU MUST NOT HAVE ANY BAD KIDS IN YOUR CLASS. I WILL TELL YOU ANOTHER THING TOO. THE EDUCATION SYSTEM GIVES KIDS EXCUSES WHICH MAKES THE TEACHER IN THE WRONG ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT. THIS IS WHAT MAKES ME SICK IS WHEN A STUDENT WHINES AND THE COUNSELOR, WHO IS SUPPOSE TO BE AN EXPERT, TELLS THE TEACHER THAT THEY MUST MEET THE NEEDS OF THIS CHILD. WELL I KNOW ONE THING YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE. THE MORE EXCUSES WE GIVE THEM THE WORSE SOCIETY WILL BECOME.

  5. Top 5 Coaches:

    1. Mueller-Highlands

    2. Beatty- Trinity

    3. Redman- Male

    4. Schneider- NCC

    5. Haywood- Belfry

Honorable Mention: Harp- Danville, Hilton-Bell, McGlone-Russell, Downs- Bardstown, Glaser- St. X, Holcomb- Breathitt, Roark-Middlesboro, Larkey-Rockcastle, Morris- Mayfield

Now in terms of young coaches who will be there one day:

Edge- Owensboro Catholic, Matney-Johnson Central, French-Lincoln Co., Hager- Sheldon Clark, Simpson- Henry Clay

This is Edge's 3rd year as a head coach. These other guys aren't as young as him are they. French and Simpson will be up there sooner.

  6. I agree, and under that philosophy, Redman isn't all that great of a coach. He has not maximized the potential he has had at Male. Running one coverage defensively never maximizes your potential, IMO.

How many rings does this guy have? I will admit he is not as good a Mueller, but he is top 5 easily.

  7. All right we know all these schools have more people and what not, but bottom line you have to play these guys. The Khsaa says you have to then you have to. Your team has to play the game of their lives to beat them, but strange things have happened in the KHSAA 2-A playoffs before. IF a team is fortunate enough to beat them then WOW. That will be a game people will talk about for the Ages.

I know our Catholic team lost in the championship, which to me was a big upset for Russell and one they will talk about forever, but our Ft.Campbell Region Championship and the Corbin in 2004 will be one we talk about forever. This is the what makes this stuff exciting to watch. Yes, my beloved Aces aren't that great this year, but they weren't in 2004 and the coaches took alot of chances because they had nothing to lose.

All I am saying is the Mercer County having more people is just part of it and the KHSAA whether we like it or not allowed them to do this. EVEN and I hope we make it this far, EVEN if Catholic gets a shot with them I hope Catholic can pull off another miracle upset.

  8. Gary Morris at Russell. His stock went way up after the Devils defensive performance over O'Cath at Papa John's last December.:thumb:

Coach Edge gave him alot of credit in the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer paper that game. I do remember reading his name somewhere I guess that is where I read it.

  9. That region has too many ups and downs to see any one clear cut favorite. On paper I would give it to Ft. Campbell as I am still not a big believer in Caldwell County...but have to give them credit for how they have turned it on under first year head coach David Barnes. But Caldwell County I feel like will not be able to be a cold weather team in a few weeks when it is cold and blistery outside. Trigg is up and down and I think this weeks game against Lone Oak will tell the tale if the Wildcats can get things turned around or if they will be a one and done in the playoffs. Have not seen Ft. Campbell play but feel like they will be the team left standing out of the region.

Ft. Campbell is not a cold weather team either. Cramps against Catholic showed me that they are not a cold weather team. I guess nobody in District 1 are cold weather teams. So I will go with either Monroe or Catholic winning the region.

  10. Potential Rematches of Interest in 2A Alone:

-Sheldon Clark vs. Pburg, Pburg won first time

-Belfry vs. SC, SC won first game

-Breathitt vs. Middlesboro, Middlesboro won first in shootout

-Larue County vs. Western, Western won first game

-Corbin vs. Wayne Co., Corbin won close game

    -Fort Campbell vs. Monroe County

I think it is O'Cath vs. Monroe.

  11. That probably why OHS lost their opener against Mater Dei, they were already looking ahead to Henderson.

They didn't block a punt against Catholic. They ran a kickoff and punt return back and scored on a fake punt. Hey Special Teams count for points too. They beat Henderson by playing good D and Special Teams.

  12. David was average in size, strength, etc. What he did do was to play as he was coached. That's why he and O'Cath were successful. My point is, the qb in this type of system doesn't have to be superhuman, an average quarterback with average receivers and runningbacks behind an average line can run this offense and be successful.

I thought Woodward did a great job for Catholic all year. The Championship game was probably his worst performance. Anyway you are right an average QB that got better because he did what he was suppose to do.

  13. That player was Frank Brown. I can name names i guess he is a part of my families extended family. He can still throw a heck of a pass at a family reunion.

    NFL game

When the Broncos and Chiefs played. I think one hit was on Monday night Steve Atwater hit Christian Okoye. That hit changed Christian Okoye life. He never was the same. It wasn't the greatest hit of all time, but I think it was memorable. There are so many hits. I mean Ronnie Lott had some good Monday night hits. THe hit on Anotnio Freemen against the Vikings have to rank up there. Just watch you just got "JACKED UP" every Sunday night.

I think that Jefferson at RIdgemont High had a hitting clinic for the Lincoln High School for smashing his car.

Don't forget the "Water Boy" either.

  14. Yea but they are claiming such a turn around from week #1 that I hated to hold the Mayfield loss against them ;)

Actually it was a type O

On the other side of the coin I think I was most disappointed with O Caths slow start out of the gate, Hancock Co I thought would be better, Murray is weaker than I could have ever imagined though I knew they would be weak and Trigg and FT C have been weaker than I expected but not greatly so

I say O'Cath start has been slow, but they started slow two years ago and went to the championship. They lost a district game and happen to go 6-4. You never know come playoff time and if you look at their playoff record the last two or three years they are 11-3. I think Catholic is missing the two inside backers more then anything. Those kids we the lifeline of the team last year. Those two players weren't that great in 2004 either so who knows what Catholic will do. Hopefully they will turn it around. Ft.Campbell was expected to be down after losing a slew of athletes as well as Trigg Co.

One thing I have noticed is the fans being upset with Coach Edge. Here is a guy that went out and got money from a family member and others to get the stadium going, and been to two state championships and parents are still upset. I know he is an in your face guy, but I have watched him when he coached at OHS hmm went to state championship that year. As been head coach for two years and has been to the finals every year. He has been coaching like that for 7 years. Here is when you know he is right, when the past players respect him and still come and see him and calls him coach still.

  15. I think it's pretty funny that you only included the BIG 4, so to speak.. What BIG 4 may that be?...I don't think any of the "BIG 4" have had enough success to warrent the name...Westerns never even been to a championship, much less won one...Russell won last year, but, certainly 1 year doesn't warrent it, Mercer Co has no past tradition or success at all to justify it. Belfry probably warrents the name more than the rest, but, I could name a dozen teams who've accomplished as much the past 3-4 years and certainly ones who've done it alot longer....

You act as if one of these teams is a lock to win it...We may as well tell Caldwell, Ft Campbell, Oboro Cath, Trigg Co, Middlesboro, Breathitt, Larue, Sheldon Clark and others, not to bother playing the games...

    Just 4 Fun-

Don't worry the teams people on this site talk about winning the championship never win. Including us at O'Cath. One week we were favored to win a game and that was the Russell game and we lost. Ft. Campbell and Belfry were favored in 2005 and Breathitt and E-town were favored in 2004 neither one made it. Trust me Mercer County should win it all, but they will find a way to blow it. Look for Caldwell county to leave Region 1.

  16. What's really funny is your insinuation that O-Cath was the better team. Yes, O-Cath did have success running the ball that day because the defense was dropping 8 and covering the pass first. Might not have stopped Kamuf, but certainly stopped your team from getting the trophy and the rings ...:fire:

Yes it did. If Catholic couldn't get a first down I would say you stopped them. Again Russell won and earned it.

  17. First of all, each of these guys run basically the same offense. Tony's system is his system because he took that added some stuff, took some out, etc., just like each coach. Now, Tony is smart, he saw a need, offered something that met the need, obviously, HUNDREDS of coaches believe in it. I guess each coach could market it themselves showing their tweaks and the same people who bought tony's stuff would buy theirs too. That is how coaches are...looking for one more extra thing. I know that Hatch is doing it, don't know why Leach isn't doing it, and I never understood why Mumme doesn't do it.

A couple of other points, FAST defensive people can destroy any offense; and I'm just curious, why would you call Tony and Rush "crooks"? That's some strong stuff...

Better call Chuck Klausing a thief he took the wing-t and made it better. I think TOny made this offense better. Got beat by Nebraska, but took Flordia State and GA Tech to the wire. Scored points on two great defenses. Fast people don't matter on defense. YOu got to make plays. Look at Catholic and Ft.Campbell or Trigg. Catholic has slower players and still beat these teams. It seems when Catholic is making plays and the QB is in a rythm they win if not then they have to run the ball and play D.

  18. Belfry beat Tony's system..back to back...E-town in 2003 and O-boro Cath in 2004.

Don't get me wrong..that style is very exciting. You're going to score alot of points and win alot of games. But you still got to have a defense...and more times than not...to win championships...you've got to be able to run the football.

Neither E-town nor O-boro Cath could effectively run the football...and defensively they couldn't stop Belfry's running game......

IMO, you've got to be able to churn out yards via the ground game...especially at the HS level.

That's funny OCath had 173 yards rushing against Russell and the Kamuf kid had 123 with 16 carries. I think their D couldn't stop anybody that day.
