  1. Merry New Year (to quote Eddie Murphy from "Trading Places")! Amen on the tuition dilemma. Santa gave my my wish (or at least one of them): another matchup with Trinity in 2006, a rivalry entering its fourth season and one filled with relative unfamiliarity, yet respect for the great football played in their respective states. If I had another wish, it would be that Kentucky never has to endure the public/private split we've had to endure in Tennessee. Granted, we at MBA have had the opportunity to play fabulous regional/national programs from KY, SC, and FL as an indirect result of the split, but Tennessee football overall has still suffered as a result. Best wishes for a great 2006, BGPers. See you in '06.
  2. I haven't heard anything definitive down here in Nashville, but I do know MBA needs one opponent for 2006 (probably for its opener). MBA does have a history with one of the schools - Hopkinsville. The two schools played in 1914 and 1915, and 1948 and 1949: MBA Scores from 1899-1939 MBA Scores from 1940-1969 Please post if any new developments occur on this front. I'll do the same from Nashville.
  3. Lindsey did end up playing tonight - 55 yards rushing, 74 yards receiving, 3 TDs. Alcoa is a fabulous 2A program, but still plays secong fiddle to another Blount County team - 4A Maryville (14-0), which handed Alcoa its only loss and goes for another title of its own tomorrow versus Melrose.
  4. I love the Trinity series as well. Great competition, and more importantly, great class. Reading these postgame St. X-T threads is refreshing, particularly after reading a lot of bickering on the Tennessee state title game boards. Some of our fans down here could learn a thing or two by reading the good sportsmanship widely prevalent on this board.
  5. Hats off to Trinity from Nashville - impressive win. Enjoy. Looking forward to face the defending KY 4A champs in 2006! Playing the best other states have to offer certainly prepares you for the rest of the season.
  6. Riverdale smacked MBA in a scrimmage this year (42-0). They've had our number the past two years in scrimmages (I think the '04 scrimmage result was 35-7). However, from 1999-2003, MBA "won" four of the five scrimmages, if not all. Riverdale does have speed to burn, and defensively just swarms opposing offenses. Most of the points they give up is in mop-up duty. The 2004 edition of Riverdale went 10 straight games without giving up a TD (one safety and two FGs given up in that stretch). I haven't seen St. X this year, but my guess is they'd give Riverdale a good game this year, and a X win wouldn't surprise me, but they'd have to make the most of any scoring chances. When MBA has had stout teams (Trinity fans saw a pretty good MBA team in 2003, but the 1999 and 2000 versions were even better) with hard-nosed defenses, they have handled Riverdale and their speed well, and I'd venture to say this year's version of St. X would be considered "stout", based on what I've read.
