  1. I'd like to nomintae Phillip Haywood for pretty much the same reasons.

It seems win a team hasn't had a good year in a while and then finally "breakout" everyone wants to nominate the guy for coach of the year. Maybe the coach is a great coach, and maybe he is deserving, or maybe there just happened to be an exceptional number of athletes that finally matured into good football players.

My point is that guys like McGlone, Hilton, Yeagle, Haywood, Redman, Harp, Schneider, etc., consistently put great football teams on the field. Year in and year out any of these guys are serious contenders for a COY award.

Then I have to nominate John Edge at Catholic. He has been a head coach for 3 years and has won. 2 State Runners-Up and 3 Semi-States. The only thing he doesn't have on these guys is a title. This year has a tough schedule. Some think their teams have a tough schedule, but Look at this:

Evansville Reitz IN 5-0 (5-A) Ranked #2 in IN

    Owensboro 5-0 (5-A) Ranked #4

South Spencer IN 3-2 (2-A) Ranked 10 in 2-A IN

    Apollo 2-2 (6-A)

    Hancock Co. 1-3 (2-A)

    Todd Co. 1-3 (2-A)

    Warren East 5-0 (4-A) Ranked #3 in 4-A

    Ft. Campbell 3-2 (2-A) Ranked #7 in 2-A ( I think)

    Madisonville 4-1 (6-A)

    Daviess Co. 3-2 (6-A)

  2. Griffiths at Green County certainly merits consideration. Jeff Robbins at Marion County has taken a perennial doormat and turned them into an undefeated and feared opponent in two seasons.

Russell has a great coach. I remeber the year he beat Catholic. Look up the schedule to see how tough it was. Total combined record for all schools they have played is 4-15. Two of those schools are winless. I also looked up some other teams and their record might be 5-0 but is was against not so good competition.

Catholic is 3-2 but the two teams they got beat by Evansville Reitz 5-A in IN is 5-0 and ranked #2 and Catholic got beat by Owensboro 5-A #4 in KY. After that they beat a South Spencer team 3-2 Apollo 2-2 and Hancock 1-3.

  3. Master you can probably disregard GREEN NATION's post he is a Owensboro Catholic person and is just jealous that we played them and never had to punt the ball and beat them easily. LOL just kidding GREEN! Good Luck to the Aces now that you guys can start playing in your district and not playing all the 5A and 6A schools. You know you have lost to 2 teams that are still undefeated in Evansville Reitz, in which they are just awesome that QB is going to be time and also The Red Devils who are also 5-0 well maybe until this weekend.

Yeah that's why I said they have a hard time outscoring good teams, we are not a good team yet! LOL!

  4. Orca1, since you was at the Boone County, Eastern game in 2002, what can you tell me about Joe Prince offense than? I mean, was it good, bad, what?

Joe Prince is not a good offensive coach. He has really good athletes at OHS but his play calling is something to be desired. OHS scores alot on special teams and defensive turn overs. Take care of the ball and they have a hard time outscoring good teams.

  5. again the catholic offense was slow out of the gate. they should have put up more than 34 points

Catholic should had at least 40pts. I will say this I wouldnt call scoring on your first drive the last 4 games coming slow out the gate I think they come out fast and put it on cruise to much. Edge will fix it. He always does and then playoff time both sides of the ball will be playing as great. I have to give some big kudos to their D-Cordinator Coach Huff :thumb: . Last year everyone wanted him dead, now he has the defense playing aggressive and not giving up the big play. When Walker finally gets 100% he will create some problems for teams.

  6. To me it's a combination of both. Results count a lot for me. I think Tilghman is a top-10 team, but until they start winning I can't in good conscious rank them.

Not busting everyone's bubble. From top to bottom of schedules Catholic has a better overall schedule then any of the teams in the top 10. They have won against good opponents and they have lost to even better opponents. Placing them #5 is a joke, but I guess Catholic will have to show eveyone in week 8 when Ft.Campbell comes to Owensboro Catholic. I think Trigg should remain up there. Mayfield is Mayfield.Ft.Campbell or Catholic will knock one or the other off the top 3 after week 8.:thumb:

  7. Is it fair to say the OCath is down a bit this season?

DOWN? Hell they scrimmaged Bowling Green to 35-21 game and played Evansville Reitz and got beat 40-6. Hell if OHS played a good early schedule like Catholic does then I think you would say OHS is down a bit this year. Who did OHS scrimmage? Does anyone know? I just know that they played a Memorial team that was not good.

  8. I think Owensboro has had very good players the past couple of years, I am just not sold on Prince's coaching. There is no way Henderson was better the Owensboro last year but yet once again OHS couldn't get it done in the playoffs. OHS should thump Henderson this year but that is only because the talent level is way too tilted in OHS's direction. I think OHS probably has the talent to make it to the box this year but I think the coaching will get in the way.

OHS would of been beat by Reitz. So would of Apollo and Daviess County.

  9. I dropped Catholic from #4 to #5, mainly because Mayfield is a little better than I expected.

I didn't understand why Owensboro played Memorial and Owensboro Catholic played Reitz ... the matchups would have made more sense if the Owensboro schools had switched opponents.

I know why... Catholic had this game scheduled before the bowl game originated from the 4 coaches in Owensboro. The game fell in the right time. OHS had to drop Mater Dei because of the KY schedules moving up a week. So OHS had to find an opponent it was Memorial. Reitz will play OHS next year and Memorial plays OCHS next year.

I did not go to the OHS game, but someone told me they went to the game and was not impressed with OHS. They believed the same outcome would of happened to OHS as it happened to OCHS.

  10. Bowling Green is a fine, fine team, and that sounds like a great tuneup for Boyle and X. But I think OC is ranked to highly by BGP. They have been virtually whitewashed the last few times they have played stiff competition, without even giving them a game (a la Mercer Co. playoff). I could be wrong, but these scores just seem too lopsided.

I watched the game and I have got to tell you I did not see nearly half the Catholic plays they run I saw them run maybe 6 plays the whole night. Mayber they were holding something back or just breaking in their 3rd QB this season. I don't know, but Catholic looked like they could run the ball at will against BG. IF this is the case I think BG will see lopsided scores against Boyle and Trinity. Unfortunately it won't be in the favor of BG. Don't get me wrong though BG will be good, but not the BG of old. A final note BG offense came ready to play and will have to carry this team this whole season.

  11. Those that follow the Lexington Horsemen may know who Reitz's coach is, John Hart who coaches the Evansville Blue Cats. Or should I say did coach the Evansville Blue Cats. Hart has built one of the best programs in Southern Indiana. There were in 5A but are going to 4A this year. Reitz is a team I have wanted Henderson to pick up for a long time. Catholic will have thier hands full. Reitz is very well coached and usually doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

This is exactly what Catholic wants someone good. Not a slappy. I am so glad Edge beefed up the schedule and made it hard. This game will help Catholic later in the playoffs.

  12. Congratulations to Owensboro Catholic on wiinig the 2007 All a State Championship.

Game 1 O Cath 6 Danville 5 in 9 innings I think. This game started Sat. and Danville was leading 5-0 with Witten on the mound and in control. Then the rains came and the game was resumed at 9 am on Sunday. Ryan Rogers struck out 11 and O Cath rallied to win in extra innings. A great effort by the Aces and a really tough break for the Ads. I am an O Cath fan but I felt sorry for Danville. These were the 2 best teams in it and they had to meet up in the first game.

Game 2 for Catholic saw freshman Cole Sturgeon take the mound and dominate Russelville throwing a complete game and striking out 12 giving up 4 hits. Catholic won 2-0. This kid has filthy stuff and kept Russlevilles hitters guessing all game.

The Championship game was O Cath. 3 Beechwood 0. Joe Divine took the hill for Cathoilc and took a no hiiter into the 6th, stiking out 12 and absolutley dominated the Tigers.

Just a great effort by O Cath. they caught some breaks and didn't allow a run in 20 straight innings on Sunday. Their pitching was dominant and there defense was very good.

Freshman Cole Sturgeon was named MVP. He was dominant on the mound and was spectacular in center field making several diving catches and one over the shoulder catch in the championship game.

Very proud of the Aces and their coaching staff.

    Congratulations boys!!!!!!

  13. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesnt Ijames play for the elite Midland team that grabs players from all over the country?

If thats the case, then I believe Ijames will turn out to be a pretty good ball player...

Yes, He played with them last summer. He has pop in his bat that you can't teach.

  14. Brossart wins Coach Bob Rowe's fourth consecutive 10th Region All "A" Tournament with a 13-3 win over Paris on Monday evening at Paris.

Uebel homered to lead off the game and then pitched five shutout innings before yielding to Sophomore Jake Heil who took over in the bottom of the sixth inning with a 13-0 lead and allowed three Paris runs to score.

The three runs in the bottom of the sixth were the only scored against the Mustangs in the four game 10th Region small school tournament. They outscored their four opponents (Calvary, Nicholas, Bracken, and Paris) 55-3.

Jimmy Uebel, Chirs Simon, and Sophomore Josh Anderson, who all homered against Paris, were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Mustangs will now play Danville in a sectional event at Danville to determine the team that will advance to the "A" State tournament derby day weekend at Applebee's Park in Lexington.

Next up for the Mustangs is a 7pm Tuesday night district seeding event that will likely determine the 37th District's top seeded team. The game will be played at Campbell County High School.

How will Bishop Brossart fair against Danville? The Ads look pretty strong right now.

  15. Owensboro Catholic went 5-1 on its spring break trip. They beat Decatur AL and Austin AL on the trip down and then were the runner up in Tates Puma/ Gata tournament beating Pine forrest FL, Tate, West FL, and losing a heartbreaker to Beech HS from Hendersonville TN. Played some great competition and got alot better. That's what it is all about.

  16. I talked to his junior legion coach today and he said that they had him on the gun this summer and he was consistently 81 to 83. Not bad for a 14 year old kid. His high school coach also informs me that he is the best outfielder on O Catholics team. Not bad as well considering they will probably be a top 10 team in the state at some point this year.
