  1. Lovette has 15 pts 8 boards for Indians. Dyer has 12. For GRC, Morton has 12 pts and Bush has 10 rebs. GRC dialed up their pressure to get back in it with Harrison on bench with 2 fouls. Lovette hit a 65 footer to end 1st qtr
  2. Quarterfinals: #6 Bishop Brossart 58 #3 Robertson County 54 (OT) The Black Devils led almost the entire game, but they faltered down the stretch. Ethan Eilerman hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds remaining to force overtime, despite the Black Devils still having a foul to give. The Mustangs consistently went to Eilerman in the 4th quarter and he delivered. He finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Carson Schirmer hit 4 key free throws late in overtime, including a pair to ice the game. Brandon Dice had a great game for Robertson County. He was able to get to the rim with ease and finished with 21 points. Justin Becker had 14 for the Black Devils. Bishop Brossart fouled Robertson County three times late in regulation. Becker missed the front end twice, then hit a pair of free throws to put the Black Devils up 3, before Eilerman’s shot forced overtime. #1 George Rogers Clark 81 #8 Augusta 41 Augusta got off to a 5-0 lead, but George Rogers Clark turned up the heat and put the game away quickly. Jared Wellman had 18, Jerone Morton 17 and Lincoln Bush continued to be a beast on the glass, posting 12 points and 17 rebounds. Wellman has been shooting great from 3-point range all postseason. Augusta was outmatched but battled to the end. Kason Hinson finished with 15 points and 10 boards. #2 Montgomery County 52 #5 Mason County 51 The Indians found themselves in a double-digit deficit with their top two players (Hagan Harrison and Rickey Lovette) on the bench with 2 fouls. But their quick lineup was able to bother Mason County and keep the Indians in the game going into halftime. Brandon Dyer hit a jump shot in the lane with 1:45 remaining to give the Indians a 3-point lead. Mason County later cut it to 1 and had a chance to take the lead but ended up missing a wide-open layup with 30 seconds remaining. The Royals then stole the ball and had a chance to win, but Carson Brammer’s open 3-pointer rimmed out and the Royals were not able to secure the rebound. Hagan Harrison led the Indians with 15 points. Zach Benton had 7 points 3 blocks and 6 assists, including a nice behind the back assist in transition. He fouled out near the end of the game. Dyer finished with 11 points. Alex Schalch had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Mason County. Braden May and Brammer each finished with 11. Tyrell Henry struggled with foul trouble all game and ended up fouling out. #4 Campbell County 48 #7 Pendleton County 33 Campbell County’s Jordan Gross had 24 points and 8 rebounds. He was the difference in the game. Pendleton County took the lead midway through the 3rd quarter, but just didn’t have enough offense down the stretch. Tredyn Thomas led the Wildcats with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Pendleton County slowed the game down and the Camels did not look sharp, other than the good game from Gross. Garrett Beiting hit 3 of 6 threes and finished with 9 points for Pendleton County. The Camels won the turnover battle 12 to 5. Semifinal Preview George Rogers Clark (26-7) vs Bishop Brossart (25-6) Monday, March 9 at GRC - 6 p.m. GRC is the favorite to win the region. Offensively, they have relied on their big three of Jerone Morton, (17 ppg), Jared Wellman (16 ppg) and Lincoln Bush (14 ppg, 13 rpg) all season. KJ Rucker pitches in 11 points per game and provides solid perimeter defense. I expect the Cardinals to focus their defense on Bishop Brossart’s Ethan Eilerman. Expect the Mustangs to slow down the game and rely on Eilerman (20 ppg), Schirmer (15 ppg) and Verst (12 ppg). David Govan will need to try to grab some rebounds away from Bush. Montgomery County (21-12) vs Campbell County (18-14) Monday, March 9 at GRC – 7:30 p.m. Montgomery County has fallen behind in their last three games. They come in as a slight favorite tonight but will need to start strong. Hagan Harrison (18 ppg) has been a scoring machine lately and Rickey Lovette (13 ppg, 9 rpg) changes the game on both ends of the court. Brandon Dyer (8 ppg) makes winning plays and provides 3-point shooting and Austin Eichenberger (9 ppg) has been a steadying presence at point guard, often playing 30 plus minutes a game. Campbell County has a strong showing in the postseason so far. Jordan Gross (16 ppg) has been scoring at an impressive rate. He is a good shooter from deep as is Garrett Beiting (9 ppg). Dane Hegyi (16 ppg) leads the Camels in scoring. The finals will be played on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Note the rankings are based on the 8 team rankings I did when I previewed the 10th region tournament last week.
  3. Montgomery County is playing well down the stretch!

George Rogers Clark (25-7) -The Cardinals are the favorites to win the region, now that Bourbon County is eliminated. They get the region at home. 2. Montgomery County (20-12) – The Indians came back from 17 points to upset Bourbon County. They lost to Clark County for the third time this season. They are in the region for the first time since they hosted in 2016. 3. Robertson County (24-5) – Robertson County easily won the 38th district, as expected. 4. Campbell County (17-14) – The Camels had a great district tournament. They rolled past a decent Calvary Christian team before beating Bishop Brossart in the district finals. 5. Mason County (18-11) – The Royals struggled to put away Bracken County and Augusta in the district games. 6. Bishop Brossart (24-6) – The Mustangs have faltered down the stretch. They almost lost their first-round district game to Scott, then they lost to Campbell County in the district finals. 7. Pendleton County (12-19) – The Wildcats barely got past Harrison County in the first round of the district. Pendleton and Augusta are well below the top 6 remaining teams. 8. Augusta (14-18) – The Panthers got a favorable draw in the district and defeated St. Patrick. It would take a major upset for Augusta to make a deep run. 10th Region Bracket at GRC Robertson County vs Bishop Brossart March 4 at 6pm George Rogers Clark vs Augusta March 4 at 7:30 pm Montgomery County vs Mason County March 5 at 6pm Campbell County vs Pendleton County March 5 at 7:30 pm Semifinals March 9 at 6pm and 7:30 pm Finals March 10 at 7:30 pm Bracket Analysis: Regarding bracket winners, George Rogers Clark got a good draw. Robertson County and Mason County got tough draws. They will likely need to beat 3 good teams in order to win. The best first round matchups look to be Robertson County vs Bishop Brossart and Mason County vs Montgomery Counry. Pendleton County may give Campbell County a scare.
  5. Bourbon County was able to get to the rim with ease in the first half but that did not happen in the 2nd half or OT. I think Bourbon settled for too many threes in the 2nd half. Montgomery County also stepped up their defense.
  6. After watching Hagan Harrison last night, he should be ranked higher than 3rd team.
  7. Final Regular Season Rankings: 1. Bourbon County (24-5) - The Colonels are led by a host of seniors. This could be their best team since the 1980s. Paducah Tilghman transfer Amirion Joyce leads the Colonels, and Brycen Collins is having a big season on offense and defense. Last Week: Defeated Pendleton County 79-54, defeated Harrison County 86-66 2. George Rogers Clark (22-7) - The Cardinals are led by a quartet of players. Senior Lincoln Bush is having an incredible season, especially from a rebounding perspective. Sophomore Jerone Morton, junior Jared Wellman and senior KJ Rucker are all capable of beating teams. Rucker is a standout defender. Last Week: Defeated Bryan Station 74-63, defeated Boyd County 71-53 3. Montgomery County (19-11) – Sophomore point guard Hagan Harrison and big man junior Rickey Lovette are both having big seasons for the Indians. Brandon Dyer can get hot in a hurry from long range. Last Week: Lost to Mason County 69-62, defeated Bellevue 56-28 5. Robertson County (22-5) – The Black Devils are a scoring machine. Sophomore standout Justin Becker is 2nd in the state in scoring. Senior Ross Becker provides and inside presence along with rebounding. Last Week: Defeated Bracken County 91-70, defeated Burgin 85-30 6. Mason County (16-11) – Robertson County transfer Alex Schuh, a senior, is one of the top players in the region. He is a consistent scorer and rebounder for the Royals. Last Week: Defeated Boone County 78-57, defeated Ryle 74-47 8. Calvary Christian (15-14) – The Cougars are having one of their best seasons in school history and it all starts with seniors Cross Dugan and Noah Herald. Herald is a walking double-double. Last Week: Defeated Nicholas County 61-56, defeated Bellevue 73-29, defeated Southeast (IN) Homeschool 62-46 9. Paris (11-17) – Junior Ricqiece Washington has been the man all year for the Greyhounds. Last Week: Lost to Harrison County 64-61 (3OT), defeated Pendleton County 58-52, defeated Western Hills 71-68 10. Pendleton County (11-18) – Junior Tredyn Thomas is having a great season for the Wildcats. He has had some monster games this season. Last Week: Lost to Bourbon County 79-54, lost to Paris 58-52 11. Augusta (13-17) – Sophomore Kason Hinson has led Augusta to some nice wins this season. Last Week: Lost to Lewis County 81-80, defeated Ludlow 73-62 12. Bracken County (11-19) – You won’t find many 8th graders putting up better numbers than Blake Reed. Last Week: Defeated Ludlow 75-73, lost to Robertson County 91-70, lost to Grant County 89-65 13. Scott (6-21) – Junior Grant Proffit and sophomore Kyle Huelsman have been the two primary options for Scott all season. Expect Scott to take a step forward next season. Last Week: Defeated Ryle 59-56, lost to Cooper 50-42 14. Harrison County (5-24) – They have a pretty balanced attack this season. Senior Casey Sledd and junior Clay Carpenter are the leading scorers. Last Week: Lost to Bishop Brossart 75-40, lost to Greenup County 84-67, lost to Nicholas County 79-62, lost to Villa Madonna 67-65 District Previews 37th District - at Campbell County Middle School (Finals are Thursday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m.) Semifinal #1 Bishop Brossart vs Scott - Tuesday, February 25th at 6:00 p.m. Bishop Brossart has only 1 loss in region play (to Mason County) and defeated Scott 68-50 on January 28. Scott has really faltered down the stretch this season. Bishop Brossart is the heavy favorite in this one. The Mustangs were the 10th region All “A” champion and they are a legitimate regional title contender. Semifinal #2 Campbell County vs Calvary Christian - Tuesday, February 25th at 7:30 p.m. This could be one of the better semifinal games. Calvary Christian has legitimate shot at making their first ever region tournament in school history. They have several impressive results this season, including a 56-51 overtime loss to Bishop Brossart in 10th region All “A” Classic. Campbell County defeated Calvary Christian 71-56 back in December. The Camels do look to be the favorite in this game. They have quality wins over St. Henry and Bourbon County on their resume. 38th District - at Nicholas County (Finals are Thursday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m.) Semifinal #1 Robertson County vs Nicholas County - Tuesday, February 25th at 6:00 p.m. Robertson County is one of the top teams in the region and Nicholas County is ranked near the bottom, so on paper this should not be close. Robertson County defeated Nicholas County 69-65 back on December 20, and then blew out the Bluejackets in the two other games played this season. Since January 10, the Bluejackets have only won once while the Black Devils have only lost once. Semifinal #2 Pendleton County vs Harrison County - Tuesday, February 25th at 8:00 p.m. Pendleton County has consistently been better than Harrison County this season. The Wildcats defeated the Thoroughbreds 52-45 on January 14 and 70-38 on January 31. Harrison County did defeat Paris in triple overtime last week. Harrison County’s only other region wins this season came against Nicholas County. 39th District – at Bracken County (Finals are Thursday, February 27th at 8:15 p.m.) Semifinal #1 Maysville St. Patrick vs Augusta - Monday, February 24th at 8:15 p.m. Augusta has not won a game in February, but they should have no trouble with the Saints. St. Patrick does not have a region win this season and Augusta has a 7-9 record against 10th region teams. The Panthers easily defeated the Saints in both regular season matchups. Semifinal #2 Mason County vs Bracken County - Tuesday, February 25th at 8:15 p.m. Mason County has some impressive wins (George Rogers Clark, Bishop Brossart) and some head-scratching losses (Lewis County, Scott, Fleming County.) Unless they really slip up, they are expected to get past the Bracken County Polar Bears. The Royals defeated them 85-76 back on December 20. The Polar Bears best wins this season have come against Augusta, Calvary Christian, and Pendleton County. 40th District – at George Rogers Clark (Finals are Thursday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m.) Semifinal #1 George Rogers Clark vs Paris - Tuesday, February 25th at 6:00 p.m. George Rogers Clark defeated Paris twice this season by a combined 49 points. The Cardinals have consistently been ranked near the top of the region and are expected to defeat the Greyhounds. Paris has improved as the season has gone on. They have played a tough schedule this season. Semifinal #2 Bourbon County vs Montgomery County - Tuesday, February 25th at 7:45 p.m. It is a shame that one of these two teams will have to miss the regional. Bourbon County is ranked in all the major top 25 polls and they have impressive wins over Collins, Henry Clay and Lexington Catholic. The Colonels made it all the way to the state 2A title game before falling to John Hardin. They defeated Montgomery County by 5 points in December and 15 points in January. The Indians are getting hot at the right time, having won 7 straight. This could be the best of the first-round games.
  8. Campbell vs Calvary Christian could be a good one. If Calvary Christian wins, would that be their first ever trip to the region tournament?
  9. 1. Bourbon County (22-5) - The Colonels knocked off rival Paris (81-73) and had a big second half to defeated Calvary Christian (64-42). Amirion Joyce continues to lead the Colonels. He had 26 points in the win over Paris. I have Bourbon County ranked 14th in my state media rankings. The Colonels lost the coin-flip in the 40th district, so they must play the #3 seed Montgomery County Indians in the first round of the district. 2. George Rogers Clark (21-7) - The Cardinals opened their new arena with a closer than expected 72-70 double-overtime win over Madison Southern. Lincoln Bush finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds. GRC then posted nice blowout wins over Knott County Central (70-50) and Bracken County (79-54). They won the coin-flip over Bourbon County and will play Paris in the first round of the 40th district. 3. Bishop Brossart (22-4) - The Mustangs defeated Villa Madonna (69-42), Calvary Christian (47-38) and Bracken County (81-61). Ethan Eilerman had a double-double (24 points, 10 rebounds) in the victory over Bracken County. If they can get past Mason County next week they will finish with a perfect record against 10th region competition. 4. Robertson County (20-5) - The Black Devils beat a couple of the low ranked 10th region teams last week and now have won 8 straight. They rolled past St. Patrick and Harrison County. Sophomore Justin Becker continues to be near the top of the state in scoring. He is pouring in 27 points per game. 5. Montgomery County (18-11) - The Indians have now won six in a row, thanks to last week's victories over Harrison County (70-49), Estill County (60-50), and Pendleton County (60-52). Rickey Lovette had a field day with 20 points and 17 rebounds in the win over Harrison County. 6. Mason County (15-10) - Great wins followed by baffling losses pretty much sums up the Royal's season so far. Two weeks ago they knocked off George Rogers Clark but last week they inexplicably lost to Fleming County (73-70). The Royals did pick up wins over Ryle (85-63) and Harrison County (84-63) to finish 1-2 on the week. The Royals certainly have talent, but may lack the consistency needed to put together a deep run in the 10th region tournament. 7. Campbell County (13-14) - The Camels had a rough week last week, falling to Simon Kenton (64-43) and Cooper (64-58) and defeating Pendleton County (78-49). The Camels were not able to continue their momentum gained from their February 6 win over Bourbon County. Freshman Aydan Hamilton scored 21 points in the win over the Wildcats. The Camels have some nice wins this season, but have not shown much consistency. 8. Paris (9-16) - The Greyhounds knocked off Augusta for the 2nd time this season, winning in overtime by a score of 61-57. They lost at Frankfort (52-45). Junior Ricqiece Washington is averaging 19 points per game. 9. Calvary Christian (12-14) - The Cougars continue to show signs of improvement. They lost competitive games to Covington Holy Cross (67-60) and Bishop Brossart (47-38). They hung around with Bourbon County for a half before falling 64-42. The Cougars look like they could give Campbell County a run for their money in the first round of the district tournament. Senior Noah Herald is averaging 13 boards a game. 10. Pendleton County (11-16) - The Wildcats lost all three games last week. Falling to Campbell County (78-49), Montgomery County (60-52), and Estill County (50-38). The tough schedule continues next week with Bourbon County and Paris. 11. Augusta (12-16) - The Panthers lost competitive home games to Paris (61-57 OT) and the struggling Scott Eagles (64-59). Augusta also suffered a surprising 72-65 loss to Villa Madonna. 12. Bracken County (10-17) - The Polar Bears had a rough schedule last week, and were blown out by Bishop Brossart and George Rogers Clark. Blake Reed continues to put up big numbers. He had 28 in the loss to the Mustangs. 13. Scott (5-20) - The Eagles picked up a big road victory (64-59) over Augusta, ending a 12 game losing streak. Scott does have a respectable 4-5 season record in 10th region games, including December wins over Mason County and Pendleton County. 14. Harrison County (4-23) - The Thoroughbreds were blown out by Montgomery County and Robertson County last week. They have been stuck in the 14th spot the last several weeks. 15. Nicholas County (4-23) - The Bluejackets have lost 5 straight and 12 of 13. Senior Morgan Planck is averaging 16 points and 6 rebounds. 16. St. Patrick (5-21) - The Saints have dropped 10 straight. They will be looking to pickup their first 10th region win at Nicholas County on February 20. Games of the Week: Feb 18 at 7:30 p.m. Mason County at Bishop Brossart Feb 20 at 8:00 p.m. North Oldham at Montgomery County
  10. 1. Bourbon County (21-5) - The Colonels picked up a big 75-63 victory over George Rogers Clark and also knocked off Paris 81-73. That means they finished in a tie in the district with George Rogers Clark, and that the 40th district top seed will be decided by a coin flip. The winner of the coin flip will face Paris and the loser has to play Montgomery County. Against the Cardinals, the Colonels found themselves in a hole early but battled back behind a 29 performance from star Amirion Joyce. Brycen Collins chipped in 20 points and also some game changing plays on defense. Poor three point shooting (2 of 20) doomed the Colonels in a 72-65 loss to Campbell County. 2. George Rogers Clark (18-7) - The Cardinals had their roughest week of the season, dropping road games to Bourbon County (75-63) and Mason County (60-53). The Cardinals got off to a hot start against Bourbon County but did not have an answer once the Colonels turned up their pressure defense. Jerone Morton had 17 points against Bourbon County and 23 points and 9 boards against Mason County. Lincoln Bush had 16 points and 22 rebounds against the Colonels. 3. Bishop Brossart (18-4) - The Mustangs won both of their 10th region games last week, defeating Augusta (50-47) and Pendleton County (66-48). The lost to Newport Central Catholic (76-73). Three of the Mustangs four losses have come to 9th region teams. Bishop Brossart is the only 10th region team that is undefeated (10-0) in region play. However, they have not played George Rogers Clark nor Bourbon County. 4. Robertson County (18-5) - The Black Devils picked up victories over Pendleton County (76-63) and Fleming County (74-43) to bring their winning streak to 5 games. Sophomore Justin Becker had 35 points and 11 boards in the win over the Wildcats. 5. Montgomery County (15-11) - The Indians won all three games last week, including a 57-49 road win over Mason County, their most impressive win this season. The Indians also defeated Augusta 58-48 and Paris 61-50. Sophomore Hagan Harrison and junior Rickey Lovette continue to be the Indian's go-to players. 6. Mason County (13-9) - The Royals dropped a home game to Montgomery County (57-49) but bounced back in a big way to defeat George Rogers Clark (60-53). The Royals won despite having several players out due to injury or illness. Xylon Frey and Alex Schalch each had big games. 7. Campbell County (12-12) - Dane Hegyi and Jordan Gross each scored 18 points and pulled down double digit rebounds, and Garrett Beiting scored 19 to lead the Camels to a 72-65 win over Bourbon County. Despite the big victory, the Camels remain #7 because the two teams in front of them also had impressive victories last week. 8. Paris (8-15) - The Greyhounds continue to improve. After being blown out by Montgomery County and Bourbon County earlier in the season, they were much more competitive last week. They lost to the Indians by only 11 and the Colonels by only 8, and picked up victory over Model to finish 1-2 last week. Ricqiece Washington had 17 points and Caleb Johnson had 15 points and 8 rebounds in the loss to the Indians. Jamaun Clark had 20 points and 9 rebounds in the loss to the Colonels. 9. Pendleton County (11-13) - The Wildcats have achieved their highest ranking of the season. They lost to Robertson County (76-63) and Bishop Brossart (66-48), but picked up a nice 5 point win over Bracken County, avenging a loss to the Polar Bears that happened early in the season. Tredyn Thomas had an astounding 42 points and 20 rebounds, for the Wildcats in the win over Bracken County. He shot 23 free throws in that contest. Next week they have tough games coming up against Campbell County and Montgomery County. 10. Calvary Christian (12-11) - Cross Dugan had 29 points, Noah Herald pulled down 12 rebounds, and the Crusaders pulled off an big 69-49 win over Augusta. Calvary Christian lost to Ludlow (65-59) earlier in the week. 11. Augusta (12-13) - The Panthers started off the week by almost pulling a nice upset over Bishop Brossart, only to lose by 3 points. Then they lost to Montgomery County (58-48), and Calvary Christian (69-49). They seem to be trending in the wrong direction. 12. Bracken County (10-15) - The Polar Bears split home games last week, beating Harrison County (80-71) and falling to Pendleton County (70-65). 8th grader Blake Reed continues to put up big numbers, pouring in 23 points per game on the season. 13. Scott (4-18) - The Eagles continue to struggle, dropping games to Newport Central Catholic (85-62) and Conner (78-54). Scott hosts Augusta next week. The Eagles are young and could bounce back next season. 14. Harrison County (4-20) - The Thoroughbreds lost to Bracken County (80-71) and Madison Central (84-48), but bounced back in a 71-47 blowout victory over Fleming County. 15. Nicholas County (4-20) - The Bluejackets lost to Berea (79-61) and Morgan County (81-73). They have the lowest RPI in the region. 16. St. Patrick (5-18) - The Saints dropped all 3 games last week. They have lost 7 in row and remain winless against 10th region competition. Games of the Week Madison Southern at George Rogers Clark - Tuesday, February 11 7:30 p.m. - The first game in the Cardinal's beautiful new 4,200 seat gym. Knott County Central at George Rogers Clark - Friday February 14 7:30 p.m. - The Patriots are one of the top teams in the 14th region. Robertson County at Campbell County - This is a makeup game, not sure of the details yet.
  11. Yes the Mason GRC game is absoultely a game to watch! Thanks for the correction on Kason Hinson.
  12. 1. Bourbon County (19-4) - I have the Colonels ranked #13 in the state in my media top 25 rankings. Last week they rolled past Richmond Model (80-56) and won at Scott County (88-79). Bourbon County hosts George Rogers Clark on Tuesday night. Amirion Joyce (19.9 ppg) will be in the lineup. He missed the first meeting between the teams, which was won by George Rogers Clark. 2. George Rogers Clark (18-5) - The Cardinals split games last week, losing to Tates Creek (65-59) and defeating Montgomery County (60-51). Both George Rogers Clark and Tates Creek are fringe top-25 caliber teams, so the loss to Tates Creek may drop them out of the top 25 discussion temporarily. Lincoln Bush posted another double-double in the loss to the Commodores and finished with 19 points and 21 boards in the win over the Indians. The Cardinals new 4,200 seat gym opens on February 11. They will be the hosts of the 10th region tournament in March. 3. Bishop Brossart (16-3) - The Mustangs used a balanced attack to knock off Scott 68-50. They have lost only one game since December 5 and seem like they can challenge Bourbon County and George Rogers Clark. The bad news is they may need to knock off both teams in order to win the region. 4. Robertson County (16-5) - The Black Devils seem to have put their mini-mid season slump behind them. They picked up home victories over Montgomery County (66-59) and Paris (62-45). Justin Becker scored 32 of the teams 66 points in the win over Montgomery County. Becker is the state's leading scorer. 5. Mason County (12-8) - The Royals defeated Paris (72-59) and also picked up a nice win over Boyd County (79-61). Carsen Brammer had 15 points in the win over Paris. 6. Montgomery County (12-11) - The Indians suffered competitive road losses to Robertson County (66-59) and George Rogers Clark (60-51). The Indians are usually a solid rebounding team but that was not the case against George Rogers Clark. In order to make the region tournament, they will need to upset either Bourbon County or George Rogers Clark. A tough schedule may have the Indians ready to do just that. 7. Campbell County (11-12) - The Camels have been up and down all season. They suffered a disappointing loss Holmes (79-58) and a competitive loss to Beechwood (52-47). Dane Hegyi posted 29 points and 12 rebounds in a 64-50 victory over Scott. 8. Paris (7-13) - The Greyhounds have played a tough schedule and last week was no exception. They dropped games to Mason County (72-59) and Robertson County (62-45). Paris also suffered a disappointing loss to Boone County (68-62). They will have to play either Bourbon County or George Rogers Clark in the first round of the district. They don't match up well against either team 9. 13. 1. Bourbon County (18-4) - The Colonels, who lost at George Rogers Clark 77-65, still maintain the region's top spot, due to their strong resume that includes 4 wins over top 25 caliber teams, while George Rogers Clark only has one. Bourbon's big wins came earlier in the season against Henry Clay, Collins, Tates Creek, and Lexington Catholic. In the loss to George Rogers Clark, Bourbon County struggled without their top player, Amirion Joyce. Joyce was not allowed to play because he had been ejected in the 2A State finals game. Nakyir Joyce scored 28 points in the loss. The Colonels bounced back with a blowout win over Richmond Model. 2. George Rogers Clark (17-4) - The Cardinals knocked off Bourbon County 77-65 and Scott 69-56 to remain unblemished against 10th region competition. The Cardinals have 4 key players this season and all four had big games in the win over the Colonels. Jerone Morton, Jared Wellman, Lincoln Bush, and KJ Rucker each scored in double figures in both games. Bush had 21 rebounds in the big win over Bourbon County. The Cardinals have 4 tough games coming up (at Tates Creek, Montgomery County, at Bourbon County, and at Mason County.) 3. Bishop Brossart (15-3) - The Mustangs suffered a disappointing first round defeat in the first round of the All "A" Classic State Tournament, falling to Frankfort 57-52. Stephen Verst posted 23 points and 7 rebounds. The Mustangs appeared to be one of the favorites to come out of the top bracket, but didn't shoot well in the loss and instead it was Frankfort who went all the way to the championship game. This was the Mustangs first loss since December 5 at Ft. Thomas Highlands. This week they host district foe Scott and travel to All "A" State champion St. Henry. The Mustangs are undefeated against 10th region competition, with all 3 of their loss coming against good 9th region teams. 4. Mason County (10-8) - The Royals knocked off Pendleton County 53-45 but lost to Holmes 50-49. This loss continues a trend of puzzling losses, going back to the Lewis County and Scott losses earlier in the season. The Royals continue to play through big man Alex Schalch, but need someone else to step up to give him some help. 5. Robertson County (14-5) - The Black Devils blew out Nicholas County for the second time in as many weeks in their only game last week. Justin Becker who continues to put up big numbers, scored 26 points in the win. Robertson County started out the season on fire, stumbled for a few games, and is now gaining some momentum. We should find out where they stand after home games this week against Montgomery County and Paris. 6. Campbell County (10-10) - The Camels were competitive in an 85-83 overtime loss to a good Covington Holy Cross team. Then they picked up expected wins over Harrison County (62-37) and Walton-Verona (77-34). Keep an eye on freshman Aydan Hamilton, he is averaging 13 points and 5 rebounds per game. 7. Montgomery County (12-9) - The schedule got a little bit easier last week and the Indians took advantage, picking up wins over Madison Southern (73-66), Bath County (70-67) and Franklin County (64-55). The biggest win of the three was probably the home win over a solid Madison Southern team. Hagan Harrision played well in all three games. Rickey Lovette had 19 points and 15 rebounds in the win over Bath County. Harrison and Brandon Dyer are each shooting over 40% from 3-point range for the season. 8. Paris (7-10) - Paris was playing some of their best ball of the season going in to last week, and that continued with wins over Fleming County (69-53) and Bracken County (64-52). However, they ended the week with a listless 58-43 loss to Sayre, despite 28 points from Ricqiece Washington. 9.Augusta (10-10) - The Panthers had a rough week, losing district games to Mason County (60-54) and Bracken County (66-58). This means they split the season series vs the Polar Bears. Kason Hinson is averaging 21 points per game. 10. Calvary Christian (9-8) - The Cougars move up 2 spots after knocking off Scott 55-51, picking up their first region win in the process. They also defeated Villa Madonna 70-50 and lost to Grant County 87-59. Noah Herald finished with 20 points and 18 rebounds in the nice win over Scott. 11. Pendleton County (8-11) - The Wildcats defeated St. Patrick (63-50) and lost to Mason County (53-45). The loss to the Royals ended Pendleton's 4 game winning streak. The Wildcats are the 2nd best team in the district, behind Robertson County 12. Scott (4-14) - The Eagles are going in the wrong direction after losing games to Calvary Christian (55-51), George Rogers Clark (69-56) and Lewis County (70-53). They have now lost 7 in a row. They need to turn it around with tough district games at Bishop Brossart and Campbell County coming up this week. 13. Bracken County (7-14) - The Polar Bears finished the week strong with a nice 66-58 victory over district rival Augusta, turning the tables from the season's earlier meeting. Jhace Cummins poured in 24 points. Earlier in the week they picked up a 79-74 win over Dayton and lost to Paris 64-52. 14. Harrison County (2-16) - Their losing streak continues after suffering defeats to Campbell County (62-37) and Adair County (54-52). 15. Nicholas County(3-15) - The Bluejackets continue to struggle. The dropped games to Robertson County (93-65) and Fleming County (73-62). 16. St. Patrick (5-13) - The Saints lost to Pendleton County (63-50) and a team from Ripley, OH (78-54). Games of the Week: George Rogers Clark at Tates Creek 1/28 at 7:30 p.m. - Montgomery County at George Rogers Clark 1/31 at 7:30 p.m. Bishop Brossart at St. Henry 1/30 at 7:30 p.m. - St. Henry is the All "A" Champion
  14. Three Indians starters sat out the 1st quarter. Harrison had a good game and Lovette was active on the glass. Not the prettiest game to watch.
  15. 1. Bourbon County (17-3) - The Colonels are a top 10 team in the state. They went all the way to the 2A finals, defeating Lawrence County (68-56) and Lexington Catholic (71-66), before falling to #1 John Hardin (73-53).The win over Lexington Catholic was very impressive. The Colonels travel to George Rogers Clark on Tuesday. The winner will have the inside track to the #1 seed in the brutal 40th district. 2. George Rogers Clark (15-4) - The Cardinals went 2-1 on the week, losing to Woodford County (75-68) and picking up wins over Montgomery County (59-52) and Breathitt County (77-74). In the win over Montgomery County, Jerone Morton scored 23 points and KJ Rucker held Hagan Harrison scoreless in the 2nd half. The Cardinals changed tactics at halftime, using a aggressive defense (and face guarding Harrison) to turn the tide. The win over Breathitt County was closer than expected. The Cardinals are 11th in the state in scoring offense. 3. Bishop Brossart (15-2) The Mustangs are headed back to Richmond for the All A State Tournament. They defeated Paris (56-53) in the region semifinals and Robertson County (72-64) in the region finals. Carson Schirmer scored 20 points in the win over Robertson County. The Mustangs will be a heavy favorite in their first round matchup against Frankfort. Bishop Brossart is one of the top teams in the tournament. They are on the opposite side of the draw of Hazard. The Bulldogs are undefeated against state competition. 4. Mason County (8-7) - Alex Schalch scored 26 points and the Royals posted their most impressive victory this season in a 74-64 win over Campbell County. Then, the Royals nearly upset one of the top teams in the state, falling 66-65 to Ashland. Combine that result with Mason’s County’s overtime loss to Bourbon County early in the season, and that proves the Royals can compete with any team. 5. Robertson County (13-5) - The Black Devils breezed past Nicholas County behind a 30 point effort from Justin Becker. However, they dropped the 10th region All A finals to Bishop Brossart 62-54. Ross Becker posted a double-double in the loss to the Mustangs. Justin Becker is 2nd in the state in scoring with 27.7 ppg. The Black Devils are 8th in the state in scoring offense. 6. Campbell County (8-9) - The Camels dropped road games to Mason County (74-64) and Highlands (71-54). Jordan Gross had a double-double in the loss to the surging Highlands Bluebirds. The Camels have played 5 straight good teams and are only 1-4 in those contests. 7. Montgomery County (9-9) - The Indians suffered their fourth straight loss, falling to George Rogers Clark 59-52. The Indians need to take care of the ball better going forward, but big man Rickey Lovette continues to impress. 8. Paris (5-9) - The Greyhounds are continuing to show signs of improvement. They narrowly lost to Bishop Brossart in the 10th region All A semifinals. Paris is shooting only 54% from the charity stripe this season. 9. Scott (4-11) - The Eagles lost in overtime to Dixie Heights (72-68), despite Grant Profitt's 31 points. Scott also fell to Holmes (80-73). Kyle Huelsman is shooting an incredible 48.7% from three point range. 11. Pendleton County (7-10) - The Wildcats won all three games last week, nearly doubling their season win total in the process. Calvary Christian (7-7) - The Crusaders had the week off. They are 0-4 in 10th region play and will look to get off the snide when they host Scott on January 21. Noah Herald is averaging 12.6 rebounds a game, good for 4th in the state. 13. Harrison County (2-14) - The Thoroughbreds continued their trend of losing to every team they have played not named "Nicholas County." They dropped both of their games last week, suffering road losses at Pendleton County (52-45) and Ludlow (63-43). Richard Harris is shooting 69.8% from the field, good for 4th in the state. 14. Nicholas County (3-13) - The road was not kind to the Bluejackets last week. 16. 1. Bourbon County (15-2) - The Colonels are establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with throughout the state. The senior dominated, pressure oriented Colonels picked up a 56-41 win over Montgomery County to complete the season sweep over the Indians. Amirion Joyce had 19 points and seemed to be the difference in the game. Amari Faulkner also provided a spark. With the win over Calvary Christian, Bishop Brossart advances to play Paris in the 10th region All A semifinals. The Mustangs have won 12 straight. 4. Campbell County (8-7) - The Camels are trending in the right direction. They were competitive in a 67-56 home loss to Covington Catholic, and defeated St. Henry 56-55. Covington Catholic is one of the top teams in the state and St. Henry was fresh off an impressive win over Lexington Catholic. Dane Hegyi poured in 23 points in the big win over St. Henry. 5. Robertson County (12-4) - The Black Devils won both games last week, putting an end to their 4 game losing streak. Justin Becker had 22 points and 12 rebounds in the 75-52 win over Calvary Christian. Robertson County then narrowly defeated Bracken County 53-50. A surprising score given that the Black Devils had defeated them by 37 points early in the season. 6. Montgomery County (9-8) - The Indians dropped all three games last week. The most important being the 56-41 district loss to Bourbon County, because that drops them to 1-2 in the district. The Indians struggled with the Colonels pressure defense and couldn't find any rhythm on offense. Montgomery County's other two losses were to Eastern 71-70 and Harlan County 71-67. 7. Mason County (7-6) - In the 2A sectional tournament, the Royals fell to Rowan County in overtime, despite Alex Schalch's double-double. Mason County did pick up a 77-60 home win over Walton Verona. Harrison County (2-12) - The Thoroughbreds dropped games to the top two teams in the region last week. 17. I would probably have Beechwood down a little lower, especially below Highlands.
  18. 1. Bourbon County (12-2) - The Colonels defeated two top tier 11th region teams last week. First they knocked off Frederick Douglas 69-66 to capture 3rd place in the prestigious Traditional Bank Holiday Classic over at Lexington Catholic. George Rogers Clark (10-3) - KJ Rucker (23 points), Jared Wellman (22 points), Jerone Morton (20 points) and Lincoln Bush (10 points, 17 rebounds) all played well in the Cardinals road 84-67 victory over Robertson County. Montgomery County (9-5) - The Indians picked up wins over Paintsville (65-59) and Bell County (82-74). Montgomery County had dropped three of their previous four games heading in to last week. They have an important district showdown at Bourbon County on January 7. 5. Campbell County (7-6) - The Camels lost to the surging Bishop Brossart Mustangs 67-58. The game was competitive, with the Camels holding an 11 point lead at one point. Jordan Gross and Dane Hegyi led the way with 16 points apiece. Freshman Aydan Hamilton was also impressive. Campbell County hosts one of the top teams in the state (Covington Catholic) on January 8. 6. Robertson County (10-4) - The Black Devils have dropped four games in a row. They have been on a downward trajectory over the past two weeks. This week they lost to George Rogers Clark 84-67 and lost to Augusta 73-68. Robertson County had defeated Augusta 70-44 to open the season. It is hard to explain how or why the Black Devils started out so well, but then fell so far. Their defense perhaps is the biggest reason why. 7. Mason County (6-5) - The Royals defeated Mercer County 70-56 behind 23 points and 9 rebounds from Alex Schalch. Schalch should be considered as one of the top candidates for 10th region player of the year. Jake Swolsky drained 4 of 6 three pointers in the victory. 8. Augusta (8-7) - The Panthers avenged a season opening lost to Robertson County by turning the tables on the Black Devils and defeating them 73-68. Paris (3-7) - The Greyhounds remain in the number 11 spot after being idle last week. Ricqiece Washington is averaging 20 points per game for Paris. 12. Harrison County (2-10) - The good news is that Harrison County defeated Nicholas County for the 2nd time this season (their first win over Nicholas County came on December 13.) The bad news is those are the Thoroughbreds only two victories of the year. They play Bourbon County in the 2A Section Tournament on January 9. 13. Calvary Christian (6-5) - The Cougars suffered a tough 56-53 loss to Ludlow, and then defeated Portland Christian 79-52. They play Bishop Brossart in the first round of the 10th Region All A Tournament. 14. Nicholas County (2-10) - The Bluejackets lost to Harrison County 65-58 and Bath County 89-61. January 8 at 7:30pm - Covington Catholic at Campbell County - Covington Catholic is one of the best teams in Kentucky.
  19. 1. Bourbon County (10-2) - The Colonels had a very good week in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. They defeated Madison Central 53-46, then split game with top 10 caliber teams in the state, defeating Collins 60-58 and losing to Madisonville-North Hopkins 81-71. Bourbon County will face Frederick Douglass in the 3rd place game on December 30. The Colonels senior dominated team appears to be their best team in a long time. Amirion Joyce and Nakyir Joyce lead the Colonel's high flying office and pressure defense. 2. George Rogers Clark (7-3) - The Cardinals had a strong showing in the Central Bank Classic at LCA. The knocked off West Jessamine 78-74 behind Jerone Morton's 24 points. After dropping a 77-75 heartbreaker to state power McCracken County, the Cardinals bounced back with a 48-43 win over Lincoln County, who is one of the top teams in the 12th region. George Rogers Clark's three losses on the year have all come against top 25 caliber teams. 3. Bishop Brossart (9-2) - The Mustangs appear to be clicking on all cylinders, having won 8 games in a row. They won the Henry County invitational by knocking off Franklin County (71-61), Boone County (74-58), and South Oldham (67-62). South Oldham is one of the top teams in the 8th region. Carson Schirmer and Ethan Eilerman each scored 20 points in the championship game victory over South Oldham. Bishop Brossart is shooting an impressive 51% from the floor, 42% from three point land and 74% from the charity stripe. 4. Robertson County (10-2) - Robertson County seems to be slipping a bit after starting out the season so strong. The competition has heated up a bit and the Black Devils have not responded well. In the Gateway Holiday Classic they beat Christian Academy-Louisville 79-72, but then dropped games to Dixie Heights (60-58) and Covington Holy Cross. Covington Holy Cross seemed to be getting whatever shots they wanted againt the Black Devils. Robertson County has a chance to make a statement when they host George Rogers Clark on January 2. 5. Campbell County (7-5) - The Camels lost a heartbreaker to Waggner 63-62, but do move up a spot in the rankings due Montgomery's County's rough week. Dane Hegyi (19), Garrett Beiting (16) and Aydan Hamilton (15) all scored in double figures in the loss to Waggner. The Camels play district rival Bishop Brossart on January 3. 6. Montgomery County (7-4) - The Indians went only 1-2 in their own Gateway Holiday Classic tournament. They were shorthanded in a surprising 78-54 loss to Dixie Heights. They did blow out Christian Academy - Louisville 64-39 but did not look sharp in a 65-59 loss to Knott County Central. With a new coach and some new players, the Indians are still looking to gel and find their identity. 7. Mason County (5-5) - The Royals went 1-2 in the Gateway Holiday Classic. After being limited to 2 points in a 57-46 loss to Woodford County, Alex Schalch put up 20 points and 7 rebounds in a 66-62 loss to Knott County Central. Mason County then beat Christian Academy-Louisville to capture 7th place. Freshman Tyrell Henry is a promising youngster for the Royals. 8. Augusta (6-7) - The Panthers dropped all three contests in the RW Baird Holiday Hoops Classic. Losses to Mercer County (57-56) and Middlesboro (44-42) were competitive. Augusta lost to Danville by a wide margin (82-62), but Danville is one of the top teams in the 12th region. Augusta hosts Robertson County in a big 10th region matchup on January 3. 9. Scott (3-7) - The Eagles split games in the Pikeville Invitational, losing to Pikeville 78-65 and defeating Pike County Central 76-44. Grant Profitt (23 points, 7 rebounds) and Kyle Huelsman (22 points and 9 rebounds) led the way in the win over Pike County Central. The Eagles continue to rely on those two players to carry the load. 10. Pendleton County (4-6) - The Wildcats did not play last week. They maintain the #10 spot in the rankings for the third consecutive week. Tredyn Thomas is averaging 20.6 points per game. Pendleton County is only shooting 29.9% as a team from three point land. 11. Paris (3-7) - The Greyhounds schedule finally got a little easier and Paris responded by going 2-1 in the Williamstown Holiday Classic. They cruised past Burgin 75-28 and lost to Breathitt County 77-60. Ricqiece Washington put 25 points in a 76-55 victory over McCreary Central. It is going to be tough for Paris to compete in the rugged 40th district. 12. Calvary Christian (5-4) - The Cougars did not play this week, but move up a few spots due to the poor performance of some teams that were in front of them. Their only two region games have both been respectable. They dropped a 1 point game to Pendleton County way back on December 3 and played Campbell County within 15 points on December 9. 13. Nicholas County (1-8) - The Bluejackets have dropped 8 games in a row. They competed well in a 81-76 loss to Walton-Verona, but were not good in a 74-54 loss to Wolfe County. 14. Harrison County (1-10) - The Thoroughbreds continue to drop in the rankings. They went 0-3 in the Henry County Invitational, losing to South Oldham (77-48), Western Hills (83-62) and Henry County (66-61). Their only win this season came back on December 13 over Nicholas County. 15. Bracken County (4-8) - The Polar Bears dropped both games in the their holiday showcase event. Blake Reed scored 38 points (including 7 three pointers) in a narrow 75-74 loss to Wolfe County. Bracken County's cold shooting (24 of 61) doomed them in a 74-67 loss to Carroll County. 16. St. Patrick (2-7) - The Saints were blown out by Carroll County (83-59) and Walton Verona (84-44). Jaylan Rigdon led St. Patrick in scoring in both games. Key Games of the Week: December 30 Bourbon County vs Frederick Douglass (at Lex Cath) - 3rd place game January 2 George Rogers Clark at Robertson County January 3 Bishop Brossart vs Campbell County
  20. 1. Bourbon County (8-1) - The Colonels picked up a huge district road win over Montgomery County 67-62, behind a 22 point, 8 rebound, 8-8 FG shooting performance from Amirion Joyce. They moved up to the #1 spot despite a 70-67 loss at Henry Clay. The Colonels had defeated the Blue Devils just one week earlier. 2. George Rogers Clark (6-2) - The Cardinals fall a spot after losing twice last week. The first was a hard fought 71-66 loss to Ashland. Ashland may be the best team in all of eastern Kentucky, so there is no shame in losing that game. However, the Cardinals were surprising blown out by Louisville Butler 89-59. GRC did beat Paris 81-50. 3. Robertson County (9-0) - The Black Devils string of blowout victories came to an end, but they did manage to stay undefeated. Wins over Nicholas County (69-65) and struggling Breathitt County (83-73) were closer than expected. The competition finally gets stiff this week as Robertson plays in the Gateway Holiday Classic tournament at Montgomery County. Justin Becker is nearly averaging a double-double (28.3 ppg and 9.1 rpg). 4. Bishop Brossart (5-2) - The Mustangs had the week off but moved up in the rankings due to Campbell's County's poor week. Bishop Brossart will play in the Henry County Invitational after Christmas. Ethan Eilerman (19.0 ppg), Carson Schirmer (15.7 ppg), and Stephen Verst (13.6 ppg) are all averaging double figures. The Mustangs only two loses on the year have come against undefeated teams (Newport and Highlands.) 5. Montgomery County (6-3) - The Indians went 2-2 last week with both losses coming to quality teams. They fell to Bourbon County 67-62 and Marion County 60-57. Big man transfer Zach Benton was ruled eligible and played in the win over Lewis County and the loss to Marion County. Sophomore Hagan Harrison (16.6 ppg, 48% 3FG) leads the Indians. They host the Gateway Holiday Classic after Christmas. 6. Campbell County (5-4) - It was a rough week for the Camels. They only won 1 out of 4 games. They lost to Newport (70-52), Conner (60-47) and Lawrence County (64-56). Campbell County really struggled with shooting the ball in those losses. 7. Augusta (6-4) - The Panthers picked up two wins over struggling 10th region teams to solidify their place in the middle of the 10th region pack. They defeated Pendleton County 56-53 and Harrison County 65-56, before falling to the surging Highlands Bluebirds 92-67. Kason Hinson scored 18 in the win over Pendleton County. 8. Mason County (4-3) - Alex Schalch continues to lead the Royals. He had 28 points and 11 rebounds in a 85-76 victory over Bracken County. Mason County picked up a nice win 73-41 win over Fleming County. The Royals will play in the Gateway Holiday Classic in Mt. Sterling. 9. Scott (2-6) - Scott had a winless week, losing to Beechwood (99-61), Grant County (86-74), and Lexington Catholic (87-56). Cameron Patterson has given the Eagles a 3rd scoring option. He had 18 points and 10 rebounds against the mighty Lexington Catholic Knights. 10. Pendleton County (4-6) - The Wildcats lost all four games, but keep the 10th spot by default, since no other teams behind them were impressive. Pendleton showed signs of life in a competitive 56-53 road loss to Augusta. Brett Booth had 19 points and 9 rebounds in a 84-65 loss to Robertson County. 11. Nicholas County (1-6) - The Bluejackets went 0-2 last week, but were impressive in a 69-65 home loss against Robertson County. Noah Gritton scored 24 points in a 84-66 loss to Frankfort. Nicholas County plays in the Brackon County Holiday Showcase tournament after Christmas. 12. Harrison County (1-7) - The Thoroughbreds lost all three games last week. The closest was a 65-56 setback to Augusta. They play in the Henry County Invitational this week. 13. Paris (1-6)- The Greyhounds have played four of the top five teams in the 10th region and none of the games have been competitive. Caleb Johnson led the way with 18 points in a 81-50 district loss to George Rogers Clark. 14. Bracken County (4-6) - The Polar Bears picked up a couple of wins over sub-par teams. They beat Bellevue (89-68) and Villa Madonna (69-66). Bracken County was competitive in a 85-76 home loss to Mason County. Blake Reed put up 30 points against the Royals. This week they host the Bracken County Holiday Showcase. 15. Calvary Christian (5-4) - The Cougars picked up wins over Heritage Academy and Whitefield Academy and lost to two out of state teams. Cross Dugan is average 21.9 points per game and Noah Herald is averaging a double-double. 16. St. Patrick (2-5) - Jaylan Rigdon scored 22 points in a 87-60 loss to St. Joseph Central (Ohio). In a couple of weeks the Saints have an opportunity to move out of the bottom spot. They will face Bracken County on January 7 and Nicholas County on January 10. Top event of the week: Gateway Holiday Classic - December 27 - 29 at Montgomery County High School Teams: Dixie Heights Christian Academy - Louisville Robertson County Mason County Knott County Central Woodford County Montgomery County Covington Holy Cross
  21. The 40th district (George Rogers Clark, Bourbon County and Montgomery County) and the 37th district (Campbell County, Bishop Brossart and Scott) are by far the two deepest districts. Robertson County is the heavy favorite in the 38th district. The 39th district is not off to a good start. Mason County and August appear to be the favorites in that district. Tier 1 1. George Rogers Clark (5-0) - The Cardinals continue to be the class of the 10th region. They picked up a quality road victory over Madison Central 73-64 boosted by a strong second half breakout performance from Jeremiah Mundy-Lloyd. Lincoln Bush had 12 points and 16 rebounds in an easy 70-42 win over Pendleton County. Tier 2 2. Robertson County (5-0) - Justin Becker (20.3 ppg) and Sebastian Dixon (17.7 ppg, 52% 3PT) have led Robertson County to 5 blowout victories to start the season. Last week they steamrolled past Bracken County 93-57 and St. Patrick 78-33. These big wins will likely continue until the competition heats up in the Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County after Christmas. 3. Bourbon County (5-0) - It took a strong comeback to force overtime at the Fieldhouse, but the Colonels were able to come up with an unprecedented 16 point overtime victory over the struggling Mason County Royals. Newcomer Amirion Joyce helped the Colonels get past Marques Warrick and the Henry Clay Blue Devils 76-69. Bourbon County also beat cross-town rival Paris 75-31. 4. Campbell County (4-1) - The Camels wins this week were nothing to write home about. They beat Calvary Christian 71-56 and the winless Dixie Heights Colonels 70-64. They also knocked off Batesville, IN. Campbell County is off to a hot shooting start from beyond the arc. Jordan Gross (7 of 11) Garrett Beiting (16 of 27) and Aydan Hamilton (11 of 21) are all above 50% from deep. 5. Montgomery County (4-1) - Rickey Lovette's strong inside play combined with a solid backcourt has the Indians off to a good start while they continue to wait for the KHSAA to clear big man transfer Zach Benton. They are optimistic that Benton will be cleared and that he can combine with Lovette to form one of the best inside tandems in the region. Lovette had 23 points and 14 rebounds and several blocks to lead the Indians to an easy victory over district foe Paris. Then, the Indians knocked off West Jessamine 69-68 on the road. Hagan Harrison hit 4 of 6 three pointers and scored 28 points in that win. 6. Bishop Brossart (5-2) - The Mustangs had a great week, highlighted by an eyebrow raising 80-55 road victory against Beechwood. Ethan Eilerman and Carson Schirmer scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, in the big victory. Bishop Brossart capped off the week by defeating the Paris Greyhounds 81-58. The Mustangs have shot the ball better after a rough opening week. They do not have any games scheduled for this week. Tier 3 7. Scott (2-3) - The Eagles are flying high. They beat Harrison County 78-64, and then upset Mason County on the road 68-67. Grant Proffitt (22.2 ppg) and Kyle Huelsman (19.6ppg) are carrying the offensive load. They are scoring 63% of the teams points. The two players combined to make 17 of 18 free throws in the win over the Royals. The Eagles fell to the undefeated Highlands Bluebirds 85-72. 8. Mason County (2-3) - It was a roller coaster week in Maysville. Against Bourbon County, the Royals let a lead slip away and eventually ended up losing in overtime 77-61. That game showed that the Royals can compete with one of the region's best teams. However, the Royals followed that up with a loss to Scott High 68-67. They had a chance to win at the buzzer but missed. They did end the week with a 52-51 victory over winless Cooper. Alex Schalch is averaging 20.4 points per game. 9. Harrison County (1-4) - Harrison County dropped games to Grant County (70-63) and Scott (78-64), but did manage to pick up their first win of the season with a 70-51 road victory over Nicholas County. This week, Harrison County travels to Robertson County, and then has what should be a pretty even matchup at home against Augusta. 10. Augusta (4-3) - The Panthers picked up wins over St. Patrick and two out of state teams. They lost 69-53 to undefeated Raceland. Sophomore Kason Hinson is averaging 24.1 points a game. We will know a lot more about where Augusta stands in the region after this week's games against Pendleton County and Harrison County. Tier 4 11. Paris (1-4) - Last week the Greyhounds played three games against top level 10th region teams (Montgomery, Bourbon, and Bishop Brossart) and lost all three games by large margins. Guard Ricqiece Washington continues to impress. Paris is in danger of falling to 0-3 in the loaded 40th district. They visit George Rogers Clark this week. 12. Pendleton County (4-2) - The Wildcats moved up a few spots in the rankings, due to their 72-67 home victory over Nicholas County. Tredyn Thomas (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Brett Booth (15 points, 11 rebounds) led the way in the victory over the Bluejackets. The Wildcats were no match for George Rogers Clark, losing 70-42. 13. Nicholas County (1-4) - The Bluejackets did not have a good week. They lost to Pendleton County 72-67, Harrison County 70-51, and Elliott County 66-63. It was Elliott County's first win of the year. Nicholas County has a balanced attack with four players averaging at least 13 points per game. 14. Bracken County (1-5) - The Polar Bears dropped all three games last week. They did put up a good fight against Union County, losing 83-78. Blake Reed (28.2 ppg) could end up being one of the leading scorers in the state. 15. Calvary Christian (3-2) - The Cougars lost to Campbell County by a respectable 15 points and knocked off Villa Madonna 78-49. Noah Herald put up a double-double (20 points and 11 rebounds) against the Camels. 16. St. Patrick (2-4) - The Saints have dropped four straight games. They were no match for Augusta ( 63-39) or Robertson County (78-33). Games of the Week Ashland at George Rogers Clark - December 17 - Two top 15 teams in the state IMO Bourbon County at Montgomery County - December 17 - Key 40th district battle
  22. HC big man Jackson Phillips didn’t play. I assume has been hurt.
  23. Three tiers are starting to emerge. George Rogers Clark and Bourbon County appear to be fighting for supremacy and look to continue to establish themselves as co-10th region favorites. Campbell County (who lost to GRC), Robertson County, Montgomery County, Bishop Brossart, and Mason County appear to be in next tier. These teams can compete for a region title if they can make some necessary improvements. The other nine teams seem to have a lot to improve on in order to challenge the teams in tier 2. But I expect one or two of them to be able to move up into tier 2. 1. George Rogers Clark (3-0) - The Cardinals avenged last years 10th region title game loss, with a 63-48 home win over Campbell County. The Cardinals used a high pressure defense the forced 15 first half Camel turnovers, and that pressure continued in the second half. GRC also picked up easy and expected wins over Bath County and Floyd Central. Jerone Morton (25 ppg) and Jared Wellman (23 ppg) lead the way. 2. Bourbon County (2-0) - The Colonels could easily be ranked in the top spot, as they are only narrowly behind the Cardinals. They beat Fleming County 69-50 and West Jessamine 72-54. Newcomer Amirion Joyce is off to a good start. The Colonels have a lot of firepower. 3. Campbell County (1-1) - The Camels move up in the rankings due to beating Rowan County 66-64. The Vikings are considered to be one of the top 16th region teams. Jordan Gross had 26 points in that one. However, the Camels struggled with GRC's pressure in a 15 point loss to the Cardinals in Winchester. 4. Robertson County (2-0) - Dominant wins over Augusta (70-44) and Scott (93-57) propel the Black Devils up in the rankings. Star sophomore Justin Becker scored 19 against Augusta. 5. Montgomery County (2-1) - There is no shame in taking a close loss on the road to a good team, and that is exactly what happened to the Indians against Rowan County. The Indians have been without Ryle big man transfer Zach Benton, but Brandon Dyer's hot shooting has the tribe trending up from last year. 6. Bishop Brossart (1-2) - The Mustangs will need to shoot the ball better in order to challenge the top tier 10th region teams. A nice win over Harrison County (65-36) was sandwiched around lackluster losses to Newport (58-42) and Highlands (65-58). 7. Mason County (1-1) - A somewhat unexpected loss to Lewis County has the Royals tumbling a few spots in the rankings. However, the way newcomer Alex Schalch is playing, gives the Royals the potential to make some noise in the region. The Royals destroyed a re-building Frankfort team 80-31. 8. Paris (1-1) - Losing to Franklin County 69-32 was a rough way to start the season for Paris. Ricqiece Washington had 20 points, but the rest of the team combined for only 12. Paris needs to re-group quickly, or they will fall out of the top 10. 9. Harrison County (0-2) - It is not easy to replace 5 starters, but that is what Harrison is finding out. They suffered a 65-36 blowout loss to Bishop Brossart, and fell to Anderson County 52-45. 10. Augusta (1-2) - Kason Hinson scored 39 points to lead Augusta to an emotional 94-86 win over Bracken Co. The teams had not played in the regular season for 4 years. However, there must not have been much emotion left the next day, because Augusta followed that up with a loss to a subpar Sayre team. Augusta's first game was a blowout loss to Robertson County. 11. Nicholas County (1-1) - The experienced Bluejackets got off to a great start to the season by knocking off Bracken County 83-70. Dalton Davenport led the way with 25 points. Nicholas County lost to Shelby County by only 6 points. 12. Scott (0-2) - Grant Profitt scored 33 points, but Scott lost by 20 points to Boone County despite that effort. Scott then lost to Robertson County 93-57. Not the start to the year the Eagles were hoping for. 13. Bracken County (1-2) - The Polar Bears could not beat rival Augusta, despite Blake Reed scoring 44 points. They have to get better on the boards and at the charity stripe. They also lost to Nicholas County, but did manage to beat Pendleton County. 14. Pendleton County (3-1) - The Wildcats are 3-1 but have not played a challenging schedule thus far. They beat Calvary Christian on the road 64-63 but lost at home to Bracken County 76-67, thus they are ranked in between those teams. 15. Calvary Christian (2-1) - They had a chance to move up a little in the rankings, but suffered a tough 1 point setback to Pendleton County. 16. St. Patrick (2-1) - Jaylon Rigdon is averaging 28 points per game and the Saints have already doubled their win total from last year, but they still have a long way to go. Key Game to Watch This Week: Henry Clay at Bourbon County - Saturday, December 14 at 8pm Come out and watch one of the best teams in the region take on one of the best players in the state. Henry Clay senior guard Marques Warrick is one of the best players in the state. He can score from anywhere. Henry Clay is one of the top teams in the 11th region, along with Lexington Catholic, Frederick Douglas and a few others.
