  1. I was chatting (email) with a head football coach here in our wonderful state recently and he told me he has a Director of Football Operations. Off the top of my head it sounds like a fantastic idea. How many schools have such a thing and good idea or bad idea?

Why does this sound like a "fantastic" idea? How much would you think such a position should be paid?

  2. Of course! But it is not about what we (government, people, etc.) think the entire amount is, it is what we (the state in this case) can prove was taken.

If it goes to trial then it is all about what the state can prove. However, a settlement is just an agreement between two parties, there need not be any proof. IMO the agreement should have been for no less than they believed she took otherwise let it go to court.

  3. In other words she is going to pay back everything that can be proven and the incarceration sentence gets reduced to almost nothing. Pretty standard.

I am not an attorney, but wouldn't the appropriate plea deal to offer have been you can have the 30 days in jail and the 6 months of home incarceration, but you need to pay back the entire amount we believe you stole or we can take it to court?

  4. How tight do Miller and Mack remain?

Although AZ seems logical, could the problems Lyons had at X impact Miller's desire for him? I know AZ, like all the other schools involved needs guard play; however, if Miller and Mack are tight, he might be privy to information about the X situation that Self and Cal are not.

One more thing in regards to Cal. He seems to be really good at handling personalities. Not sure how that would translate with Lyons, but if anyone can smooth out Lyons rough edges, I wouldn't bet against Cal.

  5. I will disagree with others on here, because I like the neutral site arrangement for 2 reasons:

1.) For the non-UK season ticket holder, tickets were always available for the games at the Hoosier Dome

2.) The 1/2 Red 1/2 Blue (we might be stretching a bit lets say the 30% red and 70% blue) crowd made for a pretty unique atmosphere

  6. Boosters think she stole $60,000 but prosecutors can only prove $30,000 so that's what she has to pay back. They're recommending 5 years probation, 30 days in jail and 6 months home incarceration????

  7. Many have told me that other than the NDA Boone final this was the most entertaining game of the tournament. It did get intense during the final two minutes.

You stake out a position that this game cheated the players and the fans and now many others are saying it was one of the most memorable games of the tourney. Which is it? It can't be both.

  8. What happened in this game just violated the spirit of the game and it was wrong for the players, families and fans.

It violated nothing. It was a strategy employed by Dean Smith, who by any definition is one of the greatest basketball coaches. Sports at its best is all about game planning, adjustments, coaching decisions. If underdogs play by conventional strategies and follow expectations they will lose a high (dare I say VERY HIGH) percentage of the time; however, that isn't what happened. The coach of Highlands took a team that had been beaten soundly earlier in the season and had them in a position to win late in the game. You can't ask for much more than that from a coach.

In contrast, the coach of NDA took a team that was clearly the better team and not only made no adjusments, but seemed rather clueless as to what to do or how to handle it and was fortunate to come out with a win.

I realize what happened doesn't fit your paradigm for what a game should "loook like", whatever 'should look like" is, but I would encourage you to rethink the events. As someone earlier in the thread stated it was in stark contrast to other first round games where the coaches couldn't game plan to give their kids a chance to win a the end.

  9. I'm with wanttowin !! If ND didnt like it they should of done something about it. Maybe ND coach didnt have confidence in her team to get after them man to man the whole game . Highlands didnt break any rules and she gave her girls in her mind the best opportunity to win and almost did it! Maybe Dixie should of tried it !

I would question whether the NDA coach had ever 1.) even seen the stall employed or 2.) contemplated the what if scenario of how to respond to it.

If you are under 40, it is doubtful you have seen a team really use it.

  10. If we cringe a bit when a Public school refers to a kid who chooses to attend a private school after attending public schools up to that point as "our kid", is there any difference when a kid from a kid from a catholic elementary or middle school chooses to attend a high school that there school doesn't feed? You either like kids having the ability to choose or you don't.

Further it has been stated over and over that catholic schools have to "recruit" or at least attract kids in order to survive; however, is it somehow offensive if a one catholic school does that at the expense of another?

  11. Toucan Sam,

It appears that you are postulating that guys at small schools can't be top flight, which I believe is incorrect.

So, following your line of thinking, if a college player isn't playing at the DI level, he can't be a top flight player? What about the guys who are outstanding, but due to grades/academic background have to go to Junior College for 2 or 3 years? Are they not top flight until they get to a DI program?

I suppose to discuss this any further I would need you to define "top flight".
