I think a healthy Austin Blair is the difference. He is the most underrated player in the region IMO. Russell by 6. 61-55

It still doesn't say much for the 16th Region when one of the better teams in the region loses to a pretty good S. Charleston team. Since I came to KY 14 yrs ago I would have consistently said that our area basketball was consistently better than WV basketball as a whole, but over the last 3-4 yrs it would not seem to be the case. The Spring Valley vs Ashland series would come to mind. I know everything is ebb and flow, it just seems that our area has become a bit stagnant- it seems our best players are always from somewhere else.Huntington and Ironton Basketball seem to be thriving, why not 16th Region KY?? :confused:

Anytime you cross the river(in either direction) for Bball games crazy thing occur. This game will be competitive but I'll still take Ironton by a little.

Ashland has to be a little leery of this game after RH's big win over BC. This feeling will continue to increase leading up to the game imo.

16th Region Ashland Boys will be the favorite again with Russell second. Russell did acquire a fairly good exchange(possible Regional Semi-finalist) to improve their depth(top 4 or 5 players will formidible at their position) but with the favorites for the singles crown (Freeman) and Doubles(Malloys) you have to say that its theTomcat's edge. Russell girls will be a clear cut favorite with Ashland most likely a distant second. Russell girls could be a year or two away from being perennial state champ contenders. 16th Region classic example of "haves" and "have-nots". Majority of teams beyond top 2 or 3 have a legitimate chance for regional championship.

I heard that Freshman Tyler Boyles really stepped up and gave the Rams some bench help!!

Might want to put Preston Freeman from Ashland in there as well. :thumb: Quigley would have to be deemed the fave, I agree!

Barker, from Fairview, does have an odd shot and yes it does go in a significant amount of times. I do believe I'd take Vanhoose though!!!

I will say the same thing as I said at a similar time last year. How many coaches in the 16th Region would swap their personnel/players man-up for Raceland's?? I would guess that it would be 2 or 3 at the most. I might be completely off base but in my mind Coach Shawn Johnson, and his staff, get the most possible from the players in their stead. I would think there wouldn't be a former player of his that couldn't say that from a "fundamentals" perspective that they were not a "much better player" than they were prior. You might not like his style of play but his record stands for itself. JMHO! :thumb:

Would you classify Owens as a shooter or a scorer??? Kinda like Steve Alford/Steve Kerr vs say somone like Michael Jordan.

Seems lame not to schedule them! Will be an all sports hiatus or just B-ball?
