  1. Any one at the game Friday night knew that Paintsville's best and only defense was its offense. Evarts ran it down our throat and made us like it. I think they just ran out of gas in the end. Paintsville did take a knee after the Evarts turnover. We could have let Pugh tie the record for most TD'd in a game but instead just took a knee. Ask Betsy Lanye and other teams we have played if the Tigers like to run up scores and you will get a big NO. Thank you for wishing us luck against Lynn Camp.

If there ever was a game that scoring 71 points was NOT "running it up", THIS was the game. What RNC said is true. Paintsville never stopped Evarts offense all night. Not only that...Evarts was scoring QUICKLY...

With all the talk of Pugh's game, I thought I'd mention something even MORE amazing. Unless I heard wrong (from the radio) the Evarts FB (# thirty-something) got around 500 of the 560 yds. rushing Evarts put on Paintsville !!! (If true, that's GOT to be some kind of record!!)

Evarts made quite an impression on me last Friday. I'll remember how well that team ran the ball a LONG time. It was a GREAT last game before their consolidation.

Though all teams must lose their final game (except one), Evarts did so showing the heart of a lion... truly the stuff of a WINNER !!

  2. Just trying to be helpful. ;)

Here is the results. Each of the last 5 years, Pburg has lost in the playoffs to the eventual champ, and each team that beat them starts with a B.

    2004 Belfry 28 Prestonsburg 12 Regionals

    2003 Belfry 27 Prestonsburg 19 2nd Round

    2002 Breathitt Co 42 Prestonsburg 24 2nd Round

    2001 Bardstown 47 Prestonsburg 16 Finals

    2000 Boyle Co 56 Prestonsburg 8 Semifinals

    thanks, "buddy"... What a guy...

    :irked:

    ;)

  3. Isn't this a little silly ??

Only 6 teams and yet, when they win the "State" Tourney, they'll have a trophy and title identical to the widely contested fastpitch champs.

I don't mind them playing the game in their own league/conference, but I think it's past time that sport should no longer be KHSAA sanctioned. OTOH, it's a shame the fast-pitch teams of those 6 schools could lose some good players that choose to play the arced-pitch version.

LOL, there are probably more high schools currently with varsity archery or bowling than slow-pitch softball...

  4. You need to read it again. I did not say they did beat P-burg, I said they may would have beat them if they had better coaching, because there was a lot of good players on that team. I was just trying to say to these Leslie fans until they get better coaching, they will not win district, or get pass the 2nd. round.

With all due respect, 33 points is a LOT to make up with "coaching"...

Maybe that particular Leslie team might have been better suited to a different system, but I don't know.

    :sssh:

  5. You can be unbalanced and win as long as you're dominating at what you do. And Breathitt also had a dominant defense as well.

And Belfry the past two years is evidence of this as well.

    Very, very well put !!

The key is having a defense that gets the ball back by NOT being consistently driven on and forces a lot of TO's....

  6. This is not directed towards anyone in particular, but I get so tired of hearing all the down talk about Belfry. Time and time again they have proven their game. They are a young starting team this year I definately agree, but what about their players that have been playing football since they were in oh say the third grade? Everyone seems to forget that at pond creek when one leaves there are always 2 or 3 ready to step up and take their place. For every position they have graduated there are more hungry players ready to step up and make a move. :fire: I think people sometimes forget that :p!!!!!!! :fight: We are ready for the fight this year! Bring it home again boys!!!!!!

Where's the "down talk" to which you refer ??

Oh, and WELCOME to BGP's !! :thumb: :thumb:

  7. No, not really, 58. Passing league games give us little or no indication of overall team strength in the fall. It's nice to do well in the passing leagues, but they are a different animal altogether from team ball.

Belfry is a PRIME example of that. They rarely show well in passing league games.

Running the football and defending against the run competently still comprises 70-80% of what it takes to win consistantly at the high school level.

  8. :thumb: I agree 72! and Ironton also! :D

From the looks of this: http://scoreboard.laser-engraving.com/scoreboard/riherds/kyfb5/?source=riherds&action=kyfb5&source=riherds&did=&tid=19799&action_name=

Ashland's going to have to wait awhile for another chance at Ironton, since they're not on the schedule. :sssh:

Instead, you'll have to settle for a chance at the Blackcats only this year... ;)
